"Maid! Woman I think you've got the wrong address, there is no married man here."
"Is this not Owen's house?"
"Yes but then the Owen here is not married so madam you've got the wrong address."
"Jasmine! I thought you left, who is by the door?"
"There is a woman here claiming to be your wife."
"My wife! I don't have a wife so who is that? ADELE! What are you doing here? How did you even know I was here?"
"Owen, what is going on here? I am lost."
"Jasmine go home, I promise to explain everything later please."
I left and went back without arguing with him since he promised to explain everything later. I knew there was no way I could beat that lady when it came down to Owen picking between the two of us. He was beautiful and she looked like a model. I would have even picked her over me if I were Owen. I met Owen in the elevator the next day at work but he ignored me. I walked to his office after the department's meeting to ask why he did that.
"Owen why did you ignore me in the elevator? Don't you have some explanation to give me, who was that ugly woman that called herself your wife? Are you married?"
"You are funny Jasmine, how can you call a gorgeous lady like that ugly? Is someone getting jealous?"
"Oh, she is a beautiful lady! I don't see any beauty in her and I'm even prettier than her so why would I be jeal…"
"Shush it, Jasmine don't you have a mirror at home? What makes you more beautiful than Adele? A lady who makes a dark room shines bright and colorful. we were close to making love yesterday when you left."
"WHAT!"
I had enough of his torture and nonsense talk, I angrily left his office and shut his door from behind. I felt jealous for the first time in my life. I had a feeling, he was teasing me but his words were too real for it to be a tease. I decided to frustrate him the whole week at work giving him trouble in the department.
"Adele you need to leave my house now, I have told my parents I will never marry you so you are not staying another day. Go pack your things and leave before my girlfriend takes this to the next level."
"Owen we are engaged so why act this way?"
"Our parents engaged us when we were 12, I never engaged you. You better leave while I'm being nice."
I was late for work, I rushed to an elevator which was about to close and there he was. I could see all his 32 teeth smiling at me. I pretended he was not there and picked up my phone to try a trick to make him jealous.
"Babe, last night your lips were the best I have ever tasted in years. Making love with you was just so superb, you are the best when it comes to pleasing women in bed. Will I see you again tonight? Have a wonderful day love."
His heavy grunts were funny but I couldn't laugh out loud, he furrowed his eyebrow and gazed at me intensely. I knew there was nothing he could say. We were both scheduled for heart transplant surgery for the day.
"Owen! When did you get to my house? You need to leave, my boyfriend will be coming around."
"Jasmine I am your boyfriend so what are you talking about."
"Didn't you hear my phone in the elevator this morning, we will be having a romantic night and I don't want him to see you here."
"So you have a new boyfriend Jasmine."
"You also have a wife Owen. So it is fair."
"Jasmine, Adele is not my wife. Our parents got us engaged when we were 12 years. I was a child and I am not marrying her, not in this life or the next."
"Then what of all the nice things you said in your office the other day?"
"I was teasing you, Jasmine, I loved that you were jealous and wanted to see your reaction. You couldn't trust me so you went for another guy and made love to him."
"I didn't make love to anyone, I was just trying to make you jealous after all you said about Adele. She is beautiful so I didn't think you would choose me over her."
"Jasmine I will pick you any day anytime. Although she is more beautiful….."
"Look at it again, can't you say I'm more beautiful than her."
"No, I can't, I am a true Christian."
I punched his chest slowly and hugged him. We laughed at each other's jokes throughout the night, it was funny how we made fun of each other throughout the week. He insisted we make it public but I refused saying it was best to keep it secretive. During the day, a notice popped up saying our hospital filed for bankruptcy and that new management would take over.
We gathered at the conference hall to listen to what the new management would say, I sat at the far end to chat with Owen.
"My name is Nicolas Bance, I am the new president of this hospital"
