Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: An Unexpected Proposal?!

The office door of Diego slowly opened. "What a pleasure for you to come here uninvited, miss Lewis." Diego said with a sarcastic smile. Diane ignored him and sat down right away. "Do you not know any of the basic etiquette?" Diego asked, arching his brow. "Master Raymond, I have come here for official business. I know you are a busy man, and I don't want to stay In this place any longer, so please don't waste either of our time." Diane said, not looking into the man's eyes and setting her reptilian friend on the table. "Stay put." She told it. " Miss Lewis, you do not act like a noble family at all." He said when he saw the lizard lying motionless on the table. " Are you show you are not adopted? Maybe born into a family of country bumpkins?" " Being born into a family of a country bumpkin Is far better than being born into that facade of a family." She stated fixing her gaze on Diego, her eyes calm. " Well then, what can I help you with?" Diego relaxed on his chair when he saw the resolute look in her eyes, knowing quite well she won't leave so easily. "I want you to get married to me." She spoke up flatly. Diego looked at the woman sitting in front of him for a few seconds before bursting into laughter. "Miss Lewis, you are joking right." He said, regaining his usual indifferent demeanor. " I guess lord Lewis found a suitable suitor for you?" " He found me a suitable suitor , all right." She said through gritted teeth. " A bastard by the name of Cole kant."She continued. "Ah yes, the third young master of the kant family who is rumored to change mistresses every month." Diego said with his arms clasped together, looking like a seemingly holy and righteous pope. "Master Raymond, are you trying to rub salt in my wounds?" She said, her lips twitching. "No of course. But I can't help you so leave." Diego said calmly. " Oh sure, I will leave. There must be something special about the magic you are trying to protect, am I right? I guess you won't mind me publicizing it." She said. Diego's face suddenly turned dark. "You won't dare." He growled. "Oh yes I would." Diane shot back. "Well, you are welcome to try, see who believes you. It is similar to you announcing to the world that you saw a dragon at mid day today." Diego said, getting a little tense. He thought he wiped her memory, how come she remembers? " Then I won't stop. I will continue to prove that magic actually exists, even if it costs me my life." Diane said as she clenched her arms on the desk, firm and resolute. To her surprise the man sitting opposite her suddenly got up from his seat like a bolt of lightening and pinned her to the floor choking her. "You said even if it costs you your life, right?" He said, grinning like a devil, the murderous intent clear In His eyes. "You seem to forget that I have other ways to get rid of you." "Ha." Diane mocked, her voice hoarse from the strangling. "My maid already knows that your residence is the only one I planned to visit today. Whether you Try to resist it or not, you will be the main suspect and the blame will inevitably fall on you." She said, her eyes spewing out flames. The hand on her neck tensed a bit before releasing her. "Fine." Diego finally gave in as he straightened his clothes and sat back on his chair. "I will hear you out." Diane coughed slightly and got up, stretching her arms out to the table. The little lizard nimbly jumped into her palms. "You have quite a bond with that creature." Diego observed. Diane ignored him and got down to business. "All I am requesting is a contract marriage with a duration of a year. After that, we will part ways and have nothing to do with each other." Diane said. "And your family won't ask the reason why you divorced me?" Diego asked. "Who said I am returning to that family? I am running away! And I am taking my baby brother with me too." Diane said with a calm face. "Don't you think they will ask me about your whereabouts?" Diego asked, feeling an incoming headache. "That is your problem to deal with. "She said with a villainous smirk. "Okay, give me a week to think about it. You can leave."
