Chereads / World At The Edge (Creator’s cut) / Chapter 6 - Chapter 5: Flickers of Corruption.

Chapter 6 - Chapter 5: Flickers of Corruption.

Panel 1:

The Adventurer's Alliance building. A lively scene with adventurers bartering, laughing, and strategizing. The mission board in the center is crowded with adventurers debating over available quests.

Panel 2:

Kang Joon's party gathers near the mission board. Minsoo calmly studies the available missions while Ray smirks confidently, leaning against the wall. Amy, holding a list of supplies, appears focused.

Minsoo:

Let's go again to another E-rank dungeon at the Edge and keep things simple. We'll head out after a quick supply run.

Ray (grinning):

"Simple? Hah... The Edge always keeps things interesting."

Panel 3:

Erynn approaches, adjusting the cloth strips covering her face. Her movements are calm but guarded.

Erynn:

"I won't join today. Got private matters to handle."

Minsoo:

Fine. Handle your business. Be back tomorrow—the Edge won't wait for anyone. You know that there's never a shortage of high rank bastards searching for low level dungeons to earn extra.

Panel 4:

Erynn watches silently as they leave, her gaze lingering on their backs. She lowers her head, glancing at her trembling hand beneath the cloth before slipping into the shadows.

Panel 5 :

In a dimly lit alley, the faint stench of damp stone filled the air. Erynn pressed her back against the wall, her trembling hand glowing faintly beneath the cloth.

Erynn (whispering):

"It's... acting up again. No, not now. Damn it!"

Panel 6:

The story shifts to Kang Joon's party entering the E-rank dungeon. The eerie cavern walls are etched with glowing runes, their light pulsing faintly as if alive.

Narration Box:

The abyss leaves its mark wherever it lingers. These ancient carvings, fuelled by the abyss itself, whisper tales of a long-forgotten era.

Panel 7:

The party encounters their first wave of enemies.—Creatures corrupted by the Abyss. Wolves emerged from the shadows, their crimson eyes glowing fiercely. Their low growls echoed as they circled the party with predatory precision.

Panel 8:

Ray charges with a smirk, his blade gleaming as he cuts down a wolf mid-leap.

Ray:

"One strike's all it takes. Watch and learn, porter!"

Panel 9:

Amy raised her staff swiftly, golden light enveloping Ray. She glanced over her shoulder, her eyes darting nervously as more wolves emerged.

Amy:

"Keep your focus, Ray. Don't get reckless."

Panel 10:

Minsoo, standing in the back, observes calmly. Flames flicker at his fingertips as he incinerates a wolf attempting a sneak attack.

Ray:

This is way easier than that slimy bastard yesterday.

Minsoo :

Don't get overconfident kid.

Panel 11:

Sweat drips down Kang Joon's brow as he stumbles under the weight of supplies. His hands clench the straps tightly. His expression, a mix of frustration and determination as he watches his party members handle the combat with ease.

Kang Joon (thinking):

"They make it look so simple... while I can't even sense mana. What am I even doing here?"

Panel 12:

The group reaches the dungeon's boss chamber, where a faintly glowing core lies in the center, surrounded by remnants of Abyss energy. The core hums faintly, its glow pulsating with Abyss energy, casting shifting shadows on the walls.

Amy:

"A dungeon core..… in an E-rank dungeon? That's rare."

Minsoo (sternly):

"Don't touch it. Let's report this to the Alliance. This might not be as simple as it seems."

Panel 13:

The group cautiously examines the core, usually find in dungeons B rank and above. The runes glow brighter, their patterns twisting unnaturally as the air thickens with energy.

Narration Box:

"The abyss does not give up its secrets without a fight."

Panel 14:

The dungeon suddenly trembles as Abyss energy surges. The runes on the walls glow brighter, and new creatures begin to emerge from the shadows—an unexpected escalation.

Minsoo:

"Brace yourselves! Something's wrong."

Panel 15:

Meanwhile, the scene cuts back to Erynn in the alley. Kneeling in pain, she grits her teeth, sweat dripping from her jaw as a faint, pulsating light seeps through the cloth on her hand.

Erynn (muttering):

"It's spreading..... If I don't stop it soon... "

Panel 16:

Back in the dungeon, the team is locked in a chaotic battle. Ray is struggling against a much larger dire wolf. Amy's mana reserves are depleting, and Minsoo begins to take charge, unleashing powerful fire magic.

Ray :

Is this a D rank corrupted dire wolf. Is this their pack leader or something.

Minsoo:

"Fall back if you can't keep up! This isn't worth dying for."

Panel 17:

Kang Joon hesitates but is forced to move supplies out of the way as the creature's approach. His frustration grows as he realizes his helplessness once again.

Kang Joon (thinking):

"Is this all I'll ever be? A burden to them?"

Panel 18 :

The core begins to glow violently, the Abyss energy swirling around it. A deafening screech echoes through the dungeon, the land begin to tremble.

Ray :

What the Hell is this now.

Narration Box:

"The Abyss does not forgive. Nor does it forget."
