Chapter 3 - Demon Slaying

Andrea Leno

I might kill my father. Of all the reasons he could have called me home and made me cancel my date with Henry, it was because of a single average demon? He needed ME, for THIS?

Demons are divided into categories as follows: lower demon, average demon, high demon, great demon, elder demon, demon king, and demon god. I'm at the level of being able to handle high demons on my own.

I stared at my father, dumbfounded and angry "You really called me all the way home, for a single average demon?" My dad met my gaze and responded "Yes." without any further context.

My dad is an intimidating man, standing nearly a foot taller than me and with muscles that completely filled out his suit. He had short cut black hair and cleanly shaven facial hair, his eyes were almost exact copies of mine, or should I say mine were the same as his.

"Your brothers are currently out on assignments of their own and you were the only person left to call." Father made no change in expression as he stared at me, sometimes it felt like his eyes were able to see through everything the world tried to hide. "Fine." I responded and marched my way down the stairs of our house into the basement.

From the outside, our house looked like an average two story home without anything special to it. Under the house though, was an entirely different story. The first thing you were met with in the basement was a massive square training hall, with an area over 2500 square feet. There were various rooms located along the perimeter of the training hall and I headed to the first one, the armory.

I immediately went to the first locker on the right, which was my locker, and took out my trusted katana, Yoru. Yoru isn't any simple katana, it was forged out of demon steel, a metal dug up from the depths of the demon realm and infused with demonic energy. I changed into my demon slayers attire.

Tight black pants, a red shirt, and a black overshirt. Simple, but efficient. The clothes were threaded with demon steel threads to make them more stronger, more durable, and allow demonic energy to move through them. I ran my demonic energy through all of the equipment to test its efficacy. Perfect.

Demon Slayers are taught to wield demonic energy from a young age. We are taught how to absorb, integrate, and control demonic energy. Absorbing demonic energy is simple enough, you bring in the demonic energy from your surroundings into your body. Integrating is the hard step, where most people struggle and sometimes fail. We are taught to form a demonic core in our hearts.

By condensing a large amount of demonic energy very tightly within our hearts, it will become a core that is able to produce its own demonic energy. The cores can be divided into multiple stages: Initial, stable, complete, true, perfect, and boundless.

I have reached the true core stage, the highest in my family other than my father, who is at the boundless stage, and my mother, who is at the perfect stage.

With all of my equipment I headed back upstairs and out the front door. I got into the car and loaded the location dad had given me into the GPS on my phone and began driving. The location was that of an alley between two stores. Of course. Demons always hide in dark places, thinking they can remain unseen.

About 15 minutes later I made it to the location, I parked my car in the parking lot of one of the stores and walked down into the alley. I sensed it before even entering the alley. The demonic energy of this demon, it wasn't even able to control its energy. It must've just been promoted. The moment I entered the alley the demon tried to attack me.

Without any hesitation I drew my sword. Eclipse. One of my original techniques. Before the demon even realized what had happened I had cut it into over 20 pieces. It disappeared with a poof and turned into dust where it scattered in the wind. All demons turn to dust when they die, blood and everything. Too easy. I sheath my sword and made my way back to my car.

I drove home quickly and marched my way upstairs to report back to my father, who was sitting at his desk when I entered his office.

"You've returned fast." Before I could say a word and without looking up from his desk my father spoke. "It was just an average demon, what did you expect?" I responded. "Good, that should be all for today." After that statement I left and headed to my room.

This really was a waste of time, I could've been at the movies with Henry right now, instead I hunted down some waste demon. I wonder how he's doing at work, maybe we can do something when he gets off. I hope he's having a better time than I am.
