Anna woke to the sound of footsteps and the faint rustle of activity around her. Blinking groggily, she realized two maids were busy tidying up Alexander's room. She sat up, rubbing her eyes, only to notice the way they glanced at her—curious and judgmental. Their whispers stopped abruptly as they noticed she was awake, but their looks lingered, making her shift uncomfortably.
"Good morning," she said hesitantly, her voice still groggy.
The maids exchanged a glance before one of them finally replied, "Good morning, Miss."
Anna stood, running a hand through her messy hair. "Where's Alexander?"
"He's gone to the company," one of them answered curtly, her tone lacking warmth.
Anna nodded, a twinge of disappointment settling in her chest. Without another word, she headed toward Alexander's bathroom to freshen up.
