I was working on repairing a microfracture in a Jefferies tube while beating myself up for missing the ferengi setting themselves up at gods at a low tech pilot and the damn wormhole. At the time I was in sickbay knocked out while my skeleton was being reinforced with about four kilos of duranium alloy.
While it was done with nanites guided by the ship computer it wouldn't exactly had been painless as the mesh would be going all through the bones and not just at the surface. So the doctor put me under for the days it took to do.
By the time I woke back up the crew was depressed for missing a chance to get home.
At this point i'm starting to become sure something is fucking with me because there is no way my timing is that bad.
Its been over a month since then but I'm still sodding annoyed over it. I doubt my success to get them to simply grab the ferengi and get out, but it would have been nice to be able to try! Sure it would destabilize the society but the damage would be minimal in the long run.
Thats when the ship start shaking and I quickly slam the hatches in the tube closed to create a airpocket before I pass out.
I dont know how much time have passed when I wake back up to find my combadge beeping at me so I tap it "Hiver here."
The captains voice sound through it "Mr Hiver, meet us in transporter room 2. Wear clothing fitting for 1996. Leave your extra limbs behind if you would."
My first reaction is 'Balls to that' but instead I answer "On my way captain."
A short detour to my cabin and some replicator time later I'm on my way to transport room 2 wearing a pair of jeans, a oversized t-shirt and a leather jacket. Mechadendrites wrapped around my waist, hidden from view.
The hell I leave half my arms behind.
"May I ask what's going on?" is the first thing I ask as I enter the transporter room and I quickly get a quick explanation.
We where attacked by the federation Timeship Aeon and pulled back in time and to Earth. Now they have detected a high tech signature in Los Angeles and now we need to go find it.
I simply give them a flat look. Even dressed in period clothing they still look like aliens, nevermind that they have actually decided to take Tuvok down.
But then again it 'is' Los Angeles so they should fit right in.
"Ok, let me get this right...we are going to go down there to find the timeship or whatever you have detected." and I get a nod from Janeway
"Correct. We need you as a guide. While Tom have studied this timeperiod, you have lived it and one expert is better than two." and I just snort
"Ok, a couple of things.
One, Tom is as much as a expert on 20th century that I am at warp mechanics.
Two, sorry Tuvok, but bringing a non human down is just begging for trouble. The rest of you going is bad enough. My recommendation is that if you really dont want to be discovered is to send me solo. At least I fit in.
Three, You are had seriously not planned on taking the transporter down, did you?"
Janeway smiles "I know you are hesitant about Transporters but they are perfectly safe during normal conditions. As for Tuvok.." and here she glance back at him "You really think the disguise isn't enough?" and I quickly nod
"We would be better of with Harry." and she actually order a change in team members before containing
"I'm not sending you down alone. Not only is it to dangerous, its also against starfleet regulations concerning away teams."
I slowly nod "Very well, but I am not using that transporter. As you said that it's reasonably safe during normal operations, this is not normal operations. Not only did we just go through a temporal rift, we where under weapons fire not a hour ago."
The crewman manning the transporter look up "Diagnostics show its safe." and I just give him a flat look.
"Tuvix." before turning to the Captain "If you are insistent on using that infernal device, at least use one of the ones on a shuttle instead. I'll accept using one of those if its one at a time and I don't go first."
Luckily she accept that argument and we head down to the shuttle bay instead where I ask to be armed with a phaser. This causes another argument that there is no reason for me to be armed and that I'm not checked out on it anyway.
I end the argument by first asking Tom to unlock the shuttle weapon locked before taking a type two phaser and doing the classic 'disassemble and put back together' trick before doing a quick power and settings check before commenting that not everyone spend their time on the holodeck for entertainment.
Seriously, I looked up the starfleet certification program for type 2 phasers during my first month on the ship. Its a horrible weapon, but if its the only one I have access to...
The 'you don't need to be armed' I countered with 'You want a expert, I am the expert. If you are not going to listen to the expert, why ask for one' argument.
In the end I think they just gave up so we could get going when it was clear I wouldn't budge on the issue.
The transporting itself is not something I enjoy. Fucking creepy. Being back on Earth, even a Earth almost 30 years into my past was...not as good as I would have thought.
Its all so...primitive. Hell, even compared to my original time this place is primitive, never mind compared to my new home.
Still, the view on the Los Angeles ocean walk is rather enjoyable. Soooo many tiny bikinis!
The Captain order the party to be split in two (Noooo! Never do that!). Harry and Tom are to check along the shore line and I am to come with Janeway and Chakotay.
In time the readings lead is to a crazy homeless man which we then follow, watching him put up signs about the end of the world as Tom and Harry join up again only for us to get a message from the ship that we have been detected and Janeway order them to go to the radio telescope to remove any evidence.
Surprise, surprise, the main transporter is down so they use a shuttle to do a site to site transport.
As Tom and Harry split of from the main party we continue to follow the homeless man who end up being Captain Braxton of the Aeon. The timeship is in the hands of Sterling, the CEO of Chronowerx who have been using the technology to jumpstart the information age.
Janeway's first reaction is to break into the building and gather information. My first reaction is that its a bad idea. He is bound to have security there.
She consider my idea but decide that it's worth the risk so we go ahead with her plan. We bypass the outer security by beaming into his office and while they are fooling around by the computer, Janeway pecking away at the keys I hide behind a big plant next to the door.
Sure enough, less then five minutes into their work Sterling and a big gorilla come swaggering inside, holding Janeway and Chakotay hostage with a 29sth century phaser.
I bravely shoot them in the back with my phaser set on heavy stun.
After beaming them into the brig on Voyager we start looting the place. Or rather, I start looting the place while Janeway and Chakotay proceed to put up transporter enhancers around the timeship in the small hangar next to his lab/office.
Biggest find was the Doctors future portable emitter, but I also grabbed a 29th century tricorder and phaser along with a few other knicknacks. I made it a point to steal all his pens.
We beam back to the ship as soon as the timeship is gone from the hangar, just in time for a time rift to open and the timeship appear with Captain Baxton in charge to take us back to the time and place we left the last timestream at.
He also took the timeship as well as Sterling and his pet gorilla with him.
It wasn't until much later that night that I woke up with a 'Oh crap!' realization.
We forgot the original homeless Captain Baxton back on Earth. I can just hope that the other Baxton thought to pick him up...
AN// Seriously, this two part episode could have been a oneparter with no risk to the future if they had someone watch the door during their break in.
