Things are actually starting to look up. Things have been quiet lately, giving me mostly time to learn or tinker. The biggest things lately have been Harry Kim being kidnapped by amazons that want to suck his DNA, The Doctor going nuts and the Holodeck Seska trying to kill Tuvok and Paris.
I stayed largely out of the first two. I dont got the expertise to deal with any of them but when the hologram Seska captured Tuvok and Tom on the holodeck simulation of a mutiny on Voyager, I had pretty much had enough of this stupidity.
The doors of the holodeck had been rigged to blow if opened and the transporters where down(big surprise). While B'Elanna and Janeway fiddled around, changing things in the progam, to busy to listen to suggestions I had enough.
First I tried to access the EPS grid to reroute power from the deck, but the program kept stopping me from doing so. So instead I used some 20th century thinking.
I grabbed a phaser for a emergency locker before making my way up to the major power distributing node on the deck. Now shooting something like that is more unhealthy so instead I opened the hatch, set the phaser to overload and threw it in there before closing the hatch and legging it.
The explosion fragged the node, frying every power distribution relay on the entire deck and shutting everything but gravity down. Including the holodeck and Seskas program.
Janeway didn't really know what to make of this. On one hand I wrecked the powergrid but on the other hand I saved members of her crew.
I'm not a member of starfleet so she couldn't even promote me. In the end she doubled my weekly holodeck time to two hours and my next 'upgrade' would be on the house. Then she ordered me to help repair the damage I did.
At the very least I'm now invited to those senior staff meetings. It seem they can actually be taught.
Right now I kind of wish I wasn't in this meeting as they go on about 'We are in Borg space and we have named this corridor the north west passage'.
As Janeway start to go through the department heads to check what things can be done to get ready for The Borg I frown and lean back in my chair. With my mechadendrites spread fully to the side its actually not uncomfortable.
If I interfere here, we lose access to seven of nine. But if I don't, we increase the chances of me saying 'We are the Borg' sometime during the next month.
"Mr Hiver, any suggestions?" she ask when she come to me and I look up, slightly surprised to even be asked
I could tell them about kinetic weaponry. But if I butterfly this, we are very likely to loose out on Seven of Nine which might doom the ship in the long run.
If I do, I'm more likely to live in the short run.
I look up at her shake my head "No Captain. No ideas at this time. I have read up on The Borg but I only got access to the civilian files. If I had more information..."
She slowly nod "I'll give you access to the relevant files. We might need some of your crazy ideas to get out of this." before she close the meeting and everyone file out to start getting things ready.
Walking out of the meeting I have already decided to spend what freetime I have during the next few days to create a coilgun pistol. With room temperature super conductors and type 2 phaser energy cells laying around, its hardly a complex build.
Any Borg that try and assimilate me can say hello to my little friend first.
