The doctor examined Anna thoroughly, his experienced hands gentle as he checked her pulse and temperature. Alexander hovered nearby, his face tight with worry as he watched Anna's pale, shivering form.
"She has a very weak constitution," the doctor said gravely, placing his stethoscope back into his bag. "She's severely dehydrated and has caught a heavy cold. Her body is already fragile, so this has taken quite a toll on her."
Alexander nodded, his jaw clenched. He felt a pang of guilt twisting in his chest. How could he have let this happen?
"Did she eat anything at all day?" the doctor asked, glancing at him.
Alexander hesitated, then shook his head. "No. She refused to eat."
