Aveline rushed through the door of the safe house, her chest letting out her breath faster than expected as she struggled to steady her breath. Gabriel, who had been walking from and back in the room, moved toward her.
"What happened?" he demanded, stepping forward, concern written across his face.
She held up a hand, stopping him from approaching her. "Don't," she shouted, her voice shaking. "Don't act like you don't know."
Gabriel frowned, his confusion was glaring to see. "Aveline, what are you talking about?"
Her eyes were filled with anger as she pulled out the rugged note from her pocket and threw it on the table. "They mentioned your name, Gabriel," she said, her voice shaking and filled with both anger and fear. "The conspirators. They said you're a key part of their plan."
Gabriel's face hardened, and he took a slow step back. "What exactly did they say?"
