Chapter 32 - I Love Him, Too.

Diane snuggled closer to Diego, while nuzzling her cheek against his chest. She knew it was morning, and she wanted to get up, but she was savoring this moment. Who knew when she was going to get a chance again? "I must be a fool." She quietly muttered to herself, while slowly opening her eyes. "You can't afford to fall in love with him, no, the price to pay is too great. I am going to leave after three months, afterall." She said, while clenching and unclenching her fists, as she sat up. "It's rather late." She said, as she glanced at the position of the sun, through the window shutters. "Diego." She said as she leaned in on him, while shaking him lightly. "Hey Diego, wake up. It's morning." She said. "Heavy." He voiced out, while frowning slightly. His cheeks were a bit flushed. Diane placed the back of her hand on them, they were a bit warm. "Diego." She called out worriedly. "Hmm?" He frowned, opening up one eye to look at her. "Are you okay?" She asked. "Headache." He muttered, a bit breathless, his voice hoarse. "Gosh, you are so warm! Don't move Diego, I will call for someone." She said, and as she closed the door, Diego's head pounded even more.

It seemed like eternity for Diego. "When is she coming back?" He sat up at last, unable to bear the persistent headaches. He got to his feet, and immediately felt a bout of nausea and dizziness. He immediately covered his mouth with his hand. It had been a while since he felt so ill. He stumbled around for some time in the corridors, having lost his sense of direction, because he was light headed, and also thirsty. "Diane, where are you?" He called out hoarsely. A door creaked open, and he whipped around, expecting to see blonde hair, but it wasn't blonde, but crimson instead. "Deggie?" Lucille, said, surprised at how frightening pale he looked. "Are you okay?" She said as she walked towards him. "I.. have you seen Diane?" He asked, while staggering about. "Not since this morning." She replied. "Hey careful! Lean on me!" He had nearly fallen, and Lucille caught him just in time. She placed one of his hands on her shoulder. 'He is too warm.' She thought. "Diego, let's go to my room for now, okay?" She said, leading him to her room.

"He is in... here?" Diane said, as she opened the door, only to be puzzled at the empty bedroom. Behind her was Leonia, Natasha, Maria, and of course, Theodore. Theodore walked into the room and looked around. "He isn't here, Diane." He said. "I told him to stay put, where could he have wandered off to?" Diane said, mentally exhausted. "The house is pretty big. Should we, check the office?" Leonia adorably asked. "I am just coming from the office." Theodore stated. "Well, I guess we have to split up." Leonia said, with a shrug of her shoulders. "The child is right." Natasha quipped in. "It is not all the time we should rely on our powers, let's do it." She said, as the five of them split up.

Meanwhile, in Lucille's room, the pale faced Diego laid on the bed, breathing laboriously, unaware of the confusion he had unintentionally created. "Deggie, you stay here, I will go inform aunt." Lucille, who was sitting by the bedside, intended to leave, but a warm hand tightly grasped hers. She looked back, only to see Diego holding her hand. "Don't leave." Diego said, gazing at her through halvened eyelids. "But aunt.." She began. "Please don't go." Diego whined like a little child. Lucille sighed. Beside her bedshelf was a little silver bell, she rang it and a maid servant walked in. "Please inform Lady Raymond that her husband Is here." She ordered. The maidservant nodded her head and quietly left the room. "Diane..." Diego muttered in his sleep. Lucille felt a pang in her heart as she tightly gripped the helms of her dress. "Even in your sleep, you still think of her."

