Chapter 29 - Return

Kazaris was imprisoned by the angels in the land of angels, but with Alorin's help, he managed to escape. What was strange for Kazaris was that Alorin couldn't fly, and Kazaris wasn't very good at navigating on the ground.

Kazaris climbed up a tall tree to survey the surroundings.

Kazaris: "I can't feel others' mana. I feel like all my magical abilities are locked."

Kazaris was looking around when he spotted a few villagers.

Alorin was looking up, thinking, "I wish I could go up and see what Kazaris is doing."

Suddenly, Kazaris jumped down and landed on Alorin.

Kazaris, seeing that he had flattened Alorin, moved aside and said, "If I could, I would've landed somewhere else."

Alorin got up, gave a thumbs up, and smiled, "It's okay, I'm fine."

Kazaris: "Well, that's good. I need your help. You just need to play along a bit."

Alorin, surprised, said, "Play along?"

Kazaris: "Yeah, you need to pretend that we are brothers and that we're lost."

Alorin, curious, said, "But we have no relation to each other."

Kazaris sighed, put his hand on his forehead, and said, "You don't have to say anything. Just stay quiet and follow me."

Kazaris, along with Alorin, headed towards the village. A villager saw them and approached.

Villager: "You two don't seem to be from around here. Are you lost?"

Kazaris: "My name is Karis, and my brother's name is Alin. My brother and I want to go to the School of Magic, but we've lost our way and don't know how to get there."

The villager carefully looked at Kazaris and Alorin and thought, "Both of their eyes are yellow, but their colors are exactly the opposite of each other. They seem suspicious."

Kazaris thought, "It looks like he's getting suspicious of us. I need to gain his trust."

The villager thought for a moment and said, "I feel like I've seen you somewhere before. What was the name? Um..."

Alorin smiled and said, "You mean Kazaris?"

Kazaris's eyes widened in surprise as he looked at Alorin and thought, "Stupid angel, you're ruining my plan!"

Villager: "Yeah, that's it! The name was Kazaris!"

Alorin smiled and said, "Yeah, the golden-eyed demon."

Kazaris put his hand on his forehead, thinking about how to fix everything.

The villager thought for a moment and said, "But that's impossible. Last week, the people in the capital executed Kazaris."

Alorin, shocked, smiled and said, "E-executed him...?"

Another villager came up to the first one and said, "Hey, Kalita, what's the problem with these two?"

Kalita looked at the other villager and said, "Apparently, they're lost and want to go to the School of Magic."

The other villager looked closely at Kazaris and said, "You look very handsome. Have I seen you somewhere before?"

Alorin smiled proudly and said, "What do you mean? Of course not. Karis is my brother, and we've traveled a long way to get here."

Kalita laughed and said, "You're exactly the opposite of your brother, Alin."

Alorin thought, "Huh? I feel like there's a big contradiction between me and Kazaris."

Kalita took the other villager's hand and led him away to talk.

Kalita: "Arius, don't you think those two are too suspicious?"

Arius: "Yeah, but I feel like we can trust them."

Kalita: "What if the one with brown hair really is Kazaris?"

Arius thought and smirked, saying, "I know, but think about it. If we hand Kazaris over to the guards, we'll get a huge reward."

Kazaris: "So you want to turn me in for money, right?"

Kalita and Arius were shocked to see Kazaris, who was glaring at them.

Kalita, flustered, said, "Sorry, it's all my friend's fault. He only thinks about money."

Arius angrily retorted, "How dare you betray your friend and bow down to this demon?!"

Suddenly, Kazaris knelt down before Kalita and Arius.

Kalita, surprised, looked at Kazaris and said, "Are you sure he's Kazaris?"

Arius crossed his arms and frowned, "I don't know. I feel like we made a mistake."

Kazaris: "If you want, you can sell me to the guards, but in exchange, I have only one request."

Arius, still frowning, said, "You've really brought shame to all demons."

Alorin stepped next to Kazaris and said, "Sorry for lying to you. Someone's life is in danger, and Kazaris lost his way, so..."

Kazaris looked at Alorin and thought, "Why does he care about me so much? We're enemies, but why...?"

Kalita, moved by Alorin's words, started to tear up and said, "You really have a kind heart, Alin!"

Alorin, surprised, said, "Huh? It's natural, I'm an angel."

Arius looked at Alorin in astonishment and said, "An angel? Which angel helps a demon?!"

Kazaris glared at the others and thought, "I'll deal with them later. Right now, Karil's life is the most important."

Kazaris stood up and, frowning, said, "Sorry, but I don't have much time. I need to return to my brother soon."

Kalita smiled and said, "Leave it to me. I'll accompany you to the city with my cart."

Kalita transported Kazaris and Alorin to the city with her cart. Kazaris and Alorin got out, and Alorin looked at Kalita, smiling, and said, "Thank you for bringing us here. Hope to see you again."

Kalita smiled at Kazaris and said, "I didn't do much. I hope your brother gets better soon, Kazaris."

Kazaris, slightly embarrassed, said, "Th-thank you."

Kalita bid farewell to Kazaris and Alorin and left.

Kazaris was staring at the street when Alorin placed his hand on Kazaris's shoulder and smiled, saying, "You want to see Kalita and Arius again, don't you?"

Kazaris, flustered, frowned and said, "Of course not, I have to go now!"

Alorin smiled and thought, "Kazaris is a demon, but I'm sure he has a lot of feelings."

Kazaris was walking through the city to go to Karil, and Alorin was following him. Kazaris stopped, looked at Alorin, and frowned, saying, "Why are you following me? You're free to go anywhere you want now."

Alorin smiled and said, "I'm curious about your brother. I want to see him up close."

Kazaris: "I see..."

Kazaris thought, "This isn't good. If he keeps following me, I'll never be able to settle things with him."

Mellory saw Kazaris in the city square and quickly ran towards him, saying, "Kazaris, I'm glad you're back!"

Kazaris, surprised and worried, said, "Why are you here?! Did something happen to Karil?!"

Mellory smiled and said, "Karil is fine. Athiris took him to make sure no one would harm him."

Kazaris, shocked, suddenly grabbed Mellory's shoulders and said, "Aithiris took Karil?! Why did you let him do that?!"

Mellory: "Nisus wanted to poison Karil with a drug. Athiris found out and fled with Karil. He doesn't want to harm Karil; he wants to protect him!"

Kazaris released Mellory and said, "I see, so that's the reason."

Mellory looked at Alorin and said, "And who are you?"
