Chapter 56: The Unseen Enemy
Ava's POV
I lay awake, my ears straining to pick up any sound that might indicate we were being watched. Kael's words had left me on edge, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that we were being stalked.
As I listened, I began to pick up on the smallest sounds - the rustling of leaves, the snapping of twigs, the distant howling of wolves. But none of these sounds seemed out of place, and I couldn't pinpoint anything that might indicate we were being watched.
I sighed, feeling a mix of frustration and fear. What if Kael was right? What if we were being stalked by some unseen enemy?
I glanced over at Kael, who was sleeping soundly. I envied his ability to rest, but I knew I couldn't relax until I was sure we were safe.
I sat up, my eyes scanning the surrounding area. The moon was full overhead, casting an eerie glow over the landscape. I shivered, feeling a chill run down my spine.
Suddenly, I heard a faint rustling in the bushes nearby. I froze, my heart pounding in my chest. What was it?
I slowly got to my feet, my eyes fixed on the spot where I had heard the noise. Kael stirred, sensing my tension.
"What is it?" he whispered, his eyes scanning the surrounding area.
I hesitated, unsure if I had really heard anything. But then, I saw it - a pair of glowing eyes, staring back at me from the darkness.
My heart skipped a beat as I realized that we were not alone. There was something out there, watching us, waiting for its moment to strike.
