Chapter 17 - The Medallion Reacts

In the dark of the night, a single carraige could be seen rolling by. That carraige had the logo of a ferociuus tiger engraved In it, which was baring its Canines. Theodore jumped down the carraige, exhaling loudly. Natasha soon joined him. "We will soon be there by morning." She said, patting  him on his shoulder. "I know. At least I know better than to prove her good of a brother in law I am." He said. "He is just a child." Natasha said. "Of course, he has to be cajoled from time to time." She continued. "Right. I bet he is going to be a good father someday." Theodore said. "They have barely been married for a month, and you are already talking about them having kids." Natasha said. "It is a contract marraige, with a tenure of six months. We don't even know if they will last that long." She said. "True, but anything can happen. They are only getting to know each other, afterall." Theodore said, while stretching his arms. "It would be nice if Diane could remain part of our family, though." Natasha said, while sighing. "Mm. I don't know her that much, but I can tell she is a good person. A little too naive though." Theodore agreed. A head poked out of the carraige. "What are you two bickering about? You will wake Morris up." Diego said, while alighting from the carraige. "Besides, you two should get some rest too." He added. "What about you Diego? I mean, you had a child clinging to you all day." Theodore said. "I am fine. I will keep watch. Now both of you, go." Diego said, ushering the both of them in.

***************************************************************   When Diane came through again, the room was dark. Her head was pounding. She touched the back of her head and found that some parts of her hair was stained a bright red. Leonia was bound up just like her, but she was still able to talk. "Diane!" Leonia exclaimed, when she saw that she was conscious, tears pooling out of her eyes. "I am sorry, it's all my fault, I should have listened." Leonia began. "Hush." Diane said. "Everything is gonna be fine.. Urgh." She winced in pain as her head gave a violent throb. "Are you okay?" Leonia called out worriedly. "Oh, I am fine, just a little dizzy and my head is throbbing." Diane said with a weak smile. "That man hit you so hard." Leonia said. "But where is brother, is he here?" Leonia asked. "I didn't tell him about it." Diane said, smiling awkwardly. "But why?!" Leonia suddenly exclaimed. "Because he Is a meanie" Diane said. She could feel herself getting weaker. "That is a stupid reason." Leonia said bluntly. "Well, I didn't feel like facing him.. at that time." Diane admitted. "Leonia, no one is trying to steal your brother away from you okay?" Diane told her. Leonia blushed. "Forgive me, I was being childish back then." Leonia said. "It is okay to be childish, you are still a child afterall." Diane said. "Besides, you have only known Diego for some time, he was like your mother, your father... So I understand how you feel. I just hope the relationship between you two doesn't get tense later." She said. Leonia stared at her blankly. "That man, is he really your brother?" She asked. Diane nodded. "And he hates Diego to the marrow of his bones." Diane said. "I could use my magic to get us out, though." Leonia said, after pondering for some time. "Don't." Diane said sternly. "Your brother is smart. Trust him. He would get us out of here soon." Diane said. Leonia then spoke after some time, but Diane couldn't hear what she said. There was a horrible ringing in her ears, and she only saw Leonia's worried look before blacking out again.

