Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Jaycee sat way in the back of his lecture class. He had a notebook open and took notes silently with one hand on his lap. The teacher talked enthusiastically about the physical geography class material. She had been going on for about an hour already and was finally beginning to slow down.

Jaycee was a somewhat average kid in most regards. He certainly wasn't a great student, but he was well passing and still had a social life of his own. He was attending a college at a state school a couple hours from his house. Things were okay for him right now, but there wasn't ever much to complain about with him. But otherwise his life wasn't very eventful.

He hadn't gotten into any good friendships in college yet and the times he got to a party on campus just ended with him being dragged along by whatever group of guys had adopted him that night. Then at the end of the night he would say bye and never see them again. It was almost impressive how hard it was for him to form connections in college so far. The small town college that he attended was decently large with about 7 thousand total students.

He came from an average middle class house where he had his sister and parents. He closed the notebook slowly and shoved it back into his bag. He waited for the line leaving the lecture hall to thin before trying to leave. "Excuse me? Can you help me get my books to my next class." The professor asked Jaycee. Nodding slightly he wrapped his arms around the stack of textbooks.

He didn't have a good reason not to and he was just gonna go back to his room and finish his schoolwork anyway. She nodded thankfully to him and led the way through campus. "So how's your semester so far?" She made small conversation with the student. She taught over 100 students in Jaycees class and had mostly treated them as numbers not people. She didn't know his name or the first thing about him. In fact she didn't know she saw him before despite having taught the class for a couple months or so.

"It's ok. Nothing out of the ordinary so far." He said. His voice was gravely and straight.

"Well, enjoy ordinary. Sometimes things are better when they're monotonous. You know? Anyway we're here now if you don't mind placing those there." She said and pointed to a podium.

Jaycee set the books down and turned to leave without another word to the professor. He felt a small tug in his stomach as he crossed past the door. Suddenly he stood within a completely white space with no discernible boundaries. The whiteness felt nearly all encompassing as he floated through space swinging his arms. A few seconds, or years later he stopped moving and a figure appeared in front of him.

Time wasn't really a thing in a way and Jaycee had no idea how to tell time in this space. It didn't feel long but there was a feeling that told Jaycee he couldn't be sure. "Integration of the 101st universe is beginning. You are human." The weird figure said. It looked like a torso with no discernible features. It looked much like a futuristic and mystical mannequin torso. Jaycee felt an urge to interrupt the being but decided against it. However it paused, "Anything to say? This is the part where everyone bursts out in questions." The torso said.

He felt like its words were being spoken directly into his brain. "Oh…would that be inconvenient or anything?" Jaycee asked. This scenario seemed so bizarre that he had checked out the part of him that tries to make sense of things. Right now he's along for the ride.

"Not exactly. There's naturally time allotted for this process. There's always questions." The figure responded.

Jaycee scrunched his eyebrows in thought. "So I can ask questions?" He asked.

"Yes."

"Perfect. How much time do I have." Jaycee said. He switched modes to analysis Jaycee.

"90 minutes."

"How much of that time has passed so far."

 "72 seconds." The torso replied.

"What happens when the timer ends?"

"You begin the tutorial. Which is an introduction to your new life." The figure said.

Jaycee tapped his finger to his chin. "What are you?" He asked.

"The System. To you The System is essentially god and the lawmaker of the universe. The System is everywhere and helps the universes it has integrated." It said,

Jaycee was slightly confused but moved on. "And you said earlier there's 101 integrations?" Jaycee said.

"This is the 101st."

"What is an integration?"

"When the system decides to integrate a universe it will give strength and power to millions of planets." It said.

Jaycee was confused but assumed eventually he would learn about whatever was happening. "Now what do I do?" He asked.

"The system would pick up from where the average person interrupted it. You are human so you have a class and a profession. Professions must be discovered and offered to you. You will pick your class now." The system said. Jaycee raised an eyebrow as a bunch of floating equipment appeared in front of him. Each was bundled into small groups as golden letters appeared over each. The first one had a set of light armor with a pair of daggers and what looked like a set of small tools. This was clearly some sort of assassin class similar to any of the games he would play occasionally. Above the daggers the golden words "Light Warrior" floated.

