A few weeks later
______
✓ Kiergan
The past weeks have been the most challenging in my life.
After my parents had found out that I was now a werewolf due to my revelation which they termed ridiculous, they'd not been the same.
It was as though the situation grew them apart even more. Like it tore and trashed all of the patches still holding my family together.
I was now always alone. Alone with my nightmare.
Everyone seemed to be avoiding me one way or another. It was as though I had become nothing less than a plague.
When the situation had reached more than what my mom could handle, she packed most of her belongings and left for her sister's place.
Dad goes days without coming home, and Nizhoni mostly stays back at her friend's place, and when she isn't, she locks her door, while blaring really loud music.
My wolf whom I had come to accept after much struggle, sometimes had been helpful, talking to me and making me feel less bored, but it sometimes was really annoying and frustrating like it had been since the beginning of this present day.
"Kiergan, wait!" Thane called, running towards me, cutting through my thoughts as I dragged my slump self to the school gate.
My eyes darted around as I stopped, looking for possible escape routes, but there were none. I faked a smile as he approached me and pulled me into a huge hug.
"What's up, gee?! You've been away for a while, what's been up?"
I was surprised. I thought the first few words that would leave his mouth was the question about the fire, and why there was no scar on me.
But, he didn't. Why? Has he forgotten about it so quickly?
I had also noticed that no one who was at the camp party that day had asked me about the fire. They all just wondered why I hadn't been in school for a while.
I stared at Thane while his mouth moved, but I couldn't hear anything. He waved his hands in front of my face, and I blinked.
"Kiergan!"
"If you don't speak to him now, he will think you've gone stupid." My wolf said.
"Shut up!"
"What?!" Thane asked, surprised at my outburst.
"Um... erm... sorry." I scratched my head, and said absentmindedly. "It was my wolf. He's been really a pain in the ass lately."
"Wolf?!"
"What?" The realization sent a quick chill down my spine. "Damn! Erm..." My cheeks burned crimson as I chuckled awkwardly. "What have you been up to lately?!"
Thane looked at me like someone looking at a really crazy person, yet knowing they are not, but maybe they will soon be.
Then, he cleared his throat, and started walking towards the gate. "The coach has decided to bench you for the whole semester. And, you know what happens after that."
"What?! He knows basketball is my life!"
If the coach decides to bench you, forget about ever playing in the basketball club again.
My hope to get to Harvard would be dashed and I didn't want that. I knew that I wouldn't be able to get there with my CGPA, so I had joined the basketball team.
But, what now? Be cut off?
While my thoughts went on a rampage, my wolf began to jump in my head. "What?!"
"What?!" Thane shouted again.
"Oh, sorry! I wasn't speaking to you, Thane."
"You scared me! Again! Are you sure you're okay?! You're acting weirder than usual!"
My emerging words got stuck in my craws, as my searching eyes stopped on Joanne Marshall, stepping out of a corner and walking towards my direction.
My heart pumped wildly, beating against my tightening chest, so hard I found it difficult to swallow.
I thought my heart had stopped beating for the emerald-eyed blonde, who had the body of a model, but it seemed that was not the case anymore.
We used to be friends from Kindergarten , even to our freshman year in highschool, until she started running with the star of the school, Orion Darkhunter.
I raised my hand to greet, but she walked past me like I wasn't there, and I watched her go into the arms of Orion who stood before his latest 1967 mustang car, feeling like the king he was known as.
"Hello! Back to earth again!" My wolf quipped.
I grunted and hissed.
"Are you sure you're okay?! Maybe, you need to see a Doctor?" Thane questioned, amused.
"He thinks you're crazy." My wolf chimed in.
"Just shut the h*ll up!" I growled and everyone around suddenly stopped moving and stared at me.
My eyes caught as Joanne's eyes grazed me shortly and as she bursted into laughter.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I ran out of the gate with Thane running after me. "Wait up, Kiergan! What's wrong with you?!"
Catching my raging breath on getting to the bus shelter, I sat, throwing my backpack on the seat, and buried my face in my hands, my saggy shoulders moving up and down as I cried.
Suddenly, a cutting shriek pierced through my ears, and I groaned, placing my hands tightly on my ears to block out the sound, but it didn't stop.
As it became unbearable, I sprang up to my feet, and began to pace around.
Sweat broke out of my body, and a strong smell of blood assaulted my nose.
Then, like a flash of time, I was thrown into a scene that sent multiple jerks throughout my body.
Thane was standing in the middle of the road almost getting hit by a fast approaching lorry.
"Thane!" I dashed at him, and grabbed him, and within what doesn't seem like a second, I was laying by the side of the road with him, on the ground, breathing heavily with my racing heart.
Thank goodness! I couldn't imagine not saving him!
He groaned at the impact of the fall, while I just stood up like nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, while all of these were happening, the world had frozen and time had literally stopped clicking around.
My head snapped towards Thane, and he was just on the ground groaning just as he was holding his forehead. Why was he not frozen too?
Then, I raised my hand and touched the air, suddenly the frozen world began to move again.
Taking in a deep shaky breath, not sure what to make of the short occurrence, I held out my hands to help Thane up, but he pushed them away and stood up, dusting his trousers.
"You saw the wolf, didn't you?"
"What?!" I asked, not sure what he was talking about.
"I know that you were bitten by a werewolf!"
My heart beat a quick beat and my eyes flew widely open.
