Chapter 2 -  Chapter 2: The Struggle

Lily managed to enter the entrance of a 10-story apartment. She frantically searched for a safe place to take cover, her mind racing with thoughts of her survival and of the survival of her family, mostly that of her little sister. The sound of sirens wailed outside, mingling with the deafening downpour, intensifying her fear and desperation. The building started to decompose as the structure of the building began to crumble under the corrosive effects of the acid rain. The walls cracked and the ceilings collapsed, creating a chaotic scene of destruction. Lily's heart pounded in her chest as she realized the severity of the situation, knowing that time was running out for her and her loved ones. She runs through the building like a madwoman. She was looking for a gateway to Esacpe, but at the corner, she turned and was blocked by fallen debris. Desperate to find an alternative route, Lily scanned her surroundings for any possible openings or hidden passages. As panic set in, she noticed a narrow staircase leading upward, barely visible through the thick dust and rubble.

Little did she know, the stairs were made with polytetrafluoroethylene, also known as PTFE. PTFE is a highly durable material that withstands extreme conditions, making it the perfect choice for these stairs. With a surge of hope, the rain began to settle. Soon enough, a loud "Kaboom!" resonated, shaking the ground beneath her feet. Startled, Lily turned around to see a thick cloud of fluoroantimonic gas approaching her. Panicking, Lily quickly covered her mouth and nose, desperately searching for an escape route. She remembered a small opening in the rubble nearby and dashed towards it, praying that it would lead her to safety. This was small but large enough to enter. As Lily squeezed through the narrow opening, she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. The darkness engulfed her as she crawled deeper into the unknown, hoping that this passage would lead her to a way out of danger. Her nose was still closed as she made her way through the hole. The air inside the passage felt stale and musty, making it difficult for Lily to breathe. She pressed on, determined to find fresh air and a way to escape the imminent danger. The further she crawled, the more her senses heightened, as if every sound and smell became magnified in the darkness.

She started to get dizzy, feeling like her body was slowly shutting off. Lily's head began to spin, and she struggled to maintain her balance as the lack of fresh air took its toll. The darkness seemed to close in around her, intensifying her sense of disorientation and desperation. She decided to lay flat on the floor and wait for help, but help didn't come, at least not yet. She felt her eyes getting heavier, and her body was also getting heavier; she was now unable to move, not even a finger. As Lily's consciousness faded, a wave of panic washed over her. The realization that she was completely helpless and alone in her current state only heightened her fear. She desperately hoped that someone would find her soon, before it was too late.
