Chapter 22 - The Monster Tide Arrives

While Samuel had decided to seclude himself for several minutes in order to deal with the pills that he had acquired, changes suddenly occurred outside.

Those that had been keeping much over the monster tide noticed that the monster tide had begun moving.

Initially, even though the group of monsters congregated in a single place, they did not go anywhere after gathering there. But this time, they had begun moving, and their destination was obviously Reti city.

For the monster tides that were targeting other cities, they had their own areas of gathering, and all those areas were close to the city that they were targeting.

The moment that those that were keeping much noticed that the monsters had begun moving, they panicked. Still, they transmitted the information to the others, alerting them, telling them to prepare to fight.

According to the calculations made, it was only going to take slightly about 30 minutes for the monsters to arrive. Yes, the distance was quite big, considering that it was several tens of kilometers.

But considering that the monsters possessed abilities beyond ordinary animals, that distance could be easily covered. And the reason why it took slightly above 30 minutes for the monsters to be able to arrive, was simply because the monsters were moving together.

If the fastest monsters within the monster tide decided to actually use their full speed, they would be able to get to the city within less than 10 minutes. But still, they had to attack together, and the weak ones were the ones that were leading the way.

In simple terms, the weak monsters were the ones that were determining the pace at which the monster tide was approaching.

If someone closely observed the monsters that were approaching the city, they would notice something that was completely unusual about them. That was the fact that these monsters looked completely different from ordinary monsters that could be found out there.

These monsters shared one thing in common, and that was the fact that their eyes were red in color. It was as if all these monsters had lost their minds completely.

And this actually included even the three star rank monsters. One could only imagine what kind of power or ability was required in order for the three-star monsters to be affected to the extent of losing their mind like that.

The moment that the information about the approaching monster tide was delivered, every beast tamer within the city began taking action. They had already been making preparations for several days, and so, it was finally time for them to face the monster tide.

Even though they understood that the probability of them being capable of dealing with the monster tide was almost zero, they still had to go ahead and deal with it. After all, if they did not fight, what were they supposed to do?

They could not run to the other cities, considering that even those other cities were currently facing monster tides. And more than that, they would also face the wrath of the city Lord, if he somehow survived.

The alarm bells began ringing within the city. And all the citizens were immediately alerted, and being familiar with the alarm, they understood that the city was facing danger.

And it was not just any ordinary danger, but instead, it was a danger that came with a high possibility of the entire city being razed to the ground.

As expected, for those people that did not previously have the information about the approaching monster tide, or did not believe the rumors that they had heard, they began panicking.

Some people, understanding that they had very low chances of survival, began doing what they have never done before. They just wanted to fulfill their wishes.

But the moment that they began doing things that were against the law, several beast tamers that were within the city, already anticipating this, took action.

Of course, not all the beast tamers within the city had taken action, and it was just the one star rank beast tamers that had taken action.

As compared to the entire population of the city, it was clear that the beast tamers were small in number. But the threat that they possessed was something that immediately intimidated all those that had taken action to break the rules, or were thinking of it.

In fact, for those that were caught red-handed, committing crimes, they were executed immediately. That was a solid rule that had been set within all the cities, in such a way that in such a situation where the city was facing a precarious situation, those that committed crimes to cause internal strife would be immediately executed.

While the chaos within the city began subsiding, on top of the city walls, William and the other beast tamers within the city stood, looking into the distance.

They could already see a thick cloud of dust that was approaching at a fast pace. It had already been about 10 minutes since the information had been delivered, and William and the others had already made preparations, ready to face it.

Considering that the monsters that were leading the charge were one star monsters, it was clear that the one star beast tamers were going to be the ones that were going to attack first.

But they were going to receive assistance from the two star beast tamers, considering that they did not have the numerical advantage that the monsters had.

And the moment that the two star monsters would be attacking, that would be the time that the city Lord would have to intervene. It was just that this time, the number of three star rank monsters was 23. And that was definitely not something that the city Lord could deal with.

Everyone on the city wall had grim expressions as they looked into the distance. None of them had actually summoned their own monsters, but instead, they just stood there.

They waited, everyone having thoughts of their own, before finally, the monster tide approached the city.

But just after the leading monsters had reached several hundred meters away from the city, the city Lord finally spoke.

"Start the attack. Try to take down as many monsters as possible, so that we can reduce the pressure that we are going to face the moment that we have to fight them directly." Patrick instructed the person next to him.

The person next to him was none other than the other peak 2 star beast tamer. He had been promoted to the position of a temporary deputy city Lord. For the official position, that was something that was going to happen only after the monster tide.

As for the other two that had previously held that position, they were no longer holding the position, but of course, they were also on top of the wall, ready to face the monster tide.

"Yes." The man responded, as he inwardly cursed the monsters. He was wondering why they had not waited for another time in order to strike?

Why did they have to attack only when he had gotten the chance of being promoted into the position of the deputy city lord? He just hoped that a miracle would happen, which would then lead to the defeat of the monsters, and the survival of the city.

Well, he was not the only one that was having those feelings, considering that William had also been promoted, being given the position of the deputy city Lord.

Initially, William did not have the intention of being involved with the management, but he thought, why not get that position during the last moments of his life? He did not believe that they were going to survive anyway, and so, even if he took the position right now, it was not going to last for long, and he would not have to do any duties.

The man that had been instructed by Patrick immediately moved towards another side, before instructing a group of soldiers. These soldiers were just ordinary people, but they had been trained.

They were basically the ones that were in charge of maintaining law and order within the city, unless a beast tamer was involved.

The moment that they were given instructions, they began taking action. The cannons that were mounted on the city wall began firing one after the other.

Booom! Booom! Booom!

One explosion after another immediately began resounding in the air, as several monsters were blasted into pieces. It might be true that the cannons were not as powerful as compared to high ranking beast tamers, but who said that they could not deal with low ranking monsters?

All of these cannons have been created using advanced technology that integrated the energy contained within the monster cores as the power source.

They simply blasted out rays that exploded the moment that they touched anything. And, considering the amount of energy that they possessed, they were able to cause an explosion in an area as big as 10 meters diameter.

The moment that the monsters were attacked, they also began increasing their speed. Considering that the monsters did not think of anything else, other than destroying the city, they simply charged towards the city, even though they were being blasted into pieces by the cannons.

It was just that the number of cannons that the city owned was low, only eight. And, the eight were positioned in such a way that there were two on each side of the city.

As for the cannons that were positioned in the direction of the forest, they had been moved to the southern part, where the monster tide was coming from.

As explosions continued, everyone on top of the wall was slightly nervous. They just hoped, even though they understood that the possibility of the monster tide turning around and leaving was nearly impossible.

"Be prepared. The cannons cannot hold on for a long time, and they can continuously fire attacks for at most 2 minutes." Patrick suddenly shouted.
