The Chase 

Sam's Point of View

As we left the hospital, I couldn't shake the tension radiating from Bella. I had been watching her closely, noticing the subtle furrow in her brow, the way she avoided my gaze. I knew what was eating at her, her need to know the truth about her father's relationship with my family. 

But the truth could be dangerous, a poison that, once ingested, would spread uncontrollably. She was up to something with Jonathan, and though I wanted to stop her, I knew better than to try. Desperation was a powerful force. 

If she wanted to dive headfirst into the storm, then my role would be to anchor her. Giving her some power like handing over my mother's boutique was my way of supporting her, even if she didn't fully grasp the significance of my actions.  

As we arrived at the Asher estate and pulled up to my mansion, Jacob greeted us at the door, his usual composed demeanor slightly hesitant.
