The dawn brought no amnesty. Scarlett's breath came in short gasps as she crouched behind a rusting dumpster, her heart hammering in her chest. Beside her, Nathan kept his eyes locked on Martin Lang, who stood very calm in the middle of the alley. The chaos of Grayson's men chasing them moments ago was an unsettling backdrop to Lang's sudden appearance.
"You have just five seconds to explain why you're here," Nathan demanded, his voice sharp and cutting through the tension.
Lang tilted his head, his expression unreadable.
"I'm here to help." He said his voice firm as he stared at them all one after the other.
"Help?" Scarlett whispered, her disbelief palpable. She straightened slightly, her gaze darting to the SUVs in the distance.
"Forgive me if we're not quick to trust the man Grayson calls his partner. For someone who can betray his so-called partner, how do we trust he would not do the same to us?"
