The new chick that is the size of the Philippine eagle is beyond your imagination. I don't know what color this bird is or what kind of bird is in front of us now, but I only know one thing. We are dealing with no normal bird today. The color of the beak of the said creature is blue like its eyes. It has no feathers because it is a new hatch.
I blinked several times before I looked at the two men in the room with me. Jevro is currently gaping with wide eyes, while George is pale. If my suspicions are correct, my two companions think the hatchling is some kind of monster. Well, even I think the same but, why do I feel different when I stare into the eyes of the baby giant hatchling?
"Piii!!" The creature chirps again.
"Y-Yohan.. I think, its a monster." George said as he stepped behind me.
I know that George feels fear because he has seen the monster several times. And because the bird is still a baby, so far it is not a threat to us. I turned to Jevro to ask what he was thinking.
"Call me weird but, as a Malemyn, I can't feel any evil aura in this hatchling. That means, its not a monster. However, we need to know what kind of bird it is." Jevro said before I could ask. "And besides, aren't you curious why it keeps staring at you and me?" Jevro also added.
"I do. But maybe it's because we're the same Malemyn?" I answered him.
I stepped to surround the hatchling however, every step I took it also moved as if it was watching what I was doing. A few moments later, the hatchling looked at me as he tilted his head to the right and looked me in the eye.
"Haha.. I think it's asking you if what you're doing." Jevro said happily.
I was about to speak when the hatchling suddenly attacked me and pierced my arm. I felt the heat of Jevro's fire and suddenly became aggressive and ready to attack. And of course, like him, I also quickly took out two daggers in my hands to attack.
"Mommy!"
I flinched when I heard a shrill voice in the hallway. I frowned as I looked around the room. I saw that Jevro was curious about my behavior so I asked him immediately.
"Did you hear that?" I asked him.
"Heard what?" He asked me back.
I tilted my head and stared at him deeply. "I heard someone say, Mommy. Did you hear George?" I looked at George who was now huddled in the corner of the room.
George's answer to me was a series of shakes, so my frown deepened.
"What happened to your arm?" Jevro suddenly asked me so I also looked at my arm.
The part pierced by the bird is currently glowing. I also winced when I felt the slight pain in that part. In addition to that, the light on my arm gradually turned into a blue flame.. no, not just blue. The blueness of the fire is bright. After a while, the fire disappeared and what was left was the fire-shaped mark.
"Mommy, did I hurt you? Im sorry.. I just have no choice. Its the only way for you to understand me."
Again, I heard the shrill voice. Earlier I really looked for who spoke. This time, my eyes focused on the hatchling staring at me. I swallowed and blinked.
"You're the one who's talking?!" I exclaimed.
The bird jumped up and down as it spread its featherless wings. It looks so happy.
"What do you mean its talking?" Jevro asked me.
The hatchling was about to answer me when suddenly he spoke again. "Mommy, tell Daddy that I will also make a soul contract with him!"
"Daddy?! Him?!" My voice was a little high when I spoke.
Who wouldn't feel annoyed? The hatchling calls me Mommy, then it calls Jevro as its Daddy?! For Crist's sake, I'm a straight man!
"What Daddy? I don't have a child! What are you spouting?" Jevro also answered a little annoyed.
I literally grabbed my own head as I spoke weakly. "Jevro, stop asking me. Why don't you just let the hatchling bite you to form a soul contract to you too. Then you'll know what he's saying, huh?!" Every word I say has emphasis.
Before Jevro could attack me, the hatchling quickly approached him and poked him in the same part of his arm as mine. And just like what happened to me earlier, the part of Jevro's arm that was pierced by the hatchling also lit up, followed by a shiny blue flame. The flame-shaped mark also appeared on his arm.
"Hello, Daddy. Did I hurt you?" The hatchling asked, startling Jevro.
I wanted to laugh at Jevro's reaction. He turned pale and took a step back. He opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. And because of that, I couldn't stop myself from laughing. I laughed until I saw him throw a deadly glare at me.
"Sorry, I just didn't expect your reaction to be worse. Haha! By the way, come here George. Please help me remove these egg shells." I called George to hesitate to come to me. "Don't worry, it won't hurt you." I gave him security. He came closer to me and slowly removed the broken egg shells from the floor.
"Dad, Mom, Give me a name."
Jevro and I were both stunned when we heard what the hatchling said. I was about to speak when I heard Jevro chuckle. When I looked up, I saw him staring at me with a grin. I knew what that stare meant so my eyes quickly narrowed.
"Well, why don't we ask your Mommy if what a good name you can have?" Jevro answered the hatchling while still grinning and staring at me.
Obviously, he's teasing me with this baby bird. I gasped for air before shaking my head. I knew long ago, that when the egg hatches, the first creature the baby hatchling sees will be considered its parent. The only annoying thing about my situation right now is, why am I the Mommy and not Jevro?! Wait, it's still wrong. We both are men!
"Before we give you your name. Tell us first, what are you?" I seriously asked the hatchling.
Jevro's face, which earlier had been wide-eyed, now suddenly became serious and also looked at the bird. The hatchling jumped up once to face the two of us. While George remains silent while picking the egg shells.
"I'm the blueish fire ice Phoenix." The bird answered.
Phoenix, the legendary bird that now belongs to a group of myths. As everyone knows, Phoenix is a fire bird. And when we talk about fire, of course we think of Phoenix as red orange. But this bird said its an Ice fire Phoenix? I didn't know there was Ice fire?
"Blueish fire, I see.." Jevro mumbles. "But why is the egg you came from green? And one more thing, the Phoenix has not been on the surface of the world for a long time. Where did you come from?" Jevro asked to which I agreed with a nod.
"From outside the barrier. I know this because, it is natural for us to copy the knowledge of our race regarding our origin. That's all I can say Daddy. How I got here, I don't know. All I know is my origin and also my power. And about the color of the egg, according to the will of memories, Phoenix eggs can camouflage." Long answer of the bird.
Jevro and I both fell silent. Phoenix eggs can camouflage, does that mean the adult Phoenix is the same? I have many questions in my mind but I can't put them together yet. Jevro and I have to go back to the Golden Residence because we are leaving tomorrow. And of course, we can't take the hatchling with us.
"Then, is camouflage also your power?" Jevro asked.
"No but likely. I can change my appearance, Daddy. Do you wanna me do it?"
"You can? What appearance can you imitate?"
"Well, since I'm dealing with a human, I can also change my appearance like you."
While the bird was saying that, it suddenly burst into flames and changed its shape. Now, it's like a three-year-old... girl?!
"She's a girl." Jevro whispered to me that I did not notice his approach.
"Yeah.." I sparingly answered.
"Daddy, Mommy, how do I look?"
I couldn't find my own voice so I remain quiet. Jevro cleared his their before speaking.
"Cute.. But, we can't talk to you for too long right now. Sadly to tell you this but, me and your mom, ehemm... Will be leaving tomorrow. But of course, we will be back after our mission. So, could you wait for us to return?" Jevro even used his childish tones just to tell that.
The little bird, I mean, the little girl with blue eyes, blue hair and white pale skin, stare at him and me back and forth. She's maybe checking if Jevro is telling the truth. After a while, she speaks again.
"Okay, I used my power to let others understand me. But I only stay here with grandpa, George. And promise me that you'll return. Also, give me the name.."
