Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Did You Have To Hurt Me so?

Meanwhile upstairs, Diego had harshly smashed Diane's back to the wall, making her to wince in pain. His hand, which was bleeding because of the force he had used to smash the wall, left a bloody smear on it. "The least you could have done was to hear me out." Diane said, looking up at the man who has pinned her to the wall. "What is there to hear?" He asked. "You cut ties with your family, didn't you? He said, nearly growling. "So why should you care if they live or die?" He asked. "Not everyone is as selfish as you, Diego Raymond!" She spat out in a seething rage. "Selfish? I am the one that is selfish?" He asked. "Who am I sacrificing my happiness for in the name of marraige?" He asked, grinding his teeth. "I am sorry that this marriage makes you unhappy, master raymond." She said. "I am not that sociable with men, and you are the only one I feel safe to, if not, I would have never come to you. " She said, turning her head away. "You are very wrong." He said, bearing down on her. "I am a very dangerous man." He said. "I can tell." Diane shot back. "You are both selfish, crazy and dangerous. But you were my best option back then. The least you could do was hear me out, but no. You just concluded." "Really now." Diego said, forcefully cupping her face with a single hand. "Should I cut off your tongue and make you dumb now? It seems like I gave you too much freedom." She said. "I won't be surprised if your family had a hand in my sister's kidnapping." He said. "Diego Raymond!" Diane screamed out. How could he just accuse her family like that?! "What?" He asked leaning down. "You know quite well how much your family hates me, and you.. just had to get married to the one who your family hates." He said. Diane began to squirm like a worm underneath his grasp. "Let go of me!" She cried out, knocking over a vase in the process. In that vase contained a bunch of roses, whose petals scattered on the ground as they fell. Diane stared at them. "I got them for you, you know." Diego admitted. "I was going to give them to you, but you ruined everything with just a moment's carelessness." He said. "Someone like you is not worthy of anyone love, not even your mother's." He stated without speaking. Tears welling up in her eyes, Diane gave Diego a strong headbutt, which stunned the man enough to make him release his grip. She then unlocked the door and ran away, leaving both him and the roses behind.

Dorothy was surprised when he heard knocking at the middle of the night. "Who could it be this late hour?" She asked surprised. She opened the door only to find a slightly disheveled Diane. "My lady?" She asked alarmed, but Diane only burst out crying, which made Dorothy to envelope her in a hug. "There, there,. You fought with the lord, Didn't you?" She asked. Diane nodded. "He didn't even let me explain myself Dorothy, h-he just." Diane broke into sobs again, while Dorothy patted her back. Ten minutes later, the blonde girl was already on the bed, still sobbing in her sleep.

Morning eventually came. Diane opened her eyes, which were a little swollen by then. Dorothy woke up, and was surprised to see Diane awke. "My lady." She asked, confused. "Why did you get up so early?" She said. "Oh, it is nothing." Diane who was sitting by the window said. "I don't just feel like sleeping anymore." She said calmly.

Some minutes later, Dorothy knocked on Diego's door. "My lord, are you awake?" She asked. "Yes, come in." Diego replied. Dorothy was surprised to see him with a slightly swollen head and bandaged arm, but she didn't ask any questions. "The lady asked me to get her clothes." She said. Diego pointed to Diane's wardrobe. "Her clothes are inside." He said. Dorothy picked out Diane's clothes for the day. "Thank you for your time." She said, closing the door behind her.

Dorothy gasped when she saw the bloody bruise on Diane's back. "My lady, how did this happen?" She exclaimed. Diane smiled weakly. "I fell down." She lied. "I will quickly get the ointment." She said. She soon got back with the medicine kit. "Is the lord aware about this?" She asked as she applied the ointment. "I don't think so." Diane said flatly. "Ouch, Dorothy, it burns." She said, wincing in pain. "My lady." Diane began. "May I ask you something?" Dorothy asked. "What is it?" Diane inquired. "Is your relationship with the lord heading south?" Diane smiled. "No, we just need some time apart." She said, but inwardly she muttered: "we never really had a relationship to begin with." "But.." Dorothy began, but Diane cut her off. "Dorothy, I don't want to talk about this anymore." She said, her tone sharp. Dorothy kept silent immediately. Diane finished dressing and headed to the main dining hall.

