As Alexander guided Anna upstairs, the mansion's quiet halls only amplified the tension between them. He was exhausted, his mind still replaying the events at the company, but he kept glancing at Anna. She clutched the blanket around her, her steps slow and her face downcast.
Then, the silence was broken by a loud growl. Anna froze in embarrassment as her stomach protested loudly, making her hunger undeniable.
Alexander stopped mid-step, turning to look at her with a raised brow. "You haven't eaten?"
Anna hesitated, trying to brush it off. "I'm fine," she mumbled, hoping he would drop it.
But Alexander's sharp glare cut through her attempt to dismiss it. "Answer me, Anna."
She sighed, knowing there was no escaping him. "I... I forgot," she admitted quietly.
"Forgot?" Alexander's tone sharpened, a mixture of irritation and disbelief. "How do you forget to eat? I told the maids to make sure you had dinner."
