Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Turning Point

In the midst of the chaos, David's rallying cry seemed to have a profound effect on the frightened group. The atmosphere shifted as a newfound determination spread among them. With a collective nod, they decided to stand their ground and face the approaching danger head-on.

As the knocking sounds continued, growing louder and more menacing, the group quickly organized a defense strategy. They gathered whatever weapons they could find; makeshift barricades were erected, and everyone took positions along the perimeter. David, fueled by a sense of responsibility and leadership, took charge of the situation, coordinating the group's efforts and assigning tasks. With each passing moment, the fear that had initially paralyzed them began to transform into a fierce resolve. The group's unity and determination were palpable as they exchanged determined glances, ready to confront whatever awaited them on the other side of the door. David's steady voice broke through the tension, instilling confidence and reassurance in his comrades as they prepared themselves mentally for the imminent battle ahead.

Soon enough, the worm-like creature broke through the base's gate, making the rubble extra slimy. Being face-to-face with the beast, the group's hearts raced with adrenaline. They knew that this was the moment they had recently prepared for, and they couldn't afford to let fear consume them now. With weapons in hand and their minds focused, they charged forward, ready to give it everything they had.

Arthur gently placed Emily down from his back to the nearest bed in the nursing facility. Lily tagged along, wanting to continue to follow him to the battle field. Instantly, Arthur exploded, saying, "Lily, it's too dangerous. I can't risk you getting hurt. Stay here, and keep Emily safe. I promise I'll come back for both of you." After saying this, he kisses her forehead, and she blushes. Lily understood the gravity of the situation and reluctantly nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. She knew she had to trust Arthur's promise, but deep down, she couldn't shake off the fear of losing him in the upcoming battle, just like how she lost her family during the acid rain storm. With a heavy heart, she whispered, "Please be safe, Arthur. We'll be waiting for you."
