Chapter 16 - Golem Boss

I looked to the side where Jun was lying. He looked mostly okay because he somehow blocked the attack with his staff but his right hand looked purple making me assume it was broken.

'I guess he was out for this fight'

I turned back to where the golem was standing. Unlike the other golems we fought before, this one a glowing crystal on its chest. It also had glowing lines all over its body connected to the crystal on its chest.

Each step it took as it moved towards us sent tremors through the floor, cracks webbing out like shattered glass.

Without waiting for Blaze's orders I also rushed at the golem. But before I could reach it, I crashed into a literal wall.

'when did that get there?'

It's foot came crashing through the wall, but I already had a shadow barrier up but the impact still sent me flying back.

"Are you okay?" Amara asked when I landed near them.

"Yeah" I answered and then turned to Blaze "any ideas on how to deal with it?"

"Not really" He replied looking at the golem which was slowly approaching us, causing the entire room to shake "but if I had to guess, the crystal might be it's power source so we'll target that"

"Just one problem with that plan" Jun answered limping towards us (I guess his hand wasn't the only thing broken) "It spawns those rock things whenever we get close enough "

"Then let's try ranged attacks " Mia suggested.

" Yeah, let's do that" Blaze answered" And you'll be sitting this one out Jun"

"It's fine, my healing will kick in soon " he said but still stepped back, since he didn't have any ranged attacks (from what I know).

We started using different ranged attacks but all were blocked by the walls it spawned.

Well all except Amara's which just deleted the wall and headed straight for the golem but even those didn't do enough damage.

"Is there no way to beat this thing" Amara asked, she must have gotten pretty frustrated.

"There is " Mia answered her, focusing on attacking with the water drills she had created "we just have to figure it out"

I looked at the golem that was almost dangerously close to us. The team and I jumped back avoiding the boulder it threw at us.

The golem's movement suddenly halted and if you looked between its feet, you'd notice I had it trapped with some shadow hands.

This was the same trick I used against Blaze in our spar (well, his clone at least). The hands were able to hold him until he exploded.

But given how big the golem was, I wasn't confident in holding it for more than a couple of seconds but I didn't need to.

As it turns out, Jun could also make his clones spawn where his hair was left.with that ability, he willed a clone to appear behind the golem.

The clones created were of Jun at his best, so the clone didn't have any part broken. Just like Jun, the clone jumped and aimed for the restricted golem.

Unlike Jun, the clone's attack hit without obstruction. This was the first solid hit we've landed on the golem.

It slowly turned and sent a fist at the clone but its focus on the clone was to our advantage.

Blaze also created his clones, which hugged the golem's ankles and exploded. Mia followed up with a slice at the same spot. This severed its feet and put the golem off balance.

"Focus on the crystal!" Blaze shouted, her blade glinting as she dodged a massive stone fist.

Amara shot some spears of destruction which passed through the golem's head, taking it along.

Weirdly enough, even without it's head it was still moving.

I covered us all with a shadow barrier just in time to deflect a boulder hurled their way.

"We need to work together!"Balze said after sending another fireball at the golem.

"Right" Mia replied and helped me in keeping the monster restricted allowing the others to land a few attacks.

*Roar* with another roar (how the hell did it do that without its head), it snapped the restrictions that were holding it.

Jun who was now mostly healed said "Foolish creature! You face the great sage himself!" The golem didn't flinch but swung its arm with a deafening roar.

"Now!" Jun shouted, slamming his staff into the ground, sending a shockwave that destabilized the golem further.

With all the strength I could muster, I hurled a shadow blade towards the crystal in its chest.

My shadow blade found its mark, piercing the crystal. The golem froze, cracks spreading across its massive form like lightning. With a final groan, it collapsed, the ground shaking as it disintegrated into rubble.

As soon as the golem was felled, Gaia's voice rang again.

"Wait, why the hell is there another test?" I couldn't help but question. The others are currently running low on mana and Jun wasn't even fully healed from the last battle.

she replied< give it your all to survive this one because it will be the hardest so far, good luck>

'Hardest so far? Were the previous golems not hard enough? I freaking died to one' I inwardly grumbled but couldn't do anything since the final monster was already spawning.

The final monster looked like what I would define as a stone knight. It armor was made of stone and from underneath its helmet were two red glowing orbs which I assume were his eyes.

The only thing it had that wasn't made of stone was its sword. The sword looked like some kind of red crystal attached to a stone hilt.

Overall it looked smaller than the previous golems we fought, but height does not equal danger level and this was quickly proven correct when it moved.

'This was the freaking golem boss' I couldn't help but think.
