Chapter 3 - Negative Gore

There was sudden chaos in the lobby of Red Ace hospital. Several doctors rushed to the entrance, whiles the paramedics wheeled Geralds bloody stretcher across the hallway to the operating emergency room. "Quick, get Doctor Johanson" One of the nurses shouted. They raced with the body to the emergency room. Ealene tried to follow but they stopped her halfway. "Please ma'am you can't exceed this point" she said closing the doors to the other end. Earlene shivered and cried as she picked up her phone to dial a number. Her hands and portions of her clothes were covered in blood. "Hell-hello..." she said shakingly. "Hello, please who is this?" the receiver asked. "it's me Harvey." she replied covering her mouth amidst sobs. "Earl? Are you okay... where is Gerald?" he asked. "We are at Red Ace right now. He was stabbed... the doctors are still working on him... I, I, I don't know what to do, I..." "Don't worry I'm on my way. Don't go anywhere, I will be right there." he said and hanged up. Earlene dropped the phone and fell on her knees. A nurse immediately came out of the ER. Earlene immediately rushed over to her. The frightened nurse tried to back off, but she managed to stop her. "How is he? is he okay?" She asked with a worried look on her face. "I think you need to wait for the doctor." she said and hurriedly ran off.

It was 4am in the morning. Valerie had just woken up from sleep and she looked tired. She got out of bed and walked to the kitchen. After gulping down several cups of steaming hot coffee, she picked up her phone and went through her previous messages. She was to leave the apartment at six to prepare for her boss. She looked at her planner. There was no peculiar event or meeting today. He hadn't texted or called or even made the attempt to come see her. It felt weird and cringe to her. She couldn't seem to harbor any feeling of anger for him concerning the previous night. As she sipped down another cup of coffee, she reminisced about what they had. How his hands touched and caressed her. It was aggressive but gentle and steamy. "I have never done this before." she said jokingly in her drunken state. "I know, I'll be gentle" she heard him say. Memories of the size of his phallus rushed into her mind and she gasped. Suddenly her phone rang, and she picked it up to check. It was Harvey. "Hey Harv, what's up? is Gerald with you?" she asked. "It's code red. He is hospitalized. I am on my way to the hospital now." he said. "Wait, what do you mean by hospitalized? what happened?" "I don't know. He is at Red Ace, get there as soon as possible." he said and hanged up. Valerie immediately rushed to her room, changed into her clothes and raced out of the apartment. She entered her Renault four vintage car and speedily drove off.

Earlene sat outside the ER. She looked at the passing nurses and frequent commotion which erupted anytime a new patient entered the lobby. the doors to the ER immediately opened and a middle-aged woman in a surgeon's wear walked out followed by a couple of nurses. she removed her gloves and disposed them in the bin nearby. Earlene immediately rushed to her and inquired of Geralds health. "he's okay ma'am. we managed to stitch up the wound. It wasn't a deep wound so none of his vital organs were damaged." The doctor said calming her down. "Who are you to if I may ask? Earlene heaved a sigh of relief. "But his condition is still critical. The stab wound tore up a lot of his veins causing him to lose a lot of blood. For now, he is in a comatose state and his situation cannot be defined. He needs blood urgently..." She spoke. "Take mine!" Earlene turned to investigate the origin of the voice and realized it was Harvey. "Oh Harv, thank God you are here." Earlene said softly as she rushed to hug him. "You can take mine." Harvey said referring to the doctor. "And you are? She asked him. "His personal security." "Well, that's not how things work. You will need to be in the same blood group as him." she further explained. "Right now, we need an AB negative blood donor." "But an O or B type can donate right?" "Yes, but we need to be on the safer side. His immune cells might reject the new ones and that can cause a negative reaction in his circulation." she said glancing at her watch. "I have to go, see you later." she said and hurried off. "Where are we going to get a negative type for him.?" Harvey asked as he embraced her tightly. " I don't know yet. we'll figure it out. don't worry." Earlene said assuring. Harvey lifted up his head and immediately spotted Valerie walking towards them. He quickly tore from her embrace and took a few steps back. His actions really surprised Earlene but he pointed towards Valerie direction, and she instantly got it. "Val? what are you doing here?" she asked with a frown. "Harvey called me... wait, what are you doing here?" Valerie asked with a serious look. "He needs blood Val, do you know anyone with AB negative." Harvey asked abating the rising tension. He glanced at Earlene, and she shot him a thank-you look. He smiled back at her and Valerie noticed it, but she ignored it. "Francis is the only one I know... wait let me call him. She said taking out her phone. "No wait, what are you doing?" "Ealene asked. "Calling him." "Is there a problem sweet... I mean Earl?" Harvey asked. "Of course. who do you think put Gerald in that situation?" "What? You mean Francis did this to him?" Harvey asked. "Yes! Are you even listening... whatever." she said rolling her eyes. "I need to see him." Valerie said trying to walk past them, but Earlene stopped her in her tracks. "He is not stable. We should wait." she suggested. Valerie nodded in accordance and sat down. "What about Francis?" Valerie asked. "Hell no. I will not resort to that imbecile, never." Earlene yelled. "What is your stake in this? Why is Geralds wellbeing so important to you all of a sudden?" she asked. "Nothing. I just don't see Francis to be good." "Well, he's the only one capable of saving him." "I know but there can be other way to solve this.... by the way, why are you so calm." "I don't know. I don't know what to feel anymore." Valerie said softly. Earlene hugged her friend intending to console her. Suddenly Valerie's phone ringed and she picked it up to answer it. "Hey Val, it's me Francis." he said. "Hey babe, where are you. We need to talk baby. I know I did wrong but...." "I am in prison Val, please come get me out of here" Francis said with a pleading voice. Valerie's face changed and the duo realized something was wrong. "What is up Val. anything wrong with that fop?" Earlene asked with a sinister smile. "Seriously?" "Yeah!" "He has been arrested. I don't know why. I am going to see him." Valerie said. "Do you want me to come with you?" Harvey asked. "No. stay here with Sir Gerald. I will be back." She said patting Harvey on the shoulder. Earlene glared at Harvey and sat down. "I think you should understand her. She is his fiancé after all." Harvey commented. Earlene rolled her eyes. He sighed. "I think I am going to go. I need to see the Doctor to know more details. I think you should go home too. You need rest." Harvey suggested. "I love you." He said kissing her on the forehead. She smiled faintly and he walked off.
