Chapter 45 - shadows on the Run.45.

The scene continues under the tunnel, Deborah and her pack remain hidden, attempting to evade the relentless assault from the Knight warriors, a brutal new force tasked with wiping out all Under-worlders. These warriors, now roaming the city and streets, use a blend of magic and vampire blood running through their veins to locate and eliminate any supernatural beings. By invoking a specific incantation and taking a drop of blood gifted to them by Henry, they gained extraordinary strength, speed, and invulnerability against the Under-worlders. On the other hand, the aftermath of the press conference by the leader of the Knight Warriors sent shock waves through Uptown. Alongside the press conference, which was held by Mr Frank, the Mayor of the city.  Congratulating the knight warriors on a job well done—for restoring peace and order in Uptown and beyond. After the conference, many people were happy, but some weren't. Some opposed the brutal approach of the knight warriors against the Down-worlders, while others were genuinely pleased. After the mayor's press conference, the leader of the knight warriors also addressed the public, explaining that their job wasn't done yet. They would go into every nook and cranny of Uptown and beyond, ensuring that every Down-worlder was eliminated and wiped out from the surface. Mrs Clinton, hearing this from her home, was not pleased. She and her daughter, Vanessa, were sitting in their living room, listening to the news. Suddenly, they heard a noise from the staircase. It was Richard. Richard had been seriously unconscious for the past four days, his body battling transformation. But now, he has finally changed. Oh, Richard! Elena exclaimed, rushing to him. But Richard wasn't okay. He felt weak and desperately hungry. He bolted to the fridge, grabbed some pizza, and shoved slices into his mouth, but immediately spat them out. What is going on? What's happening to me? Mrs. Clinton turned to him, trying to calm him down and explain. Three days ago, we were attacked by a pack of vampires, and as I speak to you now, we have all been turned. We're vampires, Richard. Richard stared at her, eyes wide with disbelief. No, no, that can't be! You're lying! He turned away, pacing back and forth in panic. I remember… I was with Elena. Yes, I was with Elena when it all happened. He suddenly spun around to face Elena, who was standing quietly, her eyes full of guilt. Is that true, Elena? He asked, his voice trembling. "You let this happen to me?" Elena lowered her gaze, her voice barely above a whisper. I… I didn't mean for it to happen, Richard. I'm so sorry. His face contorted with a mixture of anger and heartbreak. Without another word, he dashed out of the room with vampire speed, disappearing into the upper floor of the house. Elena chased after him, reaching the door to his room, only to find it locked. Richard, please! I can explain! She called out, hitting the door. I didn't mean for any of this to happen. I'm sorry, just let me in! From behind the door, Richard's voice was laced with pain and frustration. Go away, Elena! Leave me alone! I can't… I don't want to see anyone! Please, you need help! She pleaded."I said leave me alone!" His voice broke, revealing the deep turmoil he felt over his new state.

While many citizens rejoiced over the elimination of the blood drinker, a significant portion of the public, including influential figures like Mrs Clinton and Mrs Charlton, reacted with outrage. Mrs Clinton, a former top official who had been replaced as the secretary of Uptown City, was devastated. As a vampire herself, she had lost

Both her position and many of her fellow vampires in the massacre at the facility. The pain of losing loved ones, combined with the persecution of her kind, drove her to take action. Mrs. Clinton learned of the Knight Warriors' actions through the news, her anger growing as she watched the coverage. Without hesitation, she files a lawsuit against Mayor Frank, accusing him and the Knight Warriors of targeting innocent vampires. In a bold move, she recorded a video denouncing the mayor and shared it on social media, where it quickly went viral, drawing attention from all corners of the city. Mrs. Charlton, The FBI, and other influential vampire who had seen the video, empathized deeply with Mrs. Clinton's situation. Mrs. Charlton immediately called her and offered support, soon arranging a visit alongside Mr. Reed and Mrs. Isabella, a senior and personal lawyer to Mrs. Clinton. The four influential individuals all gathered at Mrs Clinton's house, to discuss their shared grievances and devise a plan to take the mayor to court. Mrs Isabella, Mrs. Clinton's lawyer arrived soon after, and together they prepared the legal case against Mayor Frank. The following day, Mrs. Isabella personally delivered the lawsuit letter to the mayor's office, informing him that they would see him in court in the coming month. Mayor Frank, unfazed, merely smiled and quickly notified his own legal team to prepare for the battle ahead. One month later, the courtroom was filled with tension as Mrs. Clinton and Mayor Frank faced off, with their respective lawyers ready to argue the case. Mrs. Clinton arrived under the protection of Mrs. Charlton, who had ensured that she, as a vampire, could make it safely to the court in daylight, was shielded from the sun by a heavily tinted car and an umbrella. The trial began with Mrs. Isabella passionately argued on behalf of Mrs. Clinton, accusing the mayor and the Knight Warriors of committing atrocities against innocent vampires. She emphasized how many of the vampires had once been allies of the military, defending Uptown from threats, and now they were being hunted down. She argued that the introduction of the Knight Warriors had endangered the lives of peaceful vampires like Mrs. Clinton, calling for their disbandment and the restoration of fairness in Uptown. Mayor Frank's lawyer countered with equal fervor, defending the Knight Warriors' actions as necessary to restore order. He claimed that any casualties were unfortunate but inevitable in the fight to secure the city from monsters who posed a threat to humanity. He insisted that the actions taken were not murder but a necessary evil to protect the greater good. The debate grew so heated that the judge was forced to adjourn the hearing to a later date, needing more time to deliberate the complex case. Mrs. Clinton, escorted out of the courtroom by Mrs. Charlton's security was visibly shaken but determined. Back at home, her mind raced as she thought of her next move. Then it hit her—she had a trump card. She remembered a file containing evidence of Mayor Frank's involvement in corruption, specifically money laundering and bribery. This was the leverage she needed. Without wasting time, she called Mrs. Charlton and told her about the documents which she knew about and how she duplicated them. Now holding a copy of the document.

