Chapter 5 - Identity

After accompanying Felix and Rosalee to their home, Evan returned to his own, which was a street away from theirs.

As night fell on the planet, the pale yellowish sky above faded into shades of red and black. If one raised their head, they would see five massive moons hanging in the sky, as if they would fall at any time.

Rosalee was momentarily stunned as she stared at this scene that looked like the end of the world. It was not until now that she truly felt like she had entered a new world.

A world where she was not a wealthy retired woman but a poor little girl struggling to survive with a brother who only had a beautiful face.

Felix had opened the door and was about to enter when he noticed that his little sister was not beside him. Glancing back, he saw her foolishly staring up at the sky with tears in her eyes.

"Little fool, what happened?" He cautiously asked, wondering if she had regained her memories after seeing their house.

Rosalee sadly moved her gaze away from the sky, "Nothing, Brother." She gave a weak smile and shook her head, hiding her sadness and disappointment with her new life.

Felix was perplexed by her strange mood swings, as she had always acted like a little devil who only knew how to cause havoc. Her expressions looked as though she had experienced a lifetime of hardship and sufferings.

He could never figure out what was going on in her little head.

He opened the door, allowing her to enter before following behind. Afraid that she would take advantage of her amnesia and enter his room, he hurriedly led her to the room on the left.

"This is your room," he announced.

He then took an object resembling a wristband from his pocket and handed it to her, saying, "Your personal ID band."

Rosales held the tiny yellow wristband and examined it, wondering how it operated. She noticed several buttons on the wristband and randomly pressed one, causing a holographic screen to appear in front of her.

She was amazed by this futuristic technology.

Felix watched her play with her identity band and hesitated to say something. Surely she didn't forget to use this device, right?

"Brother, this is so cool! Can you teach me how to use this thing?" Rosalee's eyes were bright, as if she had discovered an interesting toy.

Felix was completely speechless.

This little devil had apparently lost her common sense as well.

Rosalee spent an hour learning how to use the ID band from her pretty brother before going to bed.

She leisurely laid on the bed with her legs swinging behind her and surfed through the interstellar network with gusto.

According to her brother, interstellar citizens in planets above grade F could access the star network for a certain fee, whereas citizens in planets B and above could do so for free.

Rosalee thought this was unfair, especially when she learned that citizens below grade B had limited access to informations about certain things.

Other than the entertainment industry and the military, which provided services to all citizens above grade F, other fields were not as generous.

The interstellar hierarchy system, in her opinion, must have been created by a group of powerful and wealthy individuals who wanted to enjoy all the resources and opportunities for themselves.

She was curious about the history of the interstellar Age and whether her mother planet existed in this world.

After a lengthy search of 2 hours, she eventually found a short article related to the interstellar mother planet, and she was able to get an idea of how the interstellar era began after stumbling upon a discussion post from 256 years ago.

According to the article she discovered, humans first lived on a planet called Blue Star before leaving due to a series of natural disasters and an outbreak of an infectious disease from the sea that threatened to destroy the whole ecosystem.

The only option left to the surviving humans was to desperately escape their mother planet and seek a new home in the unknown universe.

However, based on the serious discussion of the interstellar netizens from the old posts, the virus that annihilated 80% of life on Blue star was cultivated in a labarotry when it accidentally got leaked after an earthquake destroyed the carrier.

Rosalee was not sure what to believe, but that did not stop her from learning the rest of the story.

Humans spent 125 years exploring the vast universe before finding a suitable planet to settle on. The planet was named Elysium, and it served as the foundation for humanity's ambition to colonize the universe.

As technology and development advanced rapidly, humans discovered and colonized dozens of habitable planets.

That was, until they encountered creatures other than themselves.

Zergs, alien plants, space beasts, and primitive alien life forms had started to progressively spread around them, threatening their way of life.

To fight them and protect their homes, humans began to undergo genetic modifications that granted them inhuman strength and supernatural abilities.

Rosalee looked up the name of her mother planet and, as expected, there was none.

She had suspected that this was a parallel universe rather than the one she was familiar with, so she was not disappointed by the outcome.

She waved her hand in the air, and the blue screen in front of her changed to show her current information.

Rosalee abruptly sat up. She ignored the other details and carefully zoomed in on the 'asset' before bringing her face forward, almost passing through the screen to read the word.

After confirming that she had not misread the words and that she did, in fact, own a residential house, she screamed in shock.

"I have a house? Fuck, I have a house!"

She excitedly moved her fingers to the screen to find the location of her new home when she heard a rapid knock on the door, followed by an anxious voice.

"Rosie, are you okay?!"

Rosalee hurriedly climbed down the bed and went to open the door, smiling with embarrassedment. "Brother Felix, what happened."

She felt embarrassed for losing her cool in front of her new brother.

Felix's panic faded when he saw his well-dressed sister. He thought something had happened after hearing her scream, but it turns out he was worried for no reason.

He rubbed his forehead and asked irritably, "What are you screaming about at this late hour?" He poked her in the forehead and continued to ask, "Who are you pretending to be, huh? A ghost?"

"Sorry, brother," Rosalee said clumsily, leaning her head back to avoid his finger. "I'll remember to lower my voice next time."

Felix was surprised by her abrupt change in obedience. Because, for all he knew, his younger sister was the type of person who would drink expired nutrient solutions rather than apologize to him.

It seemed like she had never apologized to him with such sincerity.

Can memory loss affect a person's personality?
