Henry Esprit
Waking up the next morning wasn't easy. I forgot to set my alarm and slept way too late. By the time I got up it was already 8:30, school started at 9, and it was a 15 minute drive when accounting for traffic. I hopped out of bed, got changed and ran downstairs. The wooden stairs creaking like they would give out under my footsteps.
The downstairs was empty, everybody must've already left. I ran out the front door and got into my car. I pulled out of the driveway and started driving to school, speeding the entire time. When I made it to the school I parked and sprinted towards the building and into class. I burst through the door of my first period calculus class right before the bell rang. I made it, barely.
"Running behind, are we?" From across the room I heard my first period teacher Mrs Chen speak. She was an older lady, maybe 60-70, walked with a cane and had a hunched back. Students had very different opinions of her, if you were doing good in her class and had good grades, she was a good teacher. However, if you were doing poorly and had bad grades, she was the closest thing to a demon this world had to offer.
"Just slept in a little." I awkwardly rubbed the back of my head while speaking to her. "Well quit standing there and take your seat!" She snapped, pointing her cane at me from her head. "Yes ma'am." I walked quickly to my seat, which was situated on the other end of the classroom.
As I sat down my friend Joshua leaned in and whispered to me "You sure chose the right day to cut it close. Mrs. Chen is in a good mood, apparently our class's average grade on the last test was high." Joshua was one of my best friends. I had known him since freshman year and we've been close ever since.
He was also quite popular among our grade. Smart, athletic, and kind. Mixed in with his short blonde hair, blue eyes, and charming looks he was a lot of girls "dream guy". It was sometimes annoying going places with him as he would garner attention everywhere.
"Why were you almost late anyways?" He asked. "Like I said, I just slept in late." I responded while getting my stuff ready for the day. "Uh-huh, I bet you were with Andrea last night, weren't you?" I could feel my face immediately flush up. "Maybe." Was all I said. "Yuh-huh, I bet y-"
"BOYS, quit talking while someone else is speaking!"Mrs. Chen yelled from the front of the room. "Yes ma'am!" We responded at the same time. " Good, now as I was saying, your classes test grades were very good, keep up the hard work. When I call your name, come collect your test." Mrs. Chen had begun handing back the tests we had taken last class.
"Henry. Joshua." When she called out names we both went to the front to collect our test papers. "What'd you get?" Joshua asked me when we sat back down. I looked down at my test paper and told him "98". "What? How? I only got a 94." "Pay up."
Begrudgingly Joshua reached into his pocket and grabbed his wallet, from which he grabbed a $5 bill and handed it to me. "I'll win next time." We had made a bet on who would do better on the test, obviously, I had won. "Yeah, yeah, sure you will.
The rest of the class was majorly uneventful, we just reviewed the test and began on the next unit's material. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th periods were also uneventful. Next was advisory, which I would normally spend with Andrea, except today she had to go to a teachers class for a make-up test, so I spent it with Joshua and some other friends. Same with lunch, as she was still doing her test. It wouldn't be until 7th period where I would be able to see her, which is the only class we have together.
Andrea Leno
This sucks. I have to take this stupid make-up test. I won't be able to see Henry until 7th period. That HOURS away. Maybe I should just skip the test and go to advisory. No, I shouldn't, if my parents heard about it I would probably die.
After third period ended I made my way to my calculus class to take my make-up test. On the way I passed by the common area, which I knew Henry would be at shortly. I was tempted to stop and wait for him for a bit, but alas, time is a jerk, so I continued walking. A short while later, I arrived at Mrs. Chen's class.
I entered the class and took a seat to wait for Mrs. Chen to arrive. I pulled out my phone and as I was about to text Henry, I overheard some girls talking from behind me. "Did you see Henry bust through the door this morning? It was so funny."
"I know right. He looked so good too, his hair being disheveled from sleeping in late and the slight sweat on him from obviously sprinting all the way from his car, his slightly heavy breaths?"
WHAT!? THEY GOT TO SEE WHAT!? I wanna see it, they got to see it and I didn't? Should I kill them? It would be so easy, just channel a slight amount of demonic energy and crush their skulls. They would die before anyone even realized it. No no, I shouldn't just kill people for that. Wow, I've become psychotic. But still, they're so lucky, I'm jealous. I wonder if they have any pictures?
While slowing pushing myself down the rabbit hole the door opened again and Mrs. Chen entered with a stack of papers in hand. "Hello everyone, I know you're either here to make up the last test or ask for help on assignments, I will first hand out the make-up tests and then help those who came for it, be patient" With that, she started handing out the make-up tests. I got a copy and immediately got to work, if I finished fast enough maybe I could see Henry for a bit during lunch.
Unfortunately, my luck was that good. The test problems were easy and I was churning through them faster than anyone else, but there were just so many of them. By the time I finished lunch was already over and it was time to head to 5th period. Guess I'll just have to wait until 7th. Wait, I should ask those girls if they have a picture.
