I had been pacing outside Selena's door for what felt like hours. My patience wasn't the best to begin with, but tonight, something felt... off.
Austin had asked me to stand guard. Simple enough, right? Except now, standing here in the dim hallway, my instincts screamed at me. I strained my ears, listening for any sound from behind the door. A heartbeat, a soft breath, even the faintest sound of movement. Nothing. Just silence.
At first, I convinced myself she was asleep. But even then, there should've been something—a snore, a cough, anything. I was uncomfortable. I couldn't shake the uneasy feeling I was getting anymore, so I pushed the door open, its hinges creaking as the moonlight from the window hit my face.
Empty.
The bed was untouched, the covers still perfectly laid out. Selena wasn't there.
