Chapter 50 - The Mayor's scandal.

Tamara stood in the middle of a desolate field, her eyes burning with determination. She clutched the magic bangle in her hand and threw it forward. The air shimmered as the bangle spun, and a swirling portal opened up in front of her, leading to the ancient vampire wizard temple. Without hesitation, Tamara stepped through the dark energy surrounding her as the portal closed behind her. Inside the temple, the cold air was thick with magic and mystery. The towering stone walls were covered in ancient runes, flickering faintly as if alive with power. At the far end, Henry stood, his back to her, gazing into the mystical flame that danced in the center of the chamber."Henry," Tamara called out, her voice echoing through the chamber. Henry turned slowly, his expression unreadable. "Tamara. You've come." She approached him, the weight of her thoughts heavy on her mind. "You once said you had a plan to end this, to put an end to the vampire race and reverse everything to normal. Is that still your intention?" Henry's lips curled into a small smile. "Ah, yes. I remember the promises made by the wizard and myself.

Tamara crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. "So what is your plan now? You're executing something, I can tell. You've been working with Deborah, haven't you? Henry nodded, a dark glint in his eyes. "Indeed. Deborah was just the beginning. My plan involves the mayor—turning him into a vampire was the first step. Once he's under our control, we'll have the means to implement my true plan," Henry explained, leaning closer to Tamara, his eyes glinting with determination. "This isn't just about gaining power; it's about putting an end to the vampire race once and for all." Tamara furrowed her brow, confusion mingling with intrigue. "What do you mean? I thought you wanted to dominate the city?" Dominance is just a means to an end," he replied, his voice lowering as he revealed the depths of his strategy. "By turning the mayor into one of us, I can manipulate him to execute our plan from within. Deborah believes I'm on her side, but I need her to be my pawn in this game. Once we have the mayor, we can reverse the conditions that led to our downfall." Tamara felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. "You really think this will work? How do you plan to pull it off? Sit back and watch as my plan unfolds," Henry assured her, a confident smirk forming on his lips. "The mayor will be the key to our victory. He'll unwittingly help us dismantle the vampire race while believing he's protecting our kind." As the tension between them thickened, Tamara took a deep breath, her heart racing with anticipation. "It's been a long time, Henry. I miss you."I miss you too," he said, his expression softening as he stepped closer. In an instant, the space between them vanished.  As they melted into each other, lost in their connection.

The following day, in his opulent office, Mayor Frank sat behind his polished desk, a deep frown etched on his face. He picked up the phone and dialed the number of his second-in-command, the once-powerful knight Warriors. Have you located my son?" he demanded as soon as the line connected. "And what about Mrs. Clinton? I need updates on both missions!" A heavy silence followed before his second-in-command responded, "We're no longer operational, Mayor. We couldn't find your son, and without our source of power, we were warned against continuing our activities. If we do, we will die." Frank's heart sank. "What do you mean? The vampires aren't a threat to us anymore, are they? They are, because we're now powerless against them. We stand no chance," the voice on the other end explained, sounding defeated."

The scene continues in the mayor's office, as the conversation with the second in command of the Knight warriors, presses on.

Then what about our leader? I've been trying to reach him, Frank pressed, growing more frustrated."I'm sorry, Mayor. The leader is dead. The mystery that took away our powers killed him and took the magic from us, the second-in-command stated, his tone grim. Disappointment washed over Frank. "This can't be happening! His head began to throb painfully, each beat pulsing like a hammer against his skull. He slammed the phone down, struggling to stay upright as the ache intensified. Before he could process what was happening, darkness consumed him, and he fell forward onto his desk, unconscious. Meanwhile, Maria, his secretary, had been calling his phone repeatedly, growing increasingly concerned when there was no answer. She finally decided to check on him in his office. Approaching the door, she hesitated but then entered, thinking he was merely sleeping."Mayor?" she called softly as she walked in. She approached the desk and reached out to touch him, feeling his cold skin beneath her fingers. "Are you okay? When he didn't respond, she leaned closer, not realizing the danger lurking just beneath the surface. The vampire venom coursing through his veins had started to manifest, but Maria had no way of knowing that. Maybe you just need some rest,  she murmured, backing away to give him space, blissfully unaware of the impending transformation that was beginning to take hold of the mayor. A few moments later, the mayor groaned softly as he began to regain consciousness, blinking against the light flooding the room. His head still throbbed, and he struggled to piece together the chaos unfolding around him.

