Chapter 26 - The new first floor.

"We should tread carefully, I've heard that there are traps here now." John stood in front of the group, his hand on the hilt of his sword.

"Let me lead, I have some information about the traps." Reed offered to lead, which made John blink in surprise, before gesturing to Reed to take his position. "Sure, go ahead." He said, relieved that he wouldn't fall into a trap by accident.

"Thank you." Reed walked forward, and drew one of his swords while continuing down the path. "From what I've gathered, there are only two traps on the first floor, and three more on the second, I don't know about the third or fourth floors, so those will be left for later."

"Hmm." John let out a hum, but didn't make any other noise.

Three seconds after he finished speaking, he stopped, 7 metres away from a turn in the path.

"And the first one..." He bent down and examined the floor while slowly moving forwards. "Is... Here!!" He used his blade to poke into the ground, before lifting it slightly, causing all the surrounding rock to collapse inwards, revealing a deep pit with 4 sharp pillars.

"Damn!" Tucker was stunned, and slightly frightened, he hadn't noticed anything off about the ground where the pit was, and that made him feel grateful that Reed was here.

"Damn indeed." Reed stared the trap that he had set. "You don't want to fall down there, it's almost sure to hit something, and if a part of your body gets stuck..." He shook his head while Tucker winced, imagining that scenario. Reed was then straightening up while picking up a sizable rock from the corner of the pit.

He then tossed the rock to the other side of the pit, where it landed with a thumping sound.

He jumped across the metre wide pit, before turning back and looking at the others. "Come on! Let's keep going."

John and Polter were the first across the pit, while Tucker seemed a little uncomfortable, he did not hesitate to leap across, he did take another look into the pit after jumping across.

"Ugh!" He groaned, trying to get the image of a skewered body out of his mind.

"Are you okay?" Reed asked, his voice that of genuine concern. "You don't have any illness, do you?" "I'm fine, let's keep going." Tucker gave his head a good shake.

"If you say so." Reed started to walk forwards, with the trio following close behind him.

After a few more twists and turns, they finally encountered their first enemies.

"Finally! Let me do it!" Tucker drew out his sword, and started to march forwards, but was stopped by Reed pulling him backwards. "Careful!" Tucker stumbled, but didn't fall. "Hey!"

"What's wrong?" John asked, his sword at the ready.

Reed did not give them a response, instead, he squinted, trying to look for something, which he found.

"The second trap." He announced, which made the other three look around to try to see the trap. "I don't see it." Tucker said with a hint of sharpness in his voice. "Hmm." A hum of agreement came from Polter, while John did not make any noise.

"It's not on the ground." Reed moved forwards, than squatted. "Do you see it now?" He pointed into the air. "It's a string trap." Where he was pointing, was a thin brown wire.

"A trip wire?" John murmured, which made Reed perk up. "Trip wire... like a wire that causes people to trip?" He questioned John, who went silent for a moment, before relaxing. "Yes, like that." He nodded.

Polter glanced at the both of them.

Reed scratched his chin. "That does sound better than 'String trap'. Hmph!" He let a hum in agreement. "I'll use that instead of 'String trap' from now on, you don't mind, right?" He asked John, who just shrugged.

"Go ahead, it's just a name, I don't own it." John seemed slightly relaxed at the moment, relieved even.

'He thinks that his cover as a player is safe, since he thinks that I am not one of them. Reed surmised in his thoughts, while he looked around for a rock.

He found a big one, but it was on the other side.

"Okay, just step over the wire, be careful not to touch it in the slightest, otherwise, you might just die." He warned the trio, before stepping over the wire.

Slowly, the other three also made their way over to him, and once they were a few metres away, Reed chucked the rock he had found at the wire.

As soon as the wire was pressed down, a huge rock fell from the ceiling, smashing into the ground below.

Tucker let out a whistle. "That could have been bad." He exhaled loudly. "Man I'm glad you're here." He said to Reed. "Otherwise, we would have been either turned to kebab or mush."

"The rock would just smash your skull in. It wouldn't turn you to mush." Reed said with a smile, and Tucker shuddered. "Whatever, can I go kill those goblins now?" He raised his sword.

"Wait." John stopped him, which made Tucker sigh. "We don't know how many there are." Then he turned to Reed. "Do you know anything about that?" Reed nodded. "They told me that there are only 6 goblins on the floor now."

"Alright! Time to kill some monsters!" Tucker rushed forwards, with John following behind him, determined not to let him get hurt, while Polter and Reed followed behind while walking.

Reed turned to Polter. "So, you don't like to talk?" He asked him, which made Polter look at him in silence, without saying a word.

Seeing this, Reed turned away. "Okay, okay, I get it. You don't want to talk. It's completely fine." With that done, they walked forwards, with the sounds of the fighting up front accompanying their steps.

By the time they reached the other two, they had already dealt with the goblins.

"Well then, shall we proceed?" Reed asked John. "Or do you need a rest?" He glanced at Tucker, who was cleaning his sword.

"Let keep going." John said and turned towards the gate.
