As if catching herself, she softened her tone. "By the way, congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Father said it's happening in a week. That must be exciting."

"Thank you," I replied cautiously, not wanting to reveal my shock.
Maya leaned forward, her expression turning sweetly manipulative. "I do have a small favor to ask, though. Since you'll be running Mary's Enterprise, would you mind if I used your boutique for my outfits and modeling shoots? It would mean so much to me."
Her sudden friendliness was alarming, but I saw an opportunity to play along. "Of course, Maya. You're always welcome, feel free."
She clasped her hands together with exaggerated gratitude. "Thank you! I'll make sure to recommend your boutique to all my friends. It's a win-win, really."
