Chapter 9: Unspoken Truths
Niel and Lyrian appeared at the top of the balcony, overlooking the grand ballroom. The music and laughter below contrasted with the tension between them.
"What is it that you want?" Niel asked, his voice laced with concern, his eyes searching.
Lyrian's eyes locked onto his, filled with a deep affection.
"I'm just looking out for you, Niel," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Niel's gaze narrowed, his expression guarded.
"Well, don't. I need to find those answers myself."
Lyrian's expression turned somber, her eyes clouding.
"I wish I could help, but...be careful, Niel. Don't repeat your father's mistake."
Niel's jaw clenched, his fists tightening.
"They took everything from us. I need to know why and who's responsible. And I need to find him."
Lyrian's eyes filled with a deep sadness, her voice cracking.
"Niel, sometimes the truth is harder to bear than the lie."
Niel's resolute gaze softened, his eyes flashing with vulnerability.
He hugged Lyrian tightly, a rare display of emotion.
"Thank you for everything," he whispered.
As he pulled away, his eyes flashed with surprise.
He had shown emotion.
Quickly, his mask slipped back into place.
"You're welcome, nephew," Lyrian said, her voice laced with a hint of sorrow.
But as he vanished, his fleeting voice whispered:
"I'm not your nephew."

She shook her head, a mixture of confusion and sorrow swirling within.
Their complicated past lingered, unspoken.
