Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

He grabbed Lady and threw her to the side.  Jaycee rolled to the side and pushed some debris out of the way. He exploded in mana.  The wand in his hand shot flames out like streams of water, illuminating the area. Immediately, four people were within 5 feet of the three of them.

Roaring with anger, Omari swung his large sword cleaving two of the light warriors in half.  Omari glowed with red rage energy which was an ability he had just unlocked through the large battle earlier.  Despite the missing arm he fought like a beast out of hell.

With similar, but a different style of ferocity, Jaycee manipulated flames to incinerate the two closest people. However they reacted quickly and escaped mostly unharmed.  Jaycee didn't stop for a second while he was crafting a larger scarier spell he decided to try and create.

He pointed his wand infront of him and using his other hand created a stable coating of mana around a much stronger and chaotic fire mana orb.  Finishing the creation in only a few seconds he threw the grenade like orb into a crowd of people at the other end of the room.

It looked like they had been backup just in case something went wrong. But half of them had actually gone to sleep apparently completely unaware of the plan to kill the smaller group.

But as they woke up and saw their attackers they attacked them just as hard.  Omari charged through the flames and swung his sword killing one easily.  An arrow struck him in his shoulder not stopping him from stabbing the archer in the heart.

The orb that the younger man had thrown hit the ground and sat there. Everyone paused to see what the orb would do but the lack of explosion turned to disappointment and embarrassment for Jaycee. He shrugged.  "It's a work in progress."   A moment later, just as the warriors were charging toward them, the orb exploded killing two people and taking the arm of another.

Seeing the explosion shake the building, he was scared of his own creation.  He had ended up making the fire mana more explosive in nature rather than flame based.  Jaycee and Omari clashed with the warriors in their own ways.  Jaycee relied heavily on his speed and powerful magic and Omari just blocked the most dangerous blows with his sword.

Somehow he fought even better with one arm then two and was cleaving through the other warriors. They were better than Jaycees original group, but Omari clearly understood something about combat that they didn't. Omari was stabbed in the stomach as he seperated the last medium warriors head from her shoulders.

Unphased by the wound he looked for his next opponent. And just as he raised his head to look around the large room an arrow whistled through the air propelled by the leader of this group.  Her bow exploded with power when she released the arrow. In less than a second, faster than anyone could react, her arrow slammed into Omaris neck.  He was thrown to the ground where he didn't move.

Jaycee felt a string snap somewhere.  He wasn't sure where or what just happened but he knew he felt anger.  He had formed a brief day-long relationship with the older man but they felt close somehow.

Maybe if he had taken a different turn somewhere, or actually taken control of the group, things would be different.  Maybe if he had just left, nothing would have happened. Full of rage and violence, Jaycee raised his wand and released the force of his magic.

His flames were no longer wild and unrestrained but were controlled into powerful constructs.  He mostly made spears or knives of flame but was limited to constructing only two at a time.

And at this point in the battle he was running low on mana and couldn't run much longer. He didn't care much. He would kill these people. His dreads waved wildly in the air as he dodged a mana bolt and shot a spear of hardened flames at the last mage. The spear slammed into her chest going a few inches deep before blowing up in her face.

The next spear found purchase in the chest of another person.  Now only Angela remained.  The entire time she had been saving her power up skill that made the arrow so powerful. She had not revealed herself and instead pretended to be one of the people waking up allowing her to get her sneak strike on Omari.

Her arm seemed like it at been overworked and had blue pulsing veins and a red coloring but she otherwise looked pissed and ready to fight. Jaycee could tell she was the strongest in this group of people. But she wasn't as strong as him.

She threw her bow to the side as it was useless with the state of her arm, and held a dagger in her one hand.  Smiling Jaycee threw his wand to the ground and raised his hands.  Immediately his hands ignited in flame and were moving quickly to defend himself.

She was a good combatant but nothing special. She was probably some sort of survivalist before the integration and that's what made her the best. But her fighting skills were poorly developed.  They were equally as fast, but things were not equal.

The dagger shined in the dark room as it plunged into Jaycees shoulder scraping against bone.  Smiling crazily Jaycee flexed his shoulder muscles and reached both his hands up to her face.  The flames licked her cheeks as his fingers clamped onto either side of her head.

Immediately she began screaming as the raw heat of the mana between Jaycees hands and the fire were similar to a hot grill. He grit his teeth as she tried to pull the dagger out of his shoulder to stab him in the neck but failed as she lost strength. Cranking up the heat on fire he released the last of his mana reserves blasting the women's head with flames.

When just sparks appeared around his hands he let her go.  Her body dropped to the floor her head burnt to an unrecognizable black crisp.  Jaycee glanced at the corpse and walked back to where he had thrown Lady earlier.  She sat in the corner apparently praying to something agitatedly.

Jaycee tapped the top of her head and she stood and followed him.  The second she noticed the injuries her hands would run across his body in specific circular patterns and shake her head in a rhythmic fashion. The young man crouched down and inspected the body of the only person who he felt somewhat close to this whole time.

He had been critical in his survival many times before, and he had a warrior's spirit.  He closed the man's eyes and placed the sword in his hand. Just as he was about to leave he noticed a coin looking object in the man's armor right where it met his neck.  Grabbing it and identifying it Jaycee read,

An Older Brothers Token: A coin that tells the direction of a passed Omaris brother.  Appeared because of a connection forged in hours.

He tucked away the token before turning to leave. There was gear and stuff for him to search bodies for, but quite frankly he didn't want to be in there anymore.  The memories were starting to stack up in this area.

With Lady at his side he took off into the dark forested night. He was deathly tired and quite frankly was going to pass out soon.  Lady was still silent and Jaycee was starting to get tired of it.  He started to talk to her like she was a journal. A part of him hoped she would tell stories of him.

He giggled to himself while thinking of the ridiculousness of his situation.  A campfire was finally set up and he layed on the grass next to it.  It seemed there were no nocturnal animals here, which didn't make much sense but he just chalked it up to the system giving them a break.

Buildings were far and few between and were more attractors of beasts than anything. Sleeping outside was the most common choice.  Technically he should still be very aware of his surroundings because of other humans, but at this point he was so exhausted that getting murdered in his sleep was better than staying awake. "So do you ever talk?"  He said eyes closed. Hearing no response he nodded, "Controversial but okay. And what's your stance on abortion?"  Finding entertainment in himself was one of his best qualities.

The funnier part was he knew she could understand him.  He didn't know why she didn't talk but it seemed to be a personal choice of hers.  Seeing her praying all the time he had chalked it to some sort of religious reason.  Maybe it was like lent or something where she gave up her ability to communicate for a closer connection to her beliefs.  "I have deep insecurities." He blurted out suddenly.

Shaking his head he smiled to himself and opened his eyes to see Lady's face curiously looking at him.  She almost didn't feel real, but like more of a doll with eyes he walked around with.  It was hard to register a person when he didn't even know her name.

But with Omaris death on his shoulders he wasn't in much of a joking mood. Normally he could've gone on making dumb jokes well into the night but now was not the time.  "Pray that we don't die tonight."  Jaycee said one more time before passing out cold.
