Chapter 13: A Glimpse of Hell
The cityscape unfolded before Alawis, a mix of dark grandeur and eerie beauty. Towering buildings pierced the grey sky, their peaks shrouded in a haze of black and grey particles. Demons roamed the streets, their forms silhouetted against the moon-like sun's pale glow.
Valtira pointed to a majestic tower. "That's where you'll work."
Alawis's gaze followed her finger.
"And your apartment is in that one," Valtira said, indicating another tower.
Below them, the Underworld stirred, its darkness palpable.
Alawis absorbed every detail, her mind racing.
Valtira let out an exaggerated sigh. "Why don't we rest?"
She sat on the edge of the mountain rock, dangling her feet.
Alawis hesitated. "Is it safe?"
Valtira laughed. "What's the worst that can happen?"
Alawis's voice was laced with concern. "I can die."
Valtira's expression turned serious. "You're in Hell, Alawis."
Recalling her surroundings, Alawis decided to join Valtira, though she chose to sit with her feet firmly on the rock.
Valtira grinned. "Don't worry, even if you fall, I can catch you before you hit the ground. I can vanish, remember?"
Alawis's cheeks flushed. "Sorry, I was just..."
Valtira's smile softened. "You're right, even if you fall, you won't die, but you will feel pain."
Alawis ." Wait what.
