"Huh? Where am I?" Damon asked himself as he slowly opened his eyes to see an endless void of black around him.
"What happened?" Damon asked again and then the memories of his time in the office flooded his mind.
"The CEO, that mysterious man, the tech and a betrayal." Damon said remembering everything.
"Oh how I want to take revenge on that man for ending my life so abruptly. But what can I do?"
"That mysterious man was so strong and fast that I hadn't seen him move at all. Oh well, I guess I'm dead now." Damon closed his eyes but he heard a whisper.
"It's not your time yet." The whisper said.
"Huh?" Damon said as his eyes snapped open. "Who is there?"
Damon didn't get a response instead, his vision was suddenly flooded with white; a contrast to the black he was seeing in his vision.
And then, Damon started feeling his senses. The first to come was his vision as he could see a brown ceiling of some sorts and then his sense of feeling as he could feel the touch of the soft breeze on his face and the hearing came next.
As Damon could hear birds chirping outside. Slowly, Damon got up while trying to look around.
"Where am I? This doesn't look like Cliffson's industries."
Damon could see he was in a small cottage of some sorts that had only a small room. Based on what he was seeing from the inside, the room had twisted vines and moss-covered stones merge seamlessly for walls.
Curved, layered wooden shingles resemble the scales of a mythical dragon for the roof.
A plush, four-poster bed with curtains woven from starlight-infused fabric.
And a mirror with a frame that shimmers like the moon.
The cottage looked modest and small. Damon walked towards the mirror in the room and what he saw shocked him.
"That… that is not me!" Damon shouted as he pointed at the mirror.
"What… what is going on? How come I'm in a cottage and I'm not in my body? I need to find out what is going on." Damon said as he wanted to leave the room when his legs collided with something small that rolled around.
"Huh? What is that?" Damon asked as he bent down to pick the bottle he mistakenly kicked.
Sniffing the bottle, Damon was now sure of the contents in it earlier.
"This is poison! Why is there a bottle of poison here?" Damon asked.
{That is because the earlier host had committed suicide} a voice said which caused Damon to jump up in fright.
"Who… who is there? Show yourself." Damon shouted looking around the small room.
{Relax will you? You can't see me because I don't have a physical body.}
"Who are you?" Damon asked still twisting and turning his head around.
{I'm your system helper.}
"System helper?" Damon asked. He knew what a system was, having worked on a lot of technology at Cliffson's industries but what he didn't understand was what was going on.
First, he had been killed in Cliffson's industries and now he found himself in another person's body with a talking voice around him.
"What system?" Damon asked as he finally decided to settle down.
{This system.} The voice said and a glowing blue screen appeared in front of Damon with shimmering words on it.
{Status}
{Name: Damon Raymond}
{Level: 1}
{XP: 0/100}
{HP: 100/100}
{Strength: 5}
{Agility: 5}
{Intelligence: 50}
{Quests}
{Get your bearings (Rewards; 200 XP)}
{Reach level two (Rewards: 100 XP)}
"Woah! This is so awesome." Damon exclaimed as he kept messing with the system.
But then, Damon scanned the room taking in the sight of the room again. He went to lay on the simple bed that was placed at the corner of the small cottage.
A fireplace crackled, casting a warm glow on the earthen floor.
"Where am I?" Damon asked.
{You are in the village of Brindlemark, located in the heart of Eridoria. This village is known for its friendly inhabitants and lush surroundings but mind you, the village can be dangerous if you are not careful.}
Damon's stomach growled, reminding him of his hunger.
"What about food? What am I gonna eat?" Damon asked.
{The currency for this village is coins and you have to work to earn them and get yourself what you want to eat.}
Damon grumbled under his breath after hearing the system's words.
"So you are saying you can't help?" Damon asked again.
{Affirmative, you have to go out and work by yourself to earn coins.}
"Since you know so much about this village, do you mind telling me the lists of coins used here?"
{No problem, the types of coins used here are; Bronze: the lowest coin possible; it is a brown coloured metal with the village's symbol.
Silver: This is a somewhat whitish piece of metal with the village's symbol also. This silver coin is higher than Bronze and poor people here hardly get it.
The last one is Gold: This Gold coin is very rare among the common people in this village. Only the rulers or the wealthy merchants have this coin.}
"Hmm, so there are only three types of coins here with Bronze being the lowest and Gold being the highest right?"
{Affirmative. That is the currency used here.}
"Great, let's go find some work then." Damon said trying to get up but his feet was wobbly.
{Caution: your physical body is still adjusting to this new world so be careful with your actions.}
Damon didn't say anything, he just took a few steps around and did some simple exercises to get used to this new body. After he was done, it was time to head out of the cottage.
"With this system, I will make sure I take revenge against that mysterious man for killing me and I will also take revenge on that betrayal that betrayed the company." Damon promised as he opened the cottage's door to hear out into this new world.
Little did Damon know the dangers he was going to face in this new world.
