Damon had just seen the captain deal with a wolf like beast and he made it seem so easy that awed everybody that were watching the fight in hiding.
Which made Damon wish if he would ever be so strong like the captain. Then Damon saw the captain head over to the hammer user and said some words and then he swiftly killed the hammer user.
Seeing the captain act so mysteriously, made a shiver to run down Damon's spine. The actions of the captain, how he acted and the way he swiftly killed the hammer user, closely resembled the way he was killed by the mysterious man at Cliffson's industries.
Then Damon saw the captain about to head off but all of a sudden, he halted his steps and turned around then he scanned the crowd and finally his eyes landed on him.
Tha captain was making his way to Damon's side slowly while saying a few words.
"You… you should have been dead." The captain said.
Damon was shocked by the Captain's statement. What did he mean by he should have been dead? Did he somehow know that Damon didn't belong to this body?
{Calm down Damon, just calm yourself down and reply him because he is clearly getting impatient waiting for your answer.}
'What the hell do you want me to answer him?' Damon should in his head.
{I don't know, just make something up.}
Damon just breathed calmly and looked towards the captain.
"What do you mean I should be dead? Were you planning on killing me?" Damon asked slyly looking at the captain straight in his eyes.
"Wow! You are really brave to talk to me like that." The captain said as he moved his hand which caused Damon to move back a bit worried he might be killed just like the hammer user.
But the captain simply just sheathed his blade and looked at him.
"Very funny Kyle." The captain said.
'Kyle again? How does the captain know the original owner of this body?' Damon thought.
"Don't you remember? You had told me you were tired of being weak and this whole life so you decided to go commit suicide far away from here so you won't be stopped." The captain said.
"I had tried to stop you but you didn't heed my countless advice. So I thought you had gone through the suicide already not until I saw you again here hale and hearty."
Now Damon understood what the captain meant by his earlier statement.
"So why didn't you go through with it again? Don't get me wrong, I am happy that you are hale and hearty but I'm wondering what changed your mind."
"Yeah, I wanted to commit suicide initially and I was actually on the verge of taking the poisonous concoction but it felt like I heard a whisper telling me it wasn't time for me to go yet."
"And then, I fell unconscious. When I woke up, I saw that I had dropped the bottle of poison and I didn't even bother with it again because I had lost the will to go through the suicide." Damon lied.
Damon knew that it would be hard for the captain to believe as he was looking at him strangely. But Damon knew that the best lie was those mixed in with a bit of the truth.
"Well your story has a bit of a pothole but I will let it slide for now." The captain said.
"Alright, I will get going now. I initially wanted to get some food before the town was attacked again." Damon said as he was about to leave.
"Wait!" The captain called out and Damon stopped and turned to look at the captain.
"Do you have money?"
"Yes, I have two bronze coins that was given to me out of kindness by Berg."
The captain just shook his head. "You see, I had told you what to do to earn a lot of money but you refused to. Anyway, it's your call, the offer still stands."
This piqued Damon's interest as he stopped the already leaving captain.
"Hold on, what offer?" Damon asked.
"Huh?" The captain said turning around to look at Damon.
"Don't you remember the offer I had given to you now. Did you lose your memories when you fell unconscious?"
Damon chuckled nervously as he scratched his head.
"Yeah, something like that. I think I had hit my head pretty badly when I fell unconscious so some things have been scrambled."
The captain raised an eyebrow of suspicion looking at Damon.
"Do I look like a fool? Do you think you can lie to me like that and I wouldn't figure it out?" The captain just sighed.
"Anyway, it's your call. If you want to tell me the truth or not. And about the offer, I had offered you a chance to join our sect."
'Huh? What's a sect?' Damon thought confused.
{A sect is a type of organization for warriors of this world.}
'Ohh.' Damon thought.
"So what's your decision now? Do you plan to join our sect and become a powerful warrior that won't be unmatched?" The captain asked.
Damon thought about it a little bit more as he weighed all his options.
'If I train harder, I can become strong like the captain, maybe stronger than him.'
'And when I have grown strong enough, I can find my way back to Earth to take revenge from that strange man.' Damon smirked.
"How will I earn money from this?" Damon asked.
"Well, if you kill beasts, you will be rewarded handsomely by the sect leaders. Depends on the type of beast you kill and their numbers. If you kill a beast and take their core to them, you will be rewarded handsomely."
"Like this wolf beast I killed now, can earn me about 5 silvers."
"Five silvers?" Damon asked.
It wasn't like Damon was poor in his time on Earth after joining Cliffson's industries, in fact, he had millions of dollars. But coming to this new world where he was told that silver coins were quite rare, he was shocked.
'System, how many coins makes up a gold coin?'
{10 bronze coins makes up 1 silver coin. While 10 silver coins makes up 1 Gold coin.}
'So, if he takes that beast's core, he will be given half a gold coin? Now that's a lot.'
"So what's your answer going to be?" The captain asked already getting impatient.
Damon lo
oked up at the captain then he smiled.
"I accept." Damon said.
"Great, let's head off to the sect base."
