Chapter 3 - Chapter 3:Why Did I Fall For Him

me and my friends, we strolled through the school hall, chatting and laughing, a sudden, ear-piercing shout reverberated through the corridors.

"SMIT'S BACK!"

The loud voice echoed off the lockers, making me jump.

My friends, Emily and Sophia, exchanged excited glances.

"What's going on?" I asked, curiosity piqued.

Sophia grinned mischievously. "Romeo Smit's football team must have won a big game."

Emily nodded. "Or maybe his usual, beauty calm self and his cool friends."

I rolled my eyes, trying to hide my own excitement.

Romeo Smit, the star quarterback and my secret crush.

As we turned a corner, I spotted Romeo standing tall, surrounded by cheering teammates and admirers.

His eyes scanned the crowd, locking onto mine.

My heart skipped a beat.

I want to walk forward to congratulate him, but a figure rushed out from the crowd.

Priscilla.

She flung herself at Romeo, wrapping her arms around his waist.

"I knew you'd make it!" she exclaimed, her voice dripping with excitement. "I told you to make me proud, and you have!"

Romeo's expression remained cold, his eyes fleeting over me before turning away.

The students around us began to murmur and whisper to each other.

"Looks like they're back on."

"Guess the breakup rumors were false."

"Priscilla's got him wrapped around her finger."

My heart sank.

Priscilla glanced over her shoulder, her eyes locking onto mine.

A triumphant smile spread across her face.

"You lose, he's mine forever," she whispered as they walked past me.

Romeo's gaze flickered toward me, his expression unreadable.

Then, he turned away, following Priscilla.

I stood frozen, my congratulations stuck in my throat. Priscilla's sudden appearance and affectionate display shook me.

Romeo's expression remained cold, his eyes fleeting over me before turning away.

The whispered murmurs and rumors surrounding us grew louder:

"Romeo and Priscilla, back on?"

"Guess the breakup rumors were false."

"Priscilla's got him wrapped around her finger."

" they are really in a relationship."

"it's true they really know each other."

"they are perfect match".

"my lover boy is already dating"

girls cries and comment fill everywhere.

Each comment stung, my heart shattering into a million pieces.

Priscilla's victorious smile seared itself into my memory as she whispered, "You lose, he's mine forever."

The pair walked away, leaving me reeling.

Emily and Sophia rushed to my side, concern etched on their faces.

"selin, are you okay?" Emily asked.

Sophia's voice was laced with anger. "Priscilla thinks she owns him."

"I'm fine, I want to use the bathroom," I said hastily, rushing towards the bathroom and locking the door behind me.

I collapsed onto the floor, tears bursting forth as I surrendered to my emotions.

I cried bitterly, my heart feeling like it was being cut with a thousand knives. Our previous day's encounter kept replaying in my head.

Yesterday, Romeo protected me and acted as if he cared. Today, he looked at me with coldness, not even a single sign of recognition that we had talked yesterday.

And Priscilla, the girl he rejected yesterday, turned out to be his girlfriend. He walked with her, making it clear to everyone.

My heart felt crushed. I regretted my life. Why did I fall in love in the first place?

"Why, Romeo, why?" I sobbed, my voice echoing off the bathroom tiles.

The pain was unbearable. I hugged my knees, rocking back and forth.

How could he be so cold? Did yesterday mean nothing to him?

I sat on the cold bathroom floor, tears streaming down my face. The pain in my chest felt like a thousand knives stabbing me repeatedly.

"Why did I fall in love with him?" I sobbed, my voice echoing off the tiles.

Yesterday's memories haunted me. Romeo's protective gesture, his concerned expression, his gentle tone... All a ruse?

I thought we shared a connection, but it was just my foolish heart deceiving me.

Priscilla's triumphant smile and Romeo's cold indifference replayed in my mind like a cruel taunt.

I hugged my knees, rocking back and forth.

"How could he?" I whispered, anguish wracking my body.

The bathroom door creaked, and Emily's concerned voice called out, "Lisa, are you okay?"

I wiped my tears, taking a deep breath.

"I need a minute," I replied, trying to sound calm.

Emily's gentle reply came through the door. "We'll wait for you outside. Take your time."

I sat there, lost in my sorrow, wondering how I'd face Romeo again.

A song came in to my mind, it's lyrics echoing my headache.

"Why, why did I fall for you from afar?

Why did I give my heart, knowing we're worlds apart?

You're riches and fame, I'm simple and plain

Why did I dream of love that could never be gained?

Your world is luxury, mine is strife

Why did I fall for you, knowing it's not life?

Tears fall like rain, my heart beats in vain

Loving you, Romeo, a love that's doomed from the start, in vain"

Tears kept streaming down my face, blurring my vision. I felt like I was drowning in my own sorrow.

I splashed water on my face, trying to compose myself. But the pain lingered, refusing to subside.

I gazed at my reflection in the mirror, eyes red-rimmed and puffy.

"Why did I fall for him?" I whispered, shaking my head.

I took a deep breath and opened the bathroom door, steeling myself for the rest of the day.

Emily and Sophia waited outside, concern etched on their faces.

"Hey, are you okay?" Emily asked gently.

I forced a weak smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just need to get through the day."

Sophia nodded. "We're here for you."

As we walked down the hallway, I caught glimpses of Romeo and Priscilla. They seemed oblivious to my existence.

I felt a pang in my heart, but I refused to let it consume me.

I squared my shoulders, determination rising within me.

I would survive this. I would move on.

But the ache in my heart lingered, a constant reminder of my secret love.

I looked away, determination etched on my face, as if Romeo and Priscilla never existed. I turned to Emily and Sophia, forcing a bright smile.

"Hey, guys! Did you hear about the school dance coming up?" I asked, attempting to sound enthusiastic.

Emily and Sophia exchanged knowing glances but played along.

"Yeah, I heard it's going to be epic!" Emily replied, matching my fake excitement.

Sophia chimed in, "We should totally plan our outfits together!"

I laughed, trying to sound genuine, but my friends knew better.

Emily subtly squeezed my arm, a silent show of support.

"We're here for you, Lisa," her eyes seemed to say.

As we continued chatting, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Romeo was watching me. I resisted the urge to glance over, focusing on my friends instead.

We walked together, a united front, pretending I was carefree.

But beneath the surface, my heart still ached.
