Harry Kim are checking his PAD in the meetingroom while reporting "The probe is stuck in a layer of liquid helium and methane about ten thousand kilometers beneath the outer atmosphere. It's not responding to commands."
The Captain glance at Tuvok before looking back at Harry "Any good news?" and Seven pipe in
"It's still intact. It can be repaired." and Chakotay glance back at her
"If we can get it out of there. B'Elanna, is there any possibility of transporting it out?"
She shake her head "No, not in that kind of atmosphere. We would need to get closer than Voyager can handle."
"Well, If we cant transport it out, we just need to go in and get it." Tom say with a smile and Tovok raise a eyebrown
"Perhaps you weren't paying attention when the alien ship imploded?" and Tom snort
"We wont be going in that kind of ship, Tuvok. We will be going in our new shuttlecraft." and Harry snort
"Here we go again..." before Tom continue
"Let's face it, Class 2 shuttles don't cut it in the Delta Quadrant. We needed something bigger and better since we have here. It's time we built it."
Chakotay shake his head "We don't have the time or materials to spare to design a shuttle, Tom."
Janeway frown before looking over at me where I am tapping away at a PAD "What about Serenity? We might not need to build a new craft."
I check the data again before shaking my head "Sorry, Captain. I have been running the calculations...her hull geometry is all wrong to handle that kind of pressure, even if we add the same shielding the probe have. It would be faster to build a whole new ship than trying to modify her for the task."
Tom grin and step away from the table to the screen on the wall "And I have already gotten started. I give you...the Delta Flyer. Ultra aero dynamic contours, retractable nacelles, para-metallic hull plating, Unimatrix shielding based on your brilliant design Tuvok for the multi-spacial probe and Borg inspired weaponry. Add sublight and power generation technology from Serenity."
Seven raise a eyebrown "The design is...adequate."
As the rest of the group keep giving suggestions I can see they start to win Chakotay and the Captain over. Building a ship from scratch..this will be fun!
I glance over at B'Elanna throwing out suggestions as well. Looks like the inclusion of a holoshrink nipped her little self destructive episode in the bud.
Good.
B'Elanna nod at the end of the meeting "Looks good so far, but we need to run simulations before we we start building. I'm heading to the holodeck to run some simulations. How about we meet there in thirty minutes to hammer out the rest of the design?" she ask before the meeting break up.
There is work to be done.
The build itself was harsh. I was doing 18 hour shifts on the thing for a week with most of the engineering staff. Seven worked around the clock, only stopping to eat.
At this point we where the experts on the power and sublight propulsion systems so we worked on that department.
As we get word the malon shuttle are taking of I slap the service hatch in the engine room closed "Ready to launch. Fly safe." before climbing out to watch the brand new Delta Flier take off with Tom, B'Elanna, Seven and Harry on board.
Hopefully they will do as well as in OT.
I slowly start to smile as I see the ship accelerate away from Voyager.
No...I know they will do better.
AN// Personally I though 'Drone' was a decent episode from a story telling standpoint, but it simply have to many plotholes to include. The 'holographic beings invading' will also be cut for being kind of stupid. Only way that would work would be 'Q be trolling'.
