Chapter 23 - THE CLUE

I didn't answer his question. Instead, I turned to Alfonso and approached him to talk . I need to know something about the mixed appearance of the attacking monsters. If every country thinks that monsters are still the result of experiments made by rich experts, I have the opposite in mind.

"Sir, can I speak with you for a moment?" I asked him when I got close.

Alfonso looked at me as he nodded. "What's wrong?" He asked me.

"May I enter the room where the Mana Stone is? I just need to ask something."

The chairman of the Department frowned when he stared at me. I knew he knew who I was going to ask because he was already there when Jevro and I talked to the mysterious voice on the stone.

"Follow me." He said.

Alfonso turned his back and was about to follow me when Jevro suddenly grabbed my arm. His forehead was wrinkled while his eyes were questioning. I glance at the Gwandy who is busy healing Jevro. I can see the sweat on her forehead. It is true that it is having difficulty in what she's doing because she is not a perfect match with the number one Malemyn country.

"Finish your healing, you cannot enter the war without fully recovered." I was smiling but my eyes were teasing as I told him.

He quietly let go of my arm before turning to the Gwandy beside him. "Tell me everything you've got. I also need information before the raid." He said seriously.

I responded with a nod before I turned and followed Alfonso who was slightly away. I could feel the gaze coming from someone but I didn't turn around to find out who the owner of that look was. Finishing the mission given to me by the mysterious voice is what I have to prioritize before other people who have no connection with me.

I don't know what or who Jevro and I are up against. If the two of us rush in without knowing, it's like we've given ourselves to the enemy. Many lives have been lost in the world in just four years since the monsters invaded. Mankind's forces are lacking compared to the forces of monsters. That's my hunch.

"I will give you ten minutes to finish your conversation. If you go beyond that, I will forcefully remove you from your position. I don't want everything that happens in the department to be complicated, especially since the superiors always ask me for details." Alfonso said while opening the door to the room.

"Superiors? Why?" I frowned and asked seriously.

"I don't know either. To be honest, they weren't that interested in the Monster Department before. It's their right to receive a report twice a week. But now, they call almost every day to find out what's going on ." Alfonso let out a sigh as he spoke.

Alfonso is not the so-called highest personality in the country. He is only second because of what he calls superior. In fact, if the power and contributions are based on the whole country, Alfonso has the biggest contributions. But also because of the lack of financial support, Someone who has that money is the superior. It makes me wonder, where does the so-called superior get money if today's times are so different compared to then?

People need protection and food. Weapons are less important because of the awaken abilities of a few. Every technology invented by experts today is made of material mixed with awaken abilities. How the higher ups came up with that, no one knows. Wait a minute, if the superiors knew about the weakness of the monsters, why didn't they give the powerless people such weapons? Also, why do supplies have to be limited? Something is not right. But I don't have the ability to dig into the business of the rich.

"Don't they tell you what the information is for? Youre second to them, you hold the entire force of Malemyns and Gwandys of the entire country." I asked him while entering the room.

I feel the warm energy coming from the Mana Stone. It was as if it was waiting for my return.

"Nope, they don't say anything except to remind me that I will only focus on strengthening the forces of the entire monsters department. Other than that, the head also mentioned to me to tell him if there are any changes in the monsters' bodies."

"Changes? Why is it as if from what you said, I feel that they know that there will be a change? Dont tell me, those monsters are still from their laboratories?!" I know myself that anger can be seen in the expression on my face at that time.

"I don't know either. I don't know anything about what the superiors are doing because my attention is focused on the entire Monsters Department. At least once I was not called to the meeting of the superiors. Yohan, if what you and Jevro say about the mysterious voice is true, then be sure that you will know the hidden secret of the superiors. You two are the only ones I expect to help me." Alfonso said to me seriously and meaningfully.

I didn't answer. I remained silent until I confessed to the mana stone. So, Alfonso is actually doubting his superiors. If that's the case, Alfonso knows something that he hasn't been able to uncover even from Jevro.

"Just give us the right time. It won't take long for us to know what's really going on behind what's happening all over the world. I just hope the mysterious voice isn't playing with us. Because if it happens, I will surely do everything to find its owner and kill it with my own hands." My eyes were squinting as I spoke.

I looked at Alfonso. He's currently adjusting the monitor connected to the mana stone. It makes me wonder if I really have to stand in a specific spot just to activate the stone. I scratched my face gently before I looked up and tried to measure the height of the stone. It is two times my height and it takes four of me to hug the mana stone. Driven by curiosity, I stuck my index finger to the stone.

Surprisingly, the stone suddenly lit up. It released a blinding light the same color as my eyes. My eyes widened as suddenly the stone had images. The images are human like but the heads are of animals. Their eyes are similar to those of the monsters that the Malemyns fight against. What are those people?!

"Those are your real enemies, my child. I am sad to tell you now, the people you thought were people, are not really the people I made. And the monsters you think are monsters, are not really your enemies. For every piece of knowledge I give you, it is equivalent to the knowledge that your real fight is approaching. I gave you my eyes to see the truth, and soon enough, you will be with my pet to guide and accompany you to find those traitors. My only request is always stay in the right path and never be blinded by hatred in your heart."

"Hatred? what do you mean?" I asked the voice that was talking to me.

"Soon, you will know what I mean. My child, at this moment I want to warn you. Within the garden you have chosen to enter, there is a plant that should not be there. If you do not pull it out, it may become cause of the gradual deterioration of the beauty of your garden. Find it and kill it immediately." A mysterious voice answered as the light and the images on the stone disappeared.

It was like I was nailed to my spot when everything finally went back to normal. I heard Alfonso's voice calling my name over and over again. I also felt him approaching me.

"Hey! I've been calling you for a while now! I said, go to the spot to finish what you want to do inside." Alfonso grabbed my shoulder. "Are you okay? What happened?" He frowned when he asked me.

I looked at him before I spoke. "Didn't you see the images on the stone? How about the light?"

Alfonso stopped and stared at me seriously. He then turned to Stone before folding his arms. He looked back and forth between the stone and me several times.

"What images and what light? You're just standing here as if you've been bitten by a snake while pointing your finger at the stone. Wait, don't tell me, that voice speaks to you even if you're not standing there?" He pointed to the location where I should be standing.

"I touched the stone." I answered him sparingly.

"What?! Hey dont lie to me. If you had touched the stone, you would have been ashes by now. Because when a superior tried to touch the stone, he turned into ashes on the spot." Alfonso said to me in disbelief.

If he couldn't believe what I said, I couldn't believe what he said even more. Because of what he said, I remembered what the mysterious voice said. "The people who you thought were people, are not the people I made." A smile tugged at my lips and the smile turned into a loud laugh.

"So thats how it is.. Hahaha! Alfonso.. Believe me or not soon everything will be in place. And this stone wont kill Malemyns but monsters." I said to Alfonso while holding the stone which surprised him a lot.
