Chapter 7 - Sect Base

After the captain had accused Damon of being dead, he then explained that the body owner said he wanted to commit suicide initially and now, he was standing in front of him hence the earlier statement.

And then the captain informed Damon of an offer to join the sect; a type of warrior group that come together to fight against the beasts that invade the town.

On the way there, Damon and the captain didn't say anything. The walk from the town to the base was supposed to take at least 30 minutes.

"So I assume I would be trained when I get accepted into the sect right?" Damon asked.

"Yes. Did you expect we send a newbie that doesn't know how to fight off to get killed?" The captain chuckled.

"You know I said I had scrambled my head pretty bad," Damon said. "I was being serious, I don't even remember some people neither do I know their name."

"So am supposing you don't remember me right?" The captain asked.

To which Damon nodded nervously.

"Anyway, to refresh your brain, Kyle I'm your brother-in-law." The captain said.

And to which Damon halted his steps abruptly.

"Brother… brother-in-law? How are you my brother-in-law?"

The captain turned around to look at Kyle.

"How does one become someone's brother-in-law?"

"You fool, you were married to my sister." The captain said.

"Married?" Kyle asked.

(Author's note: it is getting confusing with the other characters calling Damon; Kyle. So I have decided to let him adpat to this new name and world.)

"Yes, you were married to my sister before she died by those filthy beats and that's why I decided to join the sect." The captain said.

"Great. Even this original owner had a wife while I had none, not even a girlfriend." Kyle mumbled under his breath.

"I'm guessing if you forgot your wife, you must have forgotten me too. Anyway, my name is Brandon. I hope that can jolt your memories back." Brandon said as he was already on the move again.

And soon, Kyle followed after with a lot on his mind.

'System, is there anyway I can be brought up to speed about this world?' Kyle thought.

{Negative. Most of what I know is general public knowledge.}

"But you knew Berg's name." Kyle complained.

{And that is a secret I'm not supposed to tell you about.}

After a few more minutes of walking, they were finally in front of the sect base but Kyle couldn't see any structure.

So Kyle was confused about the reason they stopped moving since he could only see rows and rows of trees.

"Where's the base?" Kyle asked.

"Right here." Brandon pointed in front of a tree then he walked forward and tapped the tree in different places as if he was inputting a code.

And then the trees parted widely revealing a huge gate in front of them. Then Brandon walked forward and pulled a coin out.

But it wasn't the currency coin, it was just a metallic coin that he put into a hole in the gate and then the gate started opening slowly.

"Cool right?" Brandon smiled as he took a step into the already opening gate and Kyle also followed suit.

"How did the sect have such an advanced technology compared to the town?" Kyle asked.

Brandon just shrugged. "Probably they trade with the other world or something."

"Other world?" Kyle asked as he was suddenly interested. After all, he would need to find his way back to Earth before he could think of taking revenge.

"Oops. I have said too much." Brandon said. "Since we are in the base, let's refrain from talking too much. And since you aren't a member yet, I cannot disclose any information to you."

Kyle wanted more information after all, he needed to get back to Earth one way or the other. Knowing that the sect had a way, Kyle was more than eager to join them.

Finally after leaving the gate, they walked into a very wide and large hall and they could see different people all with the same attire either conversing or standing off to the side meditating or training.

And looking up, Brandon could see stairs that led upstairs but he didn't see anybody taking the stairs.

"That stairs takes one to where the leaders of the sect stay and no one is allowed to go there unless they have a death wish or when they are called." Brandon explained seeing that Kyle had been focused on the stairs.

"C'mon, let's get you registered as a newbie." Brandon said walking off to one of the many rooms that was stationed on the side.

Then they opened the door and walked in heading to a desk stationed in the middle of the room with a man sitting on the chair.

"Hey Brandon! A new recruit?" The man asked.

"Yes, this is Kyle." Brandon replied.

"Great, let's start with the formalities then and he can join the training section." The man said with a smile as he gestured for Kyle to come forward.

Kyle walked forward with a stern look on his face then he sat opposite the man who had a feather and a paper in front of him. Then he took the feather and dipped it in a black liquid off to the side of the table then he started jotting some things while asking Kyle questions.

"How old?"

"22."

After a bunch of questions, Kyle was gestured off to the side where some equipment were placed.

He was told to do a few tests so they could record his score. He was told to punch a big drum like object to record his strength.

Which displayed his strength as 5 just like the system. Then he was told to run on something that moved the more he moved which reminded Kyle of a treadmill.

After that, his speed was recorded as 5 just like the system did. Then the man went b

ack to his seat with a huff of air.

"Well, he is quite weak. I don't know if he can last long."