What is wrong with me? He muttered. Immediately, he picked up his car keys and headed out of the office.

Now, back in the government lodge

Frank sipped the glass of whiskey in his hand, savoring the burn as it slid down his throat. He turned away from the city view outside his window and made his way to his bedroom. As his hand rested on the doorknob, the sharp headache that had tormented him earlier returned with a vengeance. He staggered, clutching his head, his vision blurring. Gasping for air, Frank stretched out a trembling hand, barely managing to reach the edge of his bed. Collapsing onto the mattress, he passed out almost instantly, his body succumbing to the strange fatigue that gripped him. Hours passed. The sound of the doorbell rang through the house. Maria, his loyal secretary, arrived at the mansion and was greeted by the bodyguard stationed at the entrance. "Is Mr. Frank home? She asked, a touch of concern in her voice. The bodyguard nodded. "He should be in his room. Maria headed upstairs to check on him. Entering the bedroom, she was surprised to find him fully clothed, still wearing his shoes from the office. She furrowed her brow, muttering to herself, "How can Mr. Frank sleeps like this? She carefully removed his shoes and adjusted him on the bed so that he lay more comfortably. Satisfied, Maria left him to rest and made her way to the kitchen, deciding to prepare something for him when he woke up. Nearly two hours later, Frank stirred. His eyes snapped open, but something was wrong, terribly wrong. He felt different. There was a gnawing hunger deep inside him, unlike anything he had ever felt before. He stood slowly, his movements sluggish, and made his way toward the mirror across the room. As he glanced at the reflection, his breath caught in his throat. There was nothing there—no reflection staring back at him. He blinked, his heart racing, unsure if his eyes were playing tricks on him. No, no, this can't be happening, he whispered, stepping closer to the mirror. He reached out, his hand trembling as he touched the glass. A loud crack echoed through the room as the mirror split, its surface splintering under his touch. For the first time, he saw himself—but the reflection wasn't normal. His eyes were dark, hollow, and his teeth, long and sharp, gleaming like the fangs of a predator. His breath hitched. "Am I a vampire? Fear and disbelief flooded him. How could this be? His mind raced, "Oh my God, this can't be, Frank whispered, stumbling back from the mirror. His heart beating loudly in his chest, his mind spinning out of control. From the kitchen, Maria heard the commotion. She quickly finished what she was preparing and made her way to the bedroom, calling out as she walked down the hall. "Mr. Frank? Are you awake? Frank's heightened senses picked up her approach, but something was different. He could smell her—smell the blood coursing through her veins. The hunger he felt deep inside stirred violently, an uncontrollable urge rising within him. He staggered back, panic setting in. "No, no, I can't, I won't, But the hunger was too much. His teeth throbbed, aching for the taste of blood. Maria entered the room, her voice soft and concerned. "Hi baby, are you alright? You scared me. What was all that noise? But Frank didn't respond. Instead, he hid himself behind the door, his breathing rapid, fighting the instinct clawing at his very soul. The scent of her blood became intoxicating, overwhelming. His mind clouded as primal instincts took over. Maria looked around the room, confused. She didn't see him at first and assumed he must still be lying on the bed. As she moved further into the room, her back turned, Frank's resolve finally crumbled. With inhuman speed, he lunged at her from behind, grabbing her by the shoulders. She let out a startled gasp, but before she could scream, Frank sank his vampire fangs deep into her neck. Maria struggled for a brief moment, her fingers clawing at his arms, but the venom and shock took over quickly. Frank drained her blood, feeling a rush of power and energy coursing through his veins with each swallow. The room seemed to fade away, and for that moment, all that mattered was the primal satisfaction of feeding. When it was over, Maria slumped lifeless in his arms, her body falling limp. Frank recoiled in horror, blood staining his lips and his hands shaking. He stared down at her pale, lifeless face, unable to comprehend what he had just done. No, what have I become? He backed away, dropping her body onto the floor. His mind raced, filled with terror and guilt. "This wasn't supposed to happen! I... I didn't want this! But it was too late. The transformation had taken its toll, and now, Frank was no longer the man he used to be.
