Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Grip of The Faceless Adversary

PAGE 1

Setting: Wendy's apartment kitchen.

Wendy stands off against her faceless adversary, ready to defend herself.

The faceless creature dashes at Wendy, cocking back its left arm. Instead of having its fist balled, it's cocking back an open palm.

The faceless adversary lunges an open palm at Wendy, but she dodges to the side.

The faceless bends its right hand behind its back in a way that's unnatural for a human.

The faceless creature's right arm, which is behind its back, stretches a few feet towards Wendy, the tip of its arm as sharp as a blade.

Wendy: "What the!"

Wendy reacts by jumping back, barely dodging the unexpected attack.

Wendy stands with her guard up, having made some distance from jumping back. The faceless creature's arms pull back as they return to normal size.

Wendy: Okay…so this thing isn't limited to natural human movements and isn't restricted by bones. That's my guess, anyway.

The creature jumps in the air as Wendy braces herself, reaching for her pistol.

Wendy pulls out her gun and begins firing, shooting the creature down.

Quick perspective shift to Devlon. Devlon's nearly startled, on high alert by what he heard.

Devlon: "Huh?" Those were gunshots! "That came from the inside!"

Devlon hastily runs into the building.

Devlon: She's in trouble!

 Shift back to Wendy's perspective.

PAGE 3

Wendy walks over to the faceless creature, who appears to be dead after taking in those shots.

Wendy: "I've seen some odd things, but…"

She kneels over on one knee.

Wendy: "What is this thing?"

Suddenly, there appear to be lumps rising from the Faceless creature's body. Wendy's eyes widen as this startles her.

Wendy: "What?!"

The rising lumps sharpen, forming spikes as they extend out in every direction!

Wendy quickly jumps back, forming an X with her arms in an attempt to protect her vitals.

One of the spikes grazes her side, making a bloody tear in her shirt.

Another spike just misses her head, cutting her cheek.

Wendy's back slams into one of her kitchen drawers, her back ramming into a drawer handle.

Wendy: "Gaaaaa!"

PAGE 4

Wendy struggles to her feet, holding her side, while the creature pulls its spikes back and stands up.

The faceless thing stands. The bullets it had been shot with begin to fall out of its body.

Wendy: So much for that. Those bullets had no effect! That body is too flexible and…

Wendy looks to her side to see a fire extinguisher on the wall.

Wendy: "Hmmm…"

The creature jumps in at Wendy. She braces herself.

Wendy: He's not making this easy. "That's fine. I like a challenge."

PAGE 6

Wendy was ready to dodge, but is surprised when Devlon shoulders the faceless creature in front of her. She gets a glimpse of his facial expression and he. Looks. Pissed!

Wendy: "Devlon?"

Standing close to Wendy, Devlon quickly looks Wendy's way. Though clearly concerned, he isn't aware that he still wears an angry face.

Devlon: "You okay?"

Wendy: "Yeah."

Wendy cringes in pain while holding her side. Devlon turns to her, looking concerned of course.

Wendy: "Ngh!"

Devlon: "You're injured!"

Wendy: "I'm good! Promise. I just...got caught off guard with that thing's weird abilities."

Devlon turns back to the faceless creature, reaching for his sword handle.

Devlon: "That's alright. You held your own. I really mean that. But right now it's my turn."

Devlon pulls out his sword handle, a greenish blade of energy emitting from it.

Devlon: "I'll show this thing what happens to those who mess with my team!"

PAGE 7

Devlon and the faceless thing dash at each other while Wendy watches.

Devlon blitzes past the faceless creature with a side slash.

Wendy: He's fast!

Now standing behind the faceless creature, Devlon confidently stands with his back to the creature. The faceless creature splits into three pieces, which fall to the floor.

Devlon curiously walks up to the diced creature to check things out.

Devlon: What is this thing?

Wendy: "Hold up! This is the same mistake I made. He may not be dead!"

Devlon: "What in the world?" I've never seen anything survive being diced into thirds.

One of the pieces of the faceless creature's body emerges a metallic, almost liquidy spike and launches at Devlon, who appears to be off guard.

PAGE 8

Devlon effortlessly catches the spike right before it reaches his face. He looks insulted.

Devlon: "You'll have to be a lot faster than that if you intend on hurting me."

While Devlon holds the extended spike, the pieces of the creature that Devlon cut start to meld together to reform its humanoid body. The spike that Devlon caught starts changing consistency to an almost melted metallic form, oozing over Devlon's arms.

Devlon: "What the…"

Devlon plunges his blade through the creature's abdomen. The creature looks down. No pain. No blood. It doesn't seem to be affected.

The gooey metallic texture of the creaturecauses Devlon's sword handle to get stuck a little, but Devlon quickly pulls out and gains some distance.

Devlon: "Huh? What the!"

Wendy (off screen): "Devlon! Use this!"

PAGE 9

Wendy tosses a fire extinguisher at Devlon.

Wendy: "This should limit his shapeshifting. Catch!"

Devlon catches the fire extinguisher.

Devlon: "Right!"

Devlon begins beating the faceless creature over the head with the fire extinguisher.

Devlon: "Take this! And THAT!"