As she walked out, she bumped into Diego. Both of them stared at each other, not saying anything, but then, as though in sync, both proceeded to move to the dining room.

The atmosphere in the dining room was quite tense. Diego sat next to Diane according to the seating arrangement, but neither looked at the other. They didn't even spare each other a single glance. "Ahem." Theodore began,  trying to ease the atmosphere. "So, how was everyone's night?" He asked. It became so silent that you could hear a pin drop. "It was good." "It was okay." Both Diego and Diane said simultaneously. They looked at each other for a second, before turning their heads away immediately. "Are you an idiot?" Natasha, who was sitting next to her brother said. "Of all the questions you could possibly ask, it was that one that came to mind?" She stated. "Well sis, it wasn't that bad." He said. "At least they looked at each other." She said. Natasha felt like face palming. Diego suddenly got up. "I am done." He said. "But dear, you barley ate anything." Maria worriedly said. 'I have no appetite." He replied bluntly. "Theodore,  you come with me. We are going to look for leonia." He said. "But cuz, I am not even done with eating." Theodore complained. "Besides, i have other plans for..." "I don't care if you are hungry or you have other plans." Diego rudely interrupted. "If you think you are going to starve, then tell the maids to pack it up for you." He said. "Since someone thinks I am selfish, let me prove just how selfish I can be." He said glancing at Diane. He then left the dining, with Theodore whimpering behind him. "I am sorry, but I have also lost my appetite." Diane stood up and curtsied as soon. As Diego left. Regis, Maria and Natasha just exchanged glances at one  another.

Diane was just walking down the path when a pair of bright blue eyes caught her attention. She rubbed her eyes vigorously to make sure that it wasn't a trick of the light, it turned out it was not. "How have you been lately, Diane Raymond? Has your husband been fair to you lately?" Sylvester asked as a way of greeting. "Sylvester?" Diane asked, looking around to make sure that she was alone. "How did you get in?" Diane asked, running towards him. "You don't need to know that. I just came here to tell you that Brother is the one that is holding leonia captive, at the outhouse." He said. "I don't believe you." Diane bluntly replied. "Do I have any reason to slander my own family?" Sylvester asked, arching his brow. "You know how much Brother hates Raymond." He continued. "How could he stoop so low?" Diane muttered to herself. "But why are you telling me this? I mean I got married into our enemy's family, there is no reason for you to help me. I even cut ties with you." She said, a little confused. "Just because you cut ties with us doesn't stop our blood from flowing in your veins. And..." He said while looking away. "It doesn't stop you from being my sister."  Diane felt touched. "Thank..." She began, but Natasha suddenly called out to her. "Diane!" She said running towards her. Diane hurriedly glanced at the spot where Sylvester previously was, and was both relieved and surprised that he wasn't there anymore. "Diane." Natasha called out again, but she tried to catch her breath this time. "If it is about Diego, I don't want to talk about it." She said, and was about to walk away. "Wait." Natasha hurriedly called out. "It's your younger brother, it seems like he has taken ill." She said. Diane halted immediately in her tracks.

Diane hurriedly went into Morris's room, where he laid on his bed, looking quite pale. Alice and Maria sat beside him, while Dorothy was trying to lower his body temperature with a wet towel. "He had already thrown up before I came here." Dorothy explained. "It was Alice that I formed me." She continued. "Unfortunately, my magic can't heal things like this." Maria spoke up. "My father went to get the doctor, but it might take some time." Natasha said. Morris, on the other hand, suddenly opened his eyes and saw Diane. "Sister" He cried out, while Diane immediately cuddled him. "Hush, Morris." She said. "You will be fine." She told him. "We will let you two be." Maria said, dragging Natasha out with her. "Dorothy, can you give us some space too? I want to be alone with him right now."  Diane requested. "But my lady..." Dorothy began, but Diane just shot her a look. "Dorothy." Sje began. "I can take care of him, you know." She stated. "Yes, my lady." Dorothy curtsied, and took Alice by the hand. "Just do me a favor." She said. "Bring some of my clothes to Morris's room." She added. 'Of course" Dorothy replied as the door closed.
