Chapter 16 - A call from home

Chin-hwa got over it rather quickly. Well, he didn't exactly get over it but with a lot on his plate, he had to pick himself up right away.

The project assignment was due Monday and if he delayed working on it, he was very sure some other factor would come to distract him.

His mom might just call and ask him to come home for the weekend, and that was the end of his chances; he knew that well.

Or his friends would call and want to work on the project together at a nearby cafe but they wouldn't end up finishing it and start having fun instead.

"This goes here, right?" He softly mumbled as he put the files he had researched together.

Two hours since he sat down to work on his project and he was nearing its completion.

"Hah," he let out a soft sigh and used his arm to wipe off the sweat hanging on his chin. "I'm almost done." He said, but at that moment, his thoughts started to drift slowly.

Of course, he didn't do it consciously. He was still working on his project too, but... He thought of Kang-woo.

An Alpha like that could have any Omega and even Betas fall head over hills for him, which led him to wonder...

"Did he date anyone while he was overseas?"

As soon as he thought out loud, he snapped out of it.

"No, it's none of my business." He said to himself and started clapping his cheeks lightly. "If he did date anyone, it's not my concern. He's a free man, a free Alpha. And right now, I just gave my friend my word that I would help hook him up with Kang-woo, so..."

He pressed his lips together. That did not sound nice coming out of his mouth. It was stiffening.

(Hm, I'm pretty sure Mrs_TNT gave me the right word and it's not stiffening, but I can't remember. Mind if you could remind me?)

Just then, his phone beeped and he looked down at it.

"Should I pick it up?" He asked himself.

There was a big possibility that his nearly finished project would come to a halt if he checked that notification, so he decided to ignore it, just for a few more minutes, though.

He hurriedly rounded up his project and then flung his hands into the air.

"Yes! I finished it." He celebrated his success and then turned to look at his phone again. It was time to see who sent him a notification. It was probably a text message, or it could be a scam text, too.

But before he did, his phone rang, cutting his thoughts off from the notification.

"Hyung?" He said as he saw the caller. He immediately picked up and an enthusiastic voice roared from the other side of the phone,

"Oh, how is my sweet, cutie patootie?" Yeah, that was his Hyung. Sun Deok-Ryu. "I just want to hear your beautiful voice."

"Nice of you to call, Hyung." Chin-hwa said while smiling. " And I missed you too."

"Awn," Deok-Ryu at the other side had his eyes battered with teardrops, and he turned to Si-woo. "Si-Si, did you hear that? Our little one says he misses me too."

Si-woo, being Deok-Ryu's twin, shared similar preferences as well as 'behaviours'.

She cleared her throat and snatched the phone from Deok-Ryu.

"Ahem, Hwa," she said, hiding her flushed expression behind her mature and nearly masculine stance.

"Noona, how are you?" Chin-hwa asked quite cheerfully. "Don't tell Hyung but I missed you more."

This made Si-woo gloat, throwing her head in pride and her heart beating warmly.

"Of course," she said, steam shooting out of her nostrils. "You can count on me."

Chin-hwa laughed.

He knew very well how to flatter his older siblings, and they very much liked it when he said words like, 'You're the best', 'I missed you more,' or 'I love you more.'

Since they were twins, they often competed for who would get the attention and affection of their cute younger brother more.

"So, why did you call all of a sudden?" Chin-hwa asked, rubbing the back of his neck. He had a feeling he already knew but instead of jumping to conclusions and starting what he could not finish, he decided to ask.

"Oh, Mom wants you to come home for dinner today." Si-woo said. "And we also want to see you, Little Hwa. We weren't in town the last time you came home for dinner so it's been over a month now."

Chin-hwa could tell there was a bit of struggle in the background. Deok-Ryu was trying to get the phone from Si-woo but Si-woo was trying her best to keep him away.

She wouldn't admit defeat this time around.

"Hm, sure." Chin-hwa said, resting his back on his chair. Well, he did expect them to say that but it turned out to be the case. "I'll head over before 5," he said but Deok-Ryu snatched the phone and asked,

"Why 5? Why can't you decide to come now?" He asked. "I want to see you already."

"Well," Chin-hwa darted his eyes. If he told them he wanted to do his laundry first, then they would definitely flip and ask him to just pack them in a bag and carry them home so they could do it for him.

They were so overprotective. Brother complex at its max right there.

And even if he went ahead to give an excuse that he wanted to sleep a bit first, sure, they would just tell him to sleep once he got him, as if that would ever happen, since they would be waiting to badger him.

"Well, I'm not done with my assignment." Chin-hwa said. "And I can't leave it undone for much longer, so I can't leave yet."

Hearing that, they had no choice but to admit defeat.

"Oh, alright." Deok-Ryu said, quite disappointed but he cheered up right away as Chin-hwa let out a suggestion.

"Why don't you come pick me up by five?" He asked and their eyes lit up. "Is that alright?"

"Yes!"
