Chapter 28 - Splattered blood

After a few minutes, Reed got up, and they proceeded to the pathway to the next room.

"From what I know, there are now three slimes, and three hidden pits, so we need to be careful, otherwise if one us falls, we could be in big trouble."

They entered the next room, but there was a small distance between them and the slimes, so they were not perceived by them.

"Alright, let me try to locate the traps from what I've heard, before we go in there." Reed gestured for them to stop. He then raised a small platform from the ground and jumped on it to gain a vantage point.

He spent approximately a minute up there, staring at various rocks and such, before jumping down.

"Alright, as far as I can tell, I have managed to find the locations of the pitfalls. First, look there, do you see the the platform where the slime is on?" He asked the rest.

"The first one should be right next to it on the right side, but I could be wrong, so be careful." They nodded.

"The second should be behind those two rocks, directly behind that one." He said, gesturing to two boulders behind a slime. "Don't use those as protection. As for the third..." He pointed to the last slime, sitting in the middle of the room.

"It should be in front of it to the left somewhere." He gestured to the vague area. "So don't attack it from there."

"Finally," He said, and all three of them turned to him, slightly puzzled. "This is only what I've heard about, that could be more traps, or they could be somewhere different. Be careful."

Tucker nodded, while John and Polter looked away.

"Polter, take Tucker and attack that one, me and Mr. Reed will distract the others. Is that all right?" John laid out a plan, and they all agreed.

Tucker and Polter started to move towards the closest slime, and John and Reed walked slightly behind them to the side, approaching the other ones.

Tucker shouted, and charged towards his target, which noticed him, and turned to face him. It began to move, but it was slow enough that Tucker managed to damage it and dodge before it could attack him, causing it to miss, and Polter came from the side and attacked it.

The commotion caused the other slimes to start moving too, so Reed and John started to rush towards their own targets.

Reed managed to slice into the slime before it could attack him, but John was too far away, and had to jump and roll to dodge the jet of water.

Reed quickly dealt with his opponent, and moved to assist John as the other two also finished their fight.

"You okay?" Reed asked John as he dealt the finishing blow, taking the slime by surprise. "I'm fine." He replied. "Just a little bruise. got it while dodging the water." He shook his arm. "It'll be gone soon enough."

Reed nodded, and turned to the approaching duo. "No problems on your end?" He asked. "Easy fight." Tucker seemed a little proud of himself.

"Are we done?" John asked.

"Give me minute, I need to draw a map." Reed said, as he moved to a patch of dirt, and pulled out a knife.

He started to draw the map of the first floor into the dirt, followed by a map of the second, complete with terrain formation, and enemy count.

"Now to confirm." He moved over to the trap locations one by one, using rocks to confirm the positioning of the pits.

"Umhmm..." He walked over to the dirt map, and made a few small adjustments, adding the trap locations to them.

"This look good to you?" He asked the three that were standing behind him.

They looked over the drawing for a few moments, comparing it to their path.

"Seems about right." Tucker said.

Reed looked at the map for a few more moments, before getting up.

"Well then, back to the surface." He stretched, as they started to walk towards the exit.

Reed's relaxed expression disappeared, and his eyes grew cold as he summoned his guns and took aim.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

Three loud gunshots echoed off the cave walls, and two bodies, one with a shattered skull, then other completely headless, fell to the ground.

Somehow, Polter had managed to evade the bullet by rolling to the side the moment before Reed had fired.

BOOM!

BOOM!

That didn't save him, as two more shots punched through his body and slammed into the ground.

He was still alive, and looked at Reed as he approached. His eyes glanced at his weapons and widened in recognition.

His right shoulder was no longer attached to his body, and there was hole in his chest.

BOOM!

Reed put a bullet in the ground, right where his head was previously, now it was scattered about.

"Rest in peace." Reed spoke aloud, as a white stream left Polter's body and formed a cube a metre above it.

Reed knew what it was, he had known about it for a while.

...

"What happens when I kill a player?" Reed had asked Record, after a training session.

"They die." Record had replied.

"Obviously, but do I gain anything from it?"

"Their space."

"Space?"

"Their storage space, or it's contents."

"How so?"

"When a player is killed by another player, and only by another player, a cube will form above the dead players corpse that can only be seen by other players. The cube will last for 48 hours before vanishing from this world."

Record paused.

"If you touch the cube, you will be offered two choices, open, and destroy."

"If you choose to open the cube, you will gain access to of the contents of the dead players storage space, and you will have ten minutes to take whatever you want from it. After ten minutes, the cube and all of it's contents will disappear from this world."

"On the other hand, If you choose to destroy the cube, you will gain a part of the spatial power from it, allowing you it increase the size of your own storage space."

Reed had listened with great attention, after all, this would affect how he would treat other players in the future.
