Diane waited patiently until nearly half-past twelve, and found herself nearly dosing off in the chair. She had called for Dorothy but she found out that Morris and Akice were fast asleep, and they had a great time playing with Leonia. Drool was nearly escaping from the corner of her lips when the bedroom door creaked open. She sprang up, quickly wiping at her mouth with the back of her hand. Diego walked in, holding a small box, where a little lizard laid, fast asleep. "You are still awake." Diego said, attracting Diane's attention, whose eyes were still fixed on the box. "Welcome back." She said, trying to regain her demeanor. Diego eyed the plates of dinner that were laid out. "Why haven't you gone to bed yet, and why haven't you had your dinner." "I was waiting for you." She said, taking away the reptilian box from his hands and laying on the bedside. Knowing that she had questions in her mind Diego told her that he saw the children playing with it, and he took it to a vet to make sure it did not play host to any viruses or parasites. "Oh.I thought that I set it free before I came here." She said, sitting on the bed. "Well, it scales seemed reluctant to part with you, so he followed you here." He said. "Scales?" Diane asked. "My sister named him that." Diego explained. "Besides, he seems smaller than the other lizards, so I won't be surprised if he was bullied around." He Continued.
After Diego took his bath, of which Diane stepped out of the room to give him privacy, they proceeded to eat their dinner, which went cold ages ago. They couldn't possibly wake the already exhausted servants at the dead of the night to warm their meal for them. "Say Ahh." Diane said, holding her spoon to diego's mouth. Diego however, crinkled his nose. "What do you think you are doing?" He asked. "There is no need for you to pretend to be a dutiful wife, we will get divorced soon anyways." He stated coldly. "They say eating like this makes couples more fond of each other." She said, a bit annoyed. "And what is wrong with me feeding you like this? I am only trying to be nice to you, so just shut up and eat!" She exclaimed, shoving the spoon into his mouth without mercy, making him to choke unexpectedly. Diane quickly handed him water. "More like you are trying to kill me." Diego said, with a smirk. Diane snorted, and didn't feed him anymore. "I am sorry for what happened to your parents." She said suddenly, making the spoon that was going to diego's mouth to freeze in mid-air. "Who told you about that?" Diego asked, somewhat angry. "Natasha did." She replied bluntly, upon seeing just reaction. "There is no need for you to be so concerned." Diego said, his eyes focused back in his plate. "Why? Because I am an outsider? Or because I will leave this family in six months?" Diane suddenly asked, forcing Diego to look up. "I never said that." Diego said calmly. "But that is what you mean." Diane said, her arms crossed. Diego was a terrible liar. Whenever he lied, he would avoid looking into that person's eyes, and Diane Realised this after all the times she spent with him. "We are not yet divorced, and I was an outsider, but now I am your wife. Whatever affects you affects me too, and it is not because I am trying to be dutiful or anything, so stop spouting nonsense please and eat!" Diane said, unexpectedly shoving another spoonful into his mouth.
After a series of violent coughs and several glasses of water, they finally finished their meal. "Can't you... be more.. gentle?" Diego asked while sucking breaths amidst sentences, his chest heaving up like of an exhausted bull. "Well, who is the one that made me mad?" She asked, not feeling sorry for him at all. "You never told me that your mother was a blonde." She said suddenly. "What is the significance of that? Because you happen to be blonde too?" He asked. "You say it like it's a bad thing!" Diane exclaimed, nearly pulling her hair out. This man was truly unbelievable!
"I only asked because I wonder if my hair color reminds you of your mother sometimes." She said after taking a deep breath. "Why would your hair color remind me of my mother? Hers is a blonde that sparkles in the sun, why yours just looks pale in it." He said, trying to annoy her. "Could you not have constructed that statement in such a sarcastic way? She asked through gritted teeth. "I would have." Diego said. "But it is more fun to see you like this." He said, while pinching Diane's cheek. Diane angrily slapped his hand away while rubbing her cheek. Then a sudden realization came to mind. "Hey, diego." She asked turning to him. "What?" He said, to show that he was listening. "Does aunt Maria's family have magic too?" She asked. "Yes. In fact there are quite a number of aristocratic families that possess magic too. Bit my family possesses the strongest type of magic." He said. Diane nearly fainted. "Why would they hide the existence of magic to the public like that?" She exclaimed. "When humans are capable of converting after material things, what make you think they wouldn't covet something like magic?" He inquired. "That is true." She said. "And that is exactly why magic nearly went extinct in the first place. It is the duty of such families that possess magic to protect it at all costs." He said. "I guess my case is a special one then." She stayed. "Do you know why I can sense magic despite not being able to use it?" She asked. "Well, my aunt's guess is that your magical power hasn't awakened fully yet, so I guess that is why." He said. "But I don't know anyone I'm my family that knows magic. That is impossible." She said with a laugh. Diego just shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe, but not entirely. Anything can happen afterall." "So, the families that have magic get married to one another as a means of protecting it? Is that true?" She asked. "Yes." Diego replied, and with a tilt of his head, suddenly said. "You are quite smart." "I don't even know if I should take that as a compliment or as an insult." She said, her brow twitching. "Take it as a compliment." Diego said, while Diane yawned. Diego glanced at the time. It was already 3am. "Let's get some sleep." He said, carrying hearing his arms, towards the bed. Diane hated to admit, but she felt quite comfortable in his arms. As soon, as he laid down on the bed, he also laid down to tuck himself in too, but he was stopped by a gasp from Diane. "What do you think you are doing?!" She exclaimed, drawing the covers closer to her chest. "Intending to sleep." Diego replied, arching his brow. "You- you go sleep over there." She said, pointing to the couch where they previously had their dinner. "Excuse me, but this Is my room. This entire mansion is in my name. If anyone wants to go to the couch, it should be you." Diego said, basically ignoring her, throwing the covers over himself and laying down to sleep immediately. "Oy!" Diane exclaimed, "oy! Get up! Don't you know that a good husband should make sacrifices for his wife?" She said, shaking Diego vigorously, who had his back turned to her. "And a good wife should not disturb her husband's sleep." Diego shot back, not even turning to face her. But Diane was persistent, and continued to rock him back and forth, until Diego, half asleep and half awake, staggering to the cupboard, got some extra pillows, and made a pseudo bridge between his side of the bed and her side. Fortunately, the bed was wide, so they both had enough space to toss and turn. "There." He began. "Now you don't have to bother about me touching you, or whatever. Now please let me sleep, I have a long day tommorrow" He said, rolling over and falling asleep. Diane pouted and wanted to say something else, but knowing that he may have a long day tomorrow, decided to let it be, and rolled over to sleep as well.
