Chapter 37 - An Unfortunate Child.

On a large and exquisite bed, Beatrice stirred. With the Sun rays continously steaming from the window, she had no other option but to get up, no matter how tired and heavy her body was feeling. Actually, she had been feeling like that for quite some time now. Dennis's side of the bed was crumpled, but he was no where to be seen. Beatrice stared at his side of the bed for some time, before sighing. She could not tell if she loved him, neither could she tell if she despised him. The only new development was that she felt indifferent lately over his ways, Dennis will still be Dennis, afterall. But she had longed stopped seeking for his attention and his favour, She could even thank the cosmos if he even did as much as spare a single glance at her. She sat up on the bed. "Gosh, my back." She muttered to herself. Her back was Really hurting a lot. But still she got up and still has her bath, regardless of how lazy she felt.

After having a rather solitary breakfast, She proceeded to move to Dennis's office. She knocked on the door. "Come in." Dennis said. After she opened the door, Dennis stared for a while, before briskly looking away. "Do you need something?" He asked, as he nonchalantly scribbled away on a document. She sat herself down on the opposite chair. "I don't need anything." She replied. "Then why are you here?" Dennis asked, while standing up to flip through some files. "I just came to see how you are doing, is that a problem?" Beatrice said. "I don't need the likes of you to check up on me." Dennis said as he sat back down and proceeded with his scribbling. "I am only doing it for formality sake, because it will be weird for me to be in this house all day, yet we won't even have a brief moment of interaction." Beatrice said coldly. "Anyway, is father around?" She asked. "The old man stepped out minutes ago." Dennis replied. "Good." Beatrice said. This whole time, neither of them made eye contact once, and the tense atmosphere in the office became solid thick. "Well then, since you are well and alive, and you are not sick or anything, then I will take my leave." Beatrice said as she stood up. But as she placed her hand on the door latch, she added. "But I have one request to ask, if it is within your power, can you please call the nurse for me? I have been feeling feverish lately, it's the least you could do afterall." She said. Dennis acted like he heard nothing. Beatrice tightened her grip on the door handle a little, before stepping out and slamming it shut.

As she walked down the Corridor, she heard Sylvester telling one of the servants something. Hearing footsteps behind him, Sylvester looked back subconsciously, thereby noticing her presence. "Good morning, Beatrice." He greeted, as he walked up to her. "I was about to see you now anyway. Did you, go to see Dennis?" He inquired, as he looked at the direction at which she came from. "I did, but there is nothing new to speak of." Beatrice said lifelessly. Sylvester felt pained when he saw her brown eyes so empty. "Why don't we go for a stroll?" He suggested.

The duo finally sat on the bench in the garden. "Do you feel better now?" Sylvester asked. "I do, thank you Sylv." Beatrice said. "Taking a walk really helps. I do it a lot whenever I need to clear my head. It takes a whole load of weight off you." He said with a smile. "Indeed it does." Beatrice agreed. Sylvester sighed, and glanced at the sky. "I really don't know why you are still with him." He said. When he looked at her, Beatrice was staring at him with wide eyes. "What? Does it really upset you whenever I bring this topic up?" He asked, after observing the change in her countenance. "I wish I could also have a answer to that. Do you know how many times I have killed Dennis in my mind?" She asked him. "I am not sure, but If I were you, possibly up to a hundred." Sylv said. "It is definitely much more than that." She replied. "Honestly speaking, I need help. I don't know if I love him or I hate him. I try to bring myself to hate him, but I just... can't." She said, her head in her hands. "Why do good things end up in the wrong hands?" Sylvester asked no one in particular. "What?" Beatrice said as she looked up at him. "Why do good things end up at the wrong hands? Beatrice, you are too good. My brother Clearly doesn't deserve you, it's like they say, you will never know what you have until it's gone." He said. "And as for you, you bother too much over unnecessary things." He declared as he turned to her. "You have become a shadow of your former self- just look how thin you have become! All because of one man? Is it really worth it?" He asked. Beatrice blinked at him. "Sometimes, I begin to ask myself of I am truly In the companionship of a child." Beatrice said, with a small smile. "Well, what do you think?" Sylvester asked, while spreading out his arms. "Anyway I.." Beatrice made a move to stand up, but the world spun and she nearly fell. Fortunately, Sylvester caught her in time. "Are you alright?" He asked, as he made her to sit. "I am fine, Sylv." Beatrice said, as she supported her head with one of her hands. "I have just been feeling a little sick lately, that's all." She said. "A little sick?" Sylvester asked. "You call this a little sick?!" He said, getting angry. "You could have informed me about how you were feeling, at the very least!" He said. "Sylvester, please lower your voice." Beatrice grunted. "I informed him at least.. So please." Beatrice broke off midway. She knew Sylvester was concerned about her and all of that, but her stomach felt queasy right now, she was scared she might throw up and make a mess of things .Just as Sylvester was about to continue berating Beatrice, a maid came and interrupted them, Bowing to them both. "My lady, the physician is here." She said. "Thank you. You may take your leave. Invite her to my room." Beatrice weakly replied. Sylvester's eyes were busy shooting daggers at her. "Sylv, I am sorry but I will have to trouble you for some time."

Beatrice, who had her arm around Sylvester's shoulder, and Sylvester, who was had surpassed her height, hobbled around before finally getting to her room. The physician greeted them respectfully when she saw them. Sylvester nodded. "It's been quite a while, Anna Vorismack." He said( she used to be Morris's physician). "Dear, you look quite pale. How about you lie on the bed while I examine you?" Anna suggested.

After checking Beatrice's pulse and heartbeat, Anna proceeded to lightly feel Beatrice's tummy. "Nothing serious, I hope?" Sylvester who was standing close to Anna, asked, why cursing at his brother internally for not being present at such a dire situation. "No, but I do have good news." Anna said with a smile, as she looked at Beatrice, and then at Sylvester. "Congratulations, she Is expecting." Anna dropped the bombshell. The room immediately got stunned into silence. "Are you sure?" Beatrice asked with a wavering voice. "Yes, you also had all the signs so.." Anna said confused. Beatrice's reaction was unexpected. She should be happy, right? "Anna, could you excuse us for some time?" Sylvester asked. "No problem." She said, as she headed towards the door. "I shall see you off soon." He added.

"What am I going to do?" Beatrice sobbed, covering her face with both hands as she sat up and cried, while Sylvester watched her. "Even with the contraceptives..." "The Contraceptives never guaranteed anything." Sylvester cut in. "What?" Beatrice asked, looking at him with tear streaken eyes. "I don't understand why you are acting like someone died. Do you not want this child?" He added. "I do Sylv, I really do, it is just that if Dennis finds out..." Her voice broke half way. "And what If he finds out?" Sylvester inquired. "He won't accept it. And even if he turns a blind eye to it- please, I don't want to bring this child to a world where he would neither be appreciated or loved.. Honestly, I don't know what to do anymore." She sobbed, obviously conflicted. "And what about me?" Sylvester asked. "I am here right? I will take care of the child, so no need to worry. I will handle things." Sylvester said. "No harm will come to this child, if I can help it!" making Beatrice break into tears again.
