Chapter 6 - Mind Link.

✓ Kiergan

"I'm so ru*ned" I cussed softly in my mind, but I dare not say it out loud.

"Why did you just say that?" Thane asked, his brows furrowed, while I was struck with wondering what he was talking about.

"What do you mean? I never said a word."

What is he going on about now? I'd not recovered from the earlier embarrassment, and I just wanted to be left alone.

"You just said that you're ruined, didn't you? Why did you say that?"

My heart skipped a quick beat and my brows arched up in opposite directions. "How'd you know that?!"

Can he also read minds now?

"I heard you say it too." Joanna added softly, playing with her iPad that she had just brought out of her pink backpack.

"What? How so? The damn statement was made in my mind, how come you guys heard it?" I couldn't say that we were outrightly lying since Thane stated what I had actually thought word for word.

I was about to speak when someone interrupted me.

"Someone must have had something messy going on in their mind. Well, I heard it too."

I turned back to face whoever it was, although the voice was familiar enough already, but I still needed to make sure, so I wouldn't seem erratic. "Orion, are you kidding me now?! How did you hear that when you were miles away from here? Were you creeping on us?"

"I think it's called a mind link in the werewolf realm. It's like a phone call that doesn't need a cell phone, just a mind connection within the Pack. No one else can hear it, except us." Joanna said, raising her head from the iPad.

I didn't know she was still so quick to do her research.

"So, you mean y'all can read my mind now, don't you?" I combed my hand through my hair, jumped down from the grandstand, and paced around on the field. "That's so crazy, don't you think?"

I asked them, but they remained silent and focused and that was when I understood what was going on. They were trying the mind linking again.

"He's such an idiot." Thane mused.

"This is so scary, but it's so much fun." Joanna added.

"I think it's cool too."

"Y'all think this is a joke, huh?! Guys, c'mon! This doesn't make any sense!"

"But, you started it." Joanna said.

"I don't understand. The heck did I do that, huh?!"

"Someone has to push out the connection before it begins, and as it seemed you did, because we heard from your mind first." Joanna mentioned firmly, however, I squeezed my eyes shut, trying so hard to not refute her words since I loved her so much.

The absurd scene from earlier played in my head again and I shook my head, trying to push the thought out of my head.

"What's that stench coming from you?!" Joanna suddenly questioned, covering her nose.

"And, why's your heart beating so fast?" Orion added.

Okay, what are they on about now? What's all this fuss about a stench and a fast heartbeat again?

"What are you duo saying now? Y'all are pissing me off!"

"Don't shout at me! I'm not your problem!" Orion snarled, and I could argue that I saw his fangs out.

Has he forgotten we were in school?

As soon as I was about to speak, Orion's gang showed up, looking all fancy and all. It was the first friend that spoke and then my head snapped. "Orion gee, tell us fellas more about the werewolf garbage!"

"Yes, bro!" The second friend added and chuckled, while I stood there, fussing as smoke was almost coming out of my ears.

How dare he tell his friends?! This was supposed to be a secret for heaven's sake!

"Do you shift shape like lycan—" The third one began, but I interrupted him.

"Just shut the heck up you noodles!" I growled at all of them and rushed at Orion, throwing a punch on his face.

He lunged back at me and we fell to the field, rolling and throwing punches at each other's weak spots, with students already gathering, and Orion's friends cheering.

"Focus!" Joanna shouted and we both stopped immediately.

I separated from Orion adjusting and dusting dry grasses with sand from my clothes as I stopped to listen.

"What are you both doing acting like children?!"

Oh, the mind linking bull poop again! I looked around and saw everyone still staring at us, so I took on the job of telling everyone to leave, and to my surprise they scurried away almost immediately.

"Answer me, Kiergan! What is wrong with you?! When did you start resolving everything to violence?!" The look on Joanna's face made me so disappointed in myself that I turned my gaze to the ground.

"Thane, tell them what we have just heard."

"Okay, your highness." Thane couldn't be less sarcastic even inside his mind.

Joanna scoffed.

"Say the goddamn thing already!" Orion shouted.

"Dude, take a chill pill, will you?" Thane thought, and continued. "The moon goddess has given us an assignment."

"What?! How did you two know that?!"

"You'd have heard it too if you were not fighting."

I combed my hand through my hair again, and squeezed my eyes shut. I had no idea what was going on with me at that moment, but I could tell you I was acting quite weird.

"What did she say?" I asked dejectedly.

As soon as Thane began to speak, Orion's friends who were around cut into the conversation.

"Are you guys mind calling each other now, Orion?!

"Just shut up and get the heck outta here! Don't let me see your face here anymore!"

They looked at Orion, but his face wasn't also looking rather friendly, so they left, leaving behind threats.

"So, what did the moon goddess say?" I asked with my mind immediately as I returned my attention to Thane.

"We are going on a quest."

"A quest? I don't understand. What quest?"

"She didn't mention it." Joanna answered, curtly.

"How are we then supposed to go on about the quest?"

"She said to retrace our steps back to where all of these began." Joanna replied, but not with the mind link this time.

"And, where is that?" Thane questioned, but no one was ready to answer, and I could tell that we were all thinking about the same thing—

— the occurrence of that fateful day.