The door soon clicked open, and Diane with the maid walked in. "Thanks so much, Lucille." She said, as she walked by Diego's side. Maybe he heard her voice, because he slowly opened his eyes. "Where were you? I was looking for you everywhere." He asked in his hoarse voice. "Mm, me too. I told you to stay in the bedroom, didn't I?" She inquired. Diego could only shut his mouth at that. "And so were we." Aunt Maria said as she walked in, along with the other four, and of course, Thaniel, with his silver haired appearance. "First things first." Thaniel said, with a click of his fingers, and everyone suddenly found themselves in Diego's room (Diego was somehow lying on his bed, by the way). "You." Diego growled weakly when he finally saw Thaniel. "What are you doing here?" He asked struggling to get up, while Diane kept him still. "Ah, ah, ah, my dear patient." Thaniel said, while smugly waving his index finger. "You should be resting right now, not moving around with such vigour." He added with a smile. "Well, I didn't know any other physician, so I called him. I didn't know you had an issue with him, Diego." Diane said, her eyes a little watery. Seeing this, Diego's gaze softened as he looked at her. "No, I don't have a problem with it." He said, while turning his face away. "That's a good boy. Now co-operate with me while I examine you." Said Thaniel, who was busy injecting him with some serum. "You.." Diego wanted to speak, but his eyelids grew heavy, and he was out before he realised it. "Don't worry, it's just a sedative." Thaniel explained awkwardly, when he saw Diane's inquisitive gaze. "So you said that he had a fever the previous morning as well?" He asked Diane. "Well, yes, I told him to rest but he didn't listen to me, because he wanted to welcome Lucille personally." Diane said, glancing at the latter. Lucille blinked innocently, of course she didn't know that Diego was ill that morning. "It seemed the fever relapsed. It had been there for quite a while, just waiting for an opportunity to reveal himself." Thaniel said, as he placed his fingers on Diego's wrist. "His pulse is a little weak. That's not good." Thaniel muttered to himself. "But he will be okay, right?" Aunt Maria asked worriedly. "Yes, as long as he takes plenty of rest." He stated. "He is a workaholic, that's just the problem." Theodore quipped in. "Then it will be your responsibility to handle his affairs, for the now." Thaniel said. "Don't worry, I will make sure he doesn't slack off." Natasha said, while shooting her brother a menacing glare. "It will be best to let him rest for now." Thaniel said as he rose up. "Let's let him rest for a while." Thaniel said, as he slowly stood up. "I will see you off." Lucille said, Albeit a little hurriedly. "Diane, watch over him." Aunt Maria said. "I will, surely." Diane said with a curt nod.

As Lucille and Thaniel slowly walked down the lonely corridors, Thaniel began to revert his appearance to that of his original self. "You could help Diane watch over him, you know- afterall, I doubt she will mind." Thaniel said, as he stretched his arms upwards towards the heavens. "You must be feeling really gratified, seeing me feel this way." Lucille said, through gritted teeth. "Heavens, no- we are friends afterall. And besides, A little bit of jealousy here would do no harm, no?" Thaniel said, seeking an affirmation. "Still, it is wrong for feel this way. He is married now, I also have to move forward too." Lucille muttered with a frown. "Come on, I know you entertained feelings for him since we were kids- anybody with eyes could tell that." Thaniel said, while waving his arms, trying to swat a fly away. "Do you think I still have a chance?,I would not want him to hate me, and I don't want to ruin my relationshipwith Diane." She asked, turning to Thaniel. "But then again, I still find myself wishing that he were mine." Now you are just contradicting yourself. And is rather too late- and I am not going to collude with you either. Just let him go. You had your chance then, but you let it slide away. Maybe he would have waited for you if you told him, he is pretty much a devoted that man." Thaniel said. "But back then, you said he admired me too. So why?" Lucille asked, tears dripping from her eyes. "Hush! Not another word from you Lucille, stop thinking like a child for goodness sake!" Thaniel said, putting a finger to her lips, his Hazel eyes looking around madly. "Admiration is not the same as love- both You and I know that! Stop indulging in such fanciful desires!" Thaniel scolded harshly. "Fine then!" Lucille screeched, yanking his hand off. "Since I am nothing more than a delusional fool- but just know I am willing to be a fool for his sake, afterall, I loved him before she did!" She said, falling to her knees. "You have endured this much, the least you can do is see it to the end." Thaniel said, calmly looking down on her. "Please, if you really Love Diego, then be willing to see him happy. But no matter what, I will suffer no harm or misfortune to come to them just know that." He said as he disappeared, amidst Lucille's sobs.