"Did they really have to hit her that hard?" Beatrice stated as soon as they got out of the outhouse, their lackeys following them. "Who gave you permission to speak?" Dennis said, not even turning his head to look at his wife. "Sister-in-law is right, brother." Sylvester quipped in. "What if they gave her a fatal injury?" Dennis smirked. "You are quite fond of your sister-in-law, aren't you." He said as he halted in his steps, turning to face his brother. "And what if I am?" Sylvester asked, crossing his arms, glaring back at Dennis. "Fine then. Support her all you want. It won't change anything." Dennis said, breaking the stare. "It was Diane's choice anyway. She fell for him of all men, so she will suffer with him too." Dennis said. They all believed the notion that Diego and Diane were lovers, afterall. Beatrice bit her lips. "Diego will come for her soon. I will see what you will do by then." She blurted out suddenly. "True. Let's see if he really loves Diane or not." He said nonchalantly. "Even if they don't love each other, Diego will still come to rescue her." Sylvester said, interrupting his brother. "You haven't forgotten about the times that father pretended to be affectionate to mother, did you?" He asked his brother, automatically wiping off the smirk that was about to form on Dennis's lips. "Tsk." Dennis clicked his tongue. "I will deal with you later." Dennis said, as he glared at Beatrice from the corner of his eyes. He then stomped angrily away, leaving Beatrice and Sylvester behind. "Gosh, he really does take after father In some ways." Sylvester sighed, looking at his brother's figure, growing further and further away. "Beatrice, let's make sure he doesn't... Beatrice?" He looked at his sister-in-law alarmed, to see the tears dropping from her face. "H-hey, are you okay? He didn't hurt you, did he?" Sylvester asked, obviously worried about her. Beatrice felt a little touched. Apart from this child, no one ever genuinely cared for her in the family. "I am fine, sylv." Beatrice replied, wiping the tears if her eyes. "I just feel conflicted. I don't know if I should side with Diane or Dennis." She said. "You still love him, don't you?" Sylvester said. Beatrice turned to him in shock, only to be met with those captivating blue eyes of his. Those eyes... that seemed to know everything despite being on the body of a teenager. Come to think about it, she did hear the maids and servants say that Sylvester bore quite the striking resemblance to the patriarch of the family. Could he possess the 'Ancestor's Blessing?' "Answer me, Beatrice." His voice snapped her out of her thoughts. Beatrice faked a smile. "Don't be silly Sylv, why would I.." "Because of you don't, you would have left a long time ago. Do you think I don't know what my brother does to you?" He asked, albeit angrily. Beatrice pupils constricted. "How do you know that? That..." She began "I have my ways." Sylvester cut her off. Beatrice frowned as the grip on her dress tightened. "I hate him. I utterly despise him." She said, looking down. "But I can't bare to leave his side either. The thought of being away from him, wrenches my heart. And I hate my self for that, too.." She said as she tried to suppress a sob. "Everytime I see him suffer, I.." She began, but she suddenly found herself enveloped in a hug. Sylvester was quite tall for his age, even A little taller then she. "My foolish brother doesn't know how lucky he is to have someone like you."Sylvester said softly, as her body became less tense and she relaxed against him. "Thank you, sylv." Beatrice muttered softly. "You might be a child, but you sure think like an adult." She said, as Sylvester released her. "That is because I am one." Sylvester said with a smirk. "Let's go." Beatrice said, suddenly taking him by the hand, startling him. "Before that foolish brother of yours does something crazy again." Sylvester smiled, as the duo walked into the mansion.

Diego was as swift as the wind. He had nearly lost track of how many men he cut down. He was already pointing the blade of his sword to one of the guards at the outhouse. "My wife. Tell me where she is." He demanded, his voice nearly sounding like a growl. "I-I have no idea what you mean sir." The knight responded. Diego frowned slightly. This man.. was definitely at the 'wedding procession.' "Don't play dumb with me." Diego said sternly, as he tightened the grip on his sword, causing a trickle of blood to slip down the man's neck. " You better tell me where she is, or.." He paused when he felt the medallion he wore most of the time vibrating. He brought it out, and it lit up the room faintly. He remembered that he didn't give Diane one of these. Could it be? Sylvester hastily knocked the guard unconscious, before running down the tunnels. In the air, not quite visible to the naked eye, was a thin silver thread like substance that connected itself to the head of the medallion. The more he followed the part the thread was connected to, the thicker the thread got, and the brighter the medallion glowed. The thread dispersed without a trace when he came to the front of a door. The medallion, glowed so brightly at this point, and he could even feel it shaking. Without hesitation, he kicked down the door in front of him, only to find a pair of eyes that once belonged to a feeble, helpless baby. "Brother!" A familiar voice cried out.