Devlon beats the faceless senseless even harder.

Devlon: "This isn't working, Wendy!"

Wendy impatiently runs to Devlon.

Wendy: He can't be serious right now!

PAGE 10

Wendy runs over, places a hand on Devlon's hand and takes the extinguisher from Devlon.

She aims the extinguisher at the faceless creature. Devlon watches in awe as he takes mental notes.

Wendy: See? Like this.

Devlon's eyes widen in amazement as Wendy shoots the faceless's arm.

The faceless's arm starts to crack, then shatter. It appears to be in pain.

PAGE 11

With one arm left, the creature jumps up away from Wendy and Devlon. In the midst of the situation, Wendy makes time to glare at Devlon with a side eye.

Wendy: "We're gonna have to have a serious talk about your lack of certain skills when this is over."

Wendy aims the extinguisher at the creature, who's now missing an arm. The cut off of its arm, near the shoulder, is darkened and crusty.

Wendy smokes it up with her new weapon, creating a cloud of smoky vapor. The creature is frozen in place, crackling all over. She shatters the frozen creature with the fire extinguisher.

Devlon: "Did we do it?"

Wendy: "I think so." We?

Wendy lets out a sigh of relief.

Wendy: "Phew! I hope Elliot's doing better than we are!"

Devlon: "I'm sure he is. We should catch up with him and try to figure out what's going on."

PAGE 12

Scene changes to Elliot's perspective.

Setting: Outside in an unknown neighborhood. It seems deserted.

Elliot stands before the faceless creature he encountered. The faceless stands about 6 feet in front of him. Elliot appears to be winded, putting in an effort to remain standing.

Elliot: *Pant* "Just who…is this guy?"

The faceless extends its arm and grips Elliot's throat.

Elliot falls to one knee, holding the creature's arm with both hands.

Elliot: I can't do anything! Knowing how to use my ability would really come in handy right now.

The faceless comes closer while its grasp on Elliot's neck…loosens?

It meets Elliot at eye level, tilting its head. The faceless almost appears curious as it analyzes Elliot.

Elliot: What's it want with me?

A small hold opens near where its mouth would be if it had a face. It leans in closer to Elliot.

Suddenly, a mysterious man comes down on the creature with a downward kick, sending its "face" to the ground and causing it to let go of its grip on Elliot's neck.

Elliot catches his breath as the mysterious man stands in front of him.

Man: "You okay, kid?"

Elliot: "*cough* I…I am now."

The creature jumps at the man. The man stands tall and calm. Elliot reaches a hand out to the man.

Elliot: "Look out!"

PAGE 13

The mysterious man clobbers the faceless creature with a downward punch, sending it back to the ground.

Elliot: "Woah!"

The concrete ground starts to break apart beneath the stunned creature, then liquifies around it like cement, slowly trapping it in place.

Elliot: Wait…the ground is-

The creature is now held down in place as its arms and legs are held inside solid rock.

The man pulls out a taser. He powers it on, electricity sparking out of the tip of it.

Man: "And this is the end."

PAGE 14

Full screen image of the man shoving the taser onto the creature's back and firing up the taser. The creature appears to be in pain as electricity spews from its body in multiple directions.

PAGE 15

The man stands tall. His back is still facing Elliot. Elliot jumps with excitement.

Elliot: "That was awesome! Who are you, anyway?"

The man turns around. It's Stone! Though, he's wearing a gag mustache.

Stone: "Let's just say I'm…a friend." Real smooth, indeed.

Elliot: "Hey, don't I know you from somewhere?"

Stone: "Er…No! What makes you say that?" Don't tell me this disguise wasn't good enough! I paid a whole dollar shopping for this thing!

Elliot: "I dunno. You look familiar. Your voice does too. Wait, I remember now!"

Stone looks worried. He's been found out!

Stone: Shoot! He knows! Maybe I should have gotten the added beard for an extra fifty cents!

Elliot points at Stone as if he's got it all figured out.

Elliot: "You tried to sell me something a while back. That means you're a salesman!"

Stone: This kid has no idea who I am!

Stone regains his composure and plays it cool.

Stone: "I'm glad I got here in time. You can call me Walter."

Elliot: "Sounds just like a salesman's name. Anyway, thanks for helping me, Waltz."

PAGE 16

Elliot looks past Stone, pointing at the dead faceless creature.

Elliot: "Hey um…that thing. Any idea what it is?"

Stone: "Not entirely sure. But it was definitely interested in you, kid."

Stone turns around, kneeling at the creature to make sure it doesn't get back up.

Elliot: "Why would it be interested in me? And what happened to its legs? It's like he got himself stuck or something."

Stone: "He didn't do that to himself, kid. That was caused by my ability."

Elliot: Ability?

Elliot points again.

Elliot: "You mean you're-"

Stone: "That's right. You and I have a lot in common."

Elliot: "Wait, how do you know about me? How do you know that I'm-"

Stone stands back up and pops his neck.

Stone: "Of all the people in town, it went straight for you. That's how I know you and I are the same."

Elliot: "Huh? I don't get it."

Stone's chill demeanor becomes more serious.

Stone: "I don't know what they are, but those things have been specifically targeting irregulars."
