Anna was in her room, staring at the ceiling as the shadows of the evening crept in. Her mind wandered, replaying the events of the day. Her encounter with Alexander outside still left her feeling a strange mix of anger and confusion. She shook her head, trying to push the thoughts away when there was a soft knock at her door.
A maid stepped inside, bowing slightly. "Miss Anna, Mr. Voss is waiting for you in the dining room. Dinner is ready."
Anna sighed, her stomach knotting at the thought of facing him again. Why does he want me there? she wondered. She wanted to scream at the maid but still, she knew better than to refuse. With a small nod to the maid, she rose from the bed and smoothed her dress before heading downstairs.
