Chapter 5 - The Unknown Man

"W-who are you?" Maya muttered slowly.

"How do you know me?" She asked, dumbfounded. She could not place where she might have known him.

Damian Blackwood was surprised to see Maya in such a disarray state.

Seeing her husband and Sabrina standing like lost and abandoned sheep, he sensed that something was wrong, but he couldn't place his hands on what exactly it was.

Ignoring their presence, Damian stretched his hand for a handshake with Maya.

"I'm Damian Blackwood, the general."

"Oh, Damian Blackwood," Maya exclaimed softly with a faint smile.

She was completely lost on the next step to take after this excruciating discovery.

Her brain was blank.

If she can lay her hands on anything that would give her joy at the moment, aiding her to forget what had just befallen her, she would do it wholeheartedly.

"Damian Blackwood, the general accountant of Wine Choice Enterprise, right?" She asked calmly, still holding his hands after the shake.

Her calculative eyes focused a gaze on his everly young and handsome face.

His average shiny beards didn't cease to get her attention.

Frustrated and depressed, Maya's lips and tongue immediately got tangled into war with Damian's locked mouth, battling madly for dominance.

Their bodies pressed heatedly against each other, breathing heavily as their lips continually pressed together.

Damian could feel the soft tickle of her breath beneath his nose, his fingers carding through her hair.

Maya never wanted to let go of his lips, which were still sweet with milk and honey from his afternoon tea.

She had just kissed her husband's business rival!

Sabrina's countenance changed to a bitter frown as she saw how Damian passionately kissed Maya, pretending not to notice her presence or care about how she'll feel.

Not minding the heart-aching entanglement he saw his wife in, Damon continually pleaded for a chance to explain everything and gain her forgiveness.

"Maya, please! You don't have to do that before you show me how much you hate me. It is not what you think!" He sobbed softly.

Maya smirked. She took a deep breath and frowned angrily as she turned to face Damon, having a clear view of his shameless face in the pitiful tone standing beside his mistress.

She clapped her hands and burst out into a bitter, soft laugh.

"Do you really want to know what I think right now?" She said with her widened eyes and furrowed brows.

"You're fired, Damon! I don't ever want to see you step foot into this company again." She declared coldly.

Damon froze in place. He felt like he was just hit with the news of the death of the closest person to him.

"Maya! I'm still your husband!" He said softly.

The sound of that statement caused the death of the last calmness Maya had in her.

"Have you lost your mind or something? Do you still have the nerves to call yourself my husband?" She sputtered angrily.

"Hey, calm down, Mrs. Wood. You're overreacting and causing a scene; remember your reputable personality," Damian advised calmly in a very low tone while patting her back in consolation.

Seeing how fast her heart was beating, Maya took a deep breath to calm herself down before she could talk further.

"My lawyer is going to present you with the divorce papers before the day runs out.

And need I remind you, you're not getting a penny from me! Besides, everything you have was acquired with my money!" she concluded.

Damian and Sabrina remained speechless as they watched the husband-and-wife drama.

All the company's junior staff aligned themselves in one hidden corner, seeing through the window the drama that was taking place.

"Evelyn! What are you trying to do?" One of the junior staff yelled at her colleague.

"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm trying to get a short video clip from the drama, of course."

"Are you crazy? This is our boss we're talking about!"

"So what? Don't you know that it is this kind of thing that people use to trend and make money now on social media?"

"You're not serious! Give me that phone!" The staff yelled and grabbed the phone from her colleague and deleted the video immediately.

"Don't you have some pity for them? Just see how Sabrina's cloth is splattered with coffee. And you want to use someone's downfall to make your money; shame on you!"

"Damian, from today, you'll be the CEO of this company." Alexis declared sternly.

"I promise to pay you three times whatever you're earning in your current company.

Damian stood confused; he was short of words to say at the moment.

Is Maya sure of what she's saying? Is she just talking out of frustration or something?

Damian thought inwardly while he stood still, drenched in confusion.

"Damian!" Maya startled him out of his thoughts with her raising voice.

"Damian,"

She called again.

"Yeah, I'm getting you." He stammered.

"Are you still giving second thoughts about the offer? If the salary is not okay for you, I can pay you five times what you earn," she declared.

"Here, that's my card," she tossed her hands into her bag and brought out a laminated tiny piece of paper and handed it over to him.

"I'll be waiting for your call when you finally make a decision," she concluded and navigated her way back home without turning back.

Damian and Sabrina gazed at each other angrily, wishing to say a word and express their anguish, but the presence of Damon hindered them from talking.

Of course they cannot risk it.

They had to be careful not to give Damon reasons to doubt if they'd known each other before then.

Evans and Sabrina slowly walked back to the office together in shame.

From the disgusting look on the junior staff faces, they were certain that their topic would be the talk of town for the meantime in the company.

Damian looked keenly at the tiny paper he was holding. "Maya, I hope you know exactly what you're getting yourself into!" He said it inwardly with a smirk.

"This is the perfect opportunity for you to achieve what you've long awaited all this while, Damian. Maya, you've just used your hand and lips and started digging your grave slowly by yourself!" He added and shrugged before completing his original mission of coming into the premises before he had the unexpected promotion and kiss.

"Shit! Damon, you've fucked up! You've really fucked up big time!" Damon hit the table in his office abruptly, sweating profusely under the air condition.
