Sofia POV
The floodgates let loose as soon as I heard the key turn into the keyhole. Rachel had locked me inside my room. My arm was partially bleeding from the scratches I had received from her when she was dragging me down the stairs. I let my tears fell on the scratches and they began to heal.
I first discovered my tears could heal when I was thirteen years old. I strolling around the garden and Alice had decided it would be a great idea to shove my ass down the ground for no particular reason.
I still remember her annoying stupid laugh when she saw me landing on some stones. I hissed in pain and cursed her silently as she began to walk away. The tears started to flow and the landed on the scratches on my leg. Anyone would be shocked if they saw their flesh beginning to close up on its own. I couldn't believe it at first so I ran into the kitchen and took a knife. I made sure no one is around before making a small cut on my hand. I let my tear fall on the cut and it instantly closed up.
It took a while to get used to my newfound abilities as I couldn't believe God would actually bless a nobody like me with such a gift. I had always loved to read about mythical creatures and all this supernatural stuff since I was a kid. I guess deep down I believed they actually existed even though nobody had never seen them. Seeing my tears heal my wounds was the only proof I needed to know that they actually existed.
I made a promise to never cry in front of anyone in fear of what they could do if they knew my tears could heal.
I wiped off my eyes and began to think. I needed to get out from here. I stuffed the only three dresses I owned into a small bag which Alice had thrown away because, 'it wasn't her style'. I also took the two books that kept me company everyday. I looked at myself on the small piece of mirror I owned. I sniffed away the tears that were threatening to fall. This wasn't the time for crying, I told myself.
Morning came slowly that day. I laid awake through the night. I heard footsteps outside my room and I hid my bag under the bed. Rachel walked in with a bucket of water and saw me sitting on the bed.
'Oh, you are awake.' I smiled inwardly as I saw her disappointed face. She continued,
'Guess there's no need for this then.' She put the bucket besides her. I let out a sigh as I thought she was going to throw it at me anyway.
'I will go and prepare breakfast.' I got on my knees and made my way to the door before she roughly grabbed my hair.
'Dont do anything stupid today!'
'I won't.' She let go off me and I practically ran upstairs, leaving her behind.
I did my chores as fast as I could because I couldn't wait to leave this hell place.
Mr William arrived at eight o'clock sharp in the morning. I couldn't help but feel disgusted at this man. I wasn't really surprised when I found out he was three years older than Edward.
The twins came down when I started serving breakfast. They were all chatting happily like one big family, discussing me and my 'prize money', completely ignoring that I was standing right there.
'So, Mrs Bentley, as promised...' he signaled his bodyguard at the door and he brought a briefcase. '... here is your payment.'
Rachel's eyes sparkled when she saw the money. 'Thank you, Mr William. Pleasure doing business with you.'
I laughed with myself as I watched these people. They were really stupid if they thought they were going to take me alive. It was time to put my plan into motion. I started to make my way towards the stairs.
'Where are you going, Sofia?' Alice's voice made me halt. I turned around and everyone's eyes were on me.
'To get my bag,' I answered casually but I was sweating inside. 'I was bought, remember?' I turned my back and left them laughing to whatever Rachel had said.
I took my bag from under the bed and found Rachel leaning against the door. She unfolded her arms as she stared down at me. I unconsciously swallowed of saliva down my throat as she walked towards me. She stopped when she was just a feet away.
'Even though we have a lot of bad history, I hope you won't forget about us when you are rich and boujee. Here...' She opened a hand to reveal an emerald locket. '...This was left with you by your mother.'
I stared at her stupidly ad if she had grown two heads. 'But you said you didn't know my family. You said you just saw me outside an orphanage and thought I would be a good maid.' I put in my brave face and sniffed back my tears.
She let out a lazy sigh before replying,
'That's a story for another day.' What did she mean by that? Is there something she's not telling me about my family? Before I could question her she continued, 'Turn around and I will put it on you.' She turned me around herself when I remained as I was. I wasn't blind to not notice how beautiful the locket was. It had a heart shaped ruby at the centre. I was surprised she was giving me such a gift when she hadn't said anything nice to me, let alone saying.
'Why didn't you give it to me sooner?'
'Well, there's is right time for everything, and this is the right time.' This woman was confusing me more and more.
I was about to ask her when I felt a sharp piercing on my neck. I faintly heard Rachel whispering harshly in my ear.
'I will make sure you never become anything in this life. Your supid mother thought she could protect you,' My tears began to fell when I felt my hair being pulled.
'Blame your bitch of a mother for every bad thing that has happened to you!'
I was struggling to say something to her. I had so many questions to ask her but I couldn't hear my voice. My eyes were starting to feel very heavy.
'Mr William, come and take your bride.' That was the last thing I head before darkeness swallowed me.