Jaycee turned to the next option called Medium Warrior. A sword shield and set of armor floated there. Obviously the default damage dealing class, nothing interesting. Next there was Heavy Warrior which wielded a big heavy double handed sword and a large shield. The tank obviously.

Then there was the archer and the healer. Jaycee would never be a healer as it was way too much responsibility. The healer had a staff of wood that radiated a slight green light. The archer had a bow, quiver, and dagger. The archer class was Jaycee's second choice but he ended up landing on the caster class. It held a simple robe and a wooden staff.

Jaycee liked magic and always found it to be a more interesting class pick through his many years of gaming. It usually ended with him creating a very specific class structure around minion making. He was a big fan of necromancers, summoners and beast tamers alike. Right now things seemed similar to video games. He mentally decided to go with the caster class and a message popped up in front of him.

'Are you sure you wish to choose this class? Yes/No'.

Jaycee mentally chose yes, and he felt a flash of light come over him. He appeared in an empty room with no doors or windows. On his body he wore the soft cloth robe that came with his class. In his hand he held a simple wood staff meant for casting. He looked around and felt his body change. He was feeling stronger and faster. His thoughts moved faster and his reflexes felt more sensitive. 'Is this the integration?' Jaycee thought to himself. Suddenly a screen popped up in front of him with a bunch of notifications.

'Class gained: Caster.'

The most basic magic user class. Manipulate the mana around you to defeat your enemies. Stats per level- +2 Int, +1 Wis, +1 Will, +1 Per, +1 FP

"Skill gained Gray: Basic Mana manipulation'

Mana is a Mage's blood. Gives basic proficiency with mana. Gives small bonuses in intelligence. willpower and wisdom on any mana based activity

'Skill gained Gray: Basic Casting'

Casting is the most basic kind of mana manipulation. Gives basic knowledge and proficiency in casting.

'Skill gained Red: Mana Scan'

Sensitivity to mana is a requirement for any decent mage. Allows the user to recede into themselves and scan the surrounding environment providing insight into the mana surrounding the area.

Jaycee scrunched his nose and inspected the staff carefully. This was all cool as hell. He swung it experimentally and tried to manipulate some mana. 'I think this place is devoid of this mana.' Jaycee thought to himself. Suddenly more notifications appeared,

'Skill gained Gray: Identify'

A basic identification skill known by nearly everything. Allows the user to attempt to identify any object or creature they're focusing on.

Jaycee looked at his staff and focused on it.

Enchanted Magic Staff: Simple magic staff that strengthens the connection between the wielder and mana.

He tried to identify himself and ended up with a large screen in front of him.

Status:

Race: Human (G) - lvl 0

Class: Caster- lvl 0

Profession: N/A

Health Points: 60/60

Mana Points: 100/100

Stamina Points: 80/80

Stats

Strength: 7

Agility: 8

Endurance: 8

Vitality: 6

Toughness: 7

Wisdom: 9

Intelligence: 10

Perception: 8

Willpower:9

Free points:0

Jaycee thought deeply as he considered what all of this meant. His first thought was how he was a G human. He didn't know what that meant so he would shelve it for now. Next he looked at all of his Points. It seemed pretty obvious that his intelligence lined up directly with his mana points as the vitality does for hp. And stamina points obviously go to endurance.

All of his points went from 6-10. Assuming he wasn't an outlier it seemed people would get stats depending on their own qualities between 6-10. He was a little embarrassed himself looking at his numbers. He was pretty physically weak but 6 felt a little low. He focused on the human part to see if the ability would break it down farther.

Human (G): The lowest level of human. Humans are a balanced and common race among the multiverse. +1 to all stats every level. +1 free point every level. Can speak any language after integration.

Jaycee tilted his head curiously. All of this was so cool to him but he wasn't sure he wasn't dreaming yet. Everything felt real but it was simply very different from his life and everything felt like fiction. On his hip he had a leather satchel that inside contained 3 health and 3 mana potions. When he used Identify on them it said.

Health Potion: Drinking restores HP

Mana Potion: Drinking restores MP

Jaycee tightened the strap of the satchel and readied himself to wait the rest of the time in this intro section. More than an hour later Jaycee was rolling out his shoulder as he watched a countdown appear on the wall. 5,4,3,2,1. He felt another tug in his stomach as his surroundings turned into a blur only to refocus again. He stumbled in some grass as he got his bearings.