Mrs. Clinton took photos of the evidence and sent them to Mrs. Charlton, planning to hand the originals to Mrs. Isabella the next day. This new lawsuit would target Mayor Frank's history of corruption, adding even more pressure to his already precarious situation. The following day, Mrs. Isabella arrived at Mrs. Clinton's home, where the two discussed their next steps. Mrs. Clinton handed over the documents, and they filed the second lawsuit immediately. This time, the charges would go beyond the vampire-related conflicts—they would expose Mayor Frank's corrupt dealings, threatening not only his reputation but his entire career. When Mayor Frank received the news of this new lawsuit, his calm demeanor crumbled. He immediately called Mrs. Clinton, his voice steady but seething with anger. Mrs. Clinton, do you think you can go to war with me? Mrs. Clinton laughed coldly. "Since you want it that way, you'll have it." Mr. Frank let out a mirthless chuckle in return. Your situation leaves me no choice. I made the deal, and there's no going back—not until the courts decide. You're a monster now. Mrs. Clinton's voice sharpened. And that's why you withdrew my appointment, isn't it? Because I'm a monster now? She paused, then added with a smirk, "Why don't you call your son and tell him the same?" Frank was stunned. What? What are you talking about? You heard me, Mrs. Clinton replied, her tone icy. "Maybe you should call your son and ask him what he's become." She ended the call abruptly, leaving Mayor Frank rattled. Confused and alarmed, Frank immediately called his son, Richard, on video. To his shock, Richard answered, visibly uneasy. Behind him, the familiar face of Elena lingered in the background. Richard, Frank said sharply, where are you? What's going on? Dad, Richard sighed, his voice filled with regret. I'm sorry, but I'm no longer human. Frank's world stopped. What do you mean? I…I was turned. It happened a month ago, during Mrs. Clinton's birthday. We were attacked. Frank's face went pale. I warned you to stay away from Uptown! His voice trembled with both anger and fear. Dad, you have to stop them! The Knight Warriors—they'll kill me! I know I made a mistake. I know I should've listened, but I didn't know this would happen. Please, you have to reverse the order! Mr. Frank (sitting behind a large desk, the Mayor's crest visible on the wall behind him, his face stern)

You think this is a game, Richard? Do you think you can just waltz into Uptown and disobey every warning I gave you, and now you expect me to save you from the consequences? Do you know how many lives we've lost already to these creatures? Richard (voice cracking, eyes pleading):

I didn't choose this, Dad! I didn't ask to become one of them! But now I am, I don't even know how to control it. If you send the Knight Warriors, they won't care who I was—they'll only see a vampire. I'm your son! Please, don't turn your back on me. Mr. Frank (his expression hardening, but a flicker of pain flashes in his eyes):

You are my son, but you chose this path. I told you—stay out of Uptown. You thought you were invincible, didn't you? And now... now you've become what I swore to destroy. Richard (tears welling up, voice breaking):

Dad, don't leave me to die! I can't... I don't want to be one of them, but if you let the Knight Warriors loose, I won't survive. Mr. Frank (pausing, his voice colder than before):

This city is in chaos because of these creatures. I gave the order for a reason. No exceptions. You made your choice, Richard, and now you're alone. Richard (shaking his head in disbelief, whispering

You're really going to leave me to die? I'm your son, Dad, Mr. Frank (his expression hardens, leaning forward):

You were my son, Richard. The moment you became one of them, you became a threat, not just to me, but to every person in this city. The Knight Warriors have one job—to protect Uptown from the Underworld, and that includes you now. Richard (tears welling up, voice trembling):

Dad, please, I didn't ask for this. I'm still me. I can control it. I won't hurt anyone, I swear! Mr. Frank (coldly):

You're on your own, Richard. You made your choice the moment you stepped foot in Uptown. The order stands, and the Knight Warriors won't stop until every last one of your kind is wiped out. Goodbye. (The screen goes black as Mr. Frank ends the call, leaving Richard staring at the dark screen, his heart racing as he realizes the full weight of his father's decision.
